Gentle Readers . . . and Maxwell,
When I write a TIP TUESDAY post with information about correct grammar and ways to improve your writing, some of you say, Oh, I'm guilty of that. It's all over my blog.
I feel bad when you write that in your comments. TIP TUESDAY is intended to help writers who want to publish their work. You should have fun with your blogs––use them as a creative outlet or as your therapy or to provide a learning experience.
I've mentioned a few times that I don't intend TIP TUESDAY as a criticism of your blogs. It's not even a criticism of writing you want to publish. It's information. That's all.
Incorrect grammar in a blog only bothers me if it causes confusion.
So should I continue TIP TUESDAY, or let it go?
Infinities of love,
Janie Junebug
P.S. Just want to mention that my son's friend and former roommate Nic was in Orlando at a club across the street from where the tragedy occurred. I'm grateful that Nic is okay, and I send my love and prayers to all who are suffering. We don't recover from some things. All we can do is carry on.
I like it, personally. I cringe when I make grammer mistakes, but I like the opportunity to learn and improve. So I vote to keep Tip Tuesday!
ReplyDeleteAnd thank you for sharing your expertise with us! :)
I make missteaks to!
DeleteNo, we don't ever recover from some things. Thank goodness Nic wasn't at the club across the street.
ReplyDeleteOn a lighthearted note, there are also those who keep toasting on Monday and Tuesday to.
Love ya!
To funny! I'm off.
DeleteHi Janie - glad your son's friends is ok - Orlando is just dreadful and so sad for so many ... with thoughts - Hilary
ReplyDeleteThank you, Hilary. You are a steadfast friend.
DeleteKeep it coming!!
ReplyDeleteI vote yes for tip Tuesday!! If anything, they help me when sending out formal correspondence at work.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad your sons friend is OK. What happened in Orlando is beyond devastating. Reading some of those young people's last text messages to love ones had me on the verge of tears yesterday.
I fell apart when I learned Nic was across the street!
DeleteYou should continue to blog about grammar if it is something you enjoy. Personally, I love grammar tips. You could put a short disclaimer on the post about your intentions.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad your son's friend is okay. What happened is beyond horrible.
I do enjoy writing about grammar. I'll put my disclaimer at the beginning of the post instead of the end.
DeleteI, also, vote in favor of Tip Tuesday. I love that you recognize that blogs are a form of expression and sometimes the rules of grammar need not apply. I take numerous liberties with grammar, spelling and punctuation. I'm shameless with the use of periods...seriously...shameless.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear that your son's friend was at a safe distance. This type of needless violence is beyond tragic.
I like people who are shameless.
DeletePlease continue to tip; I like to know enough to do things wrong on purpose. ;-)
ReplyDeletePlease continue to tip; I like to know enough to do things wrong on purpose. ;-)
ReplyDeleteYou're so adamant that you had to say it twice. Cool!
DeleteNic's angels were watching out for him!
ReplyDeleteI like the refresher tips. Even if I rarely write formally anymore it's nice to know one can clean up well and be presentable. ;)
It's like combing our hair even if we're not leaving the house.
DeleteI vote to keep tip Tuesday!!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd now on to our quest to funny.
Lead the way, Madam!
DeleteI think you should keep it going. I never thought of it as a criticism but just felt open to say that I am guilty of things. I find it positive and appreciate your tips. I'm glad your sons friend is ok but I feel he will have to deal with a lot afterwards. So many will because people forget of PTSD
ReplyDeleteEmotional trauma is and will be a huge problem. After I found out about Nic, saw his video, and heard the shots, I was so cold, although it's hotter than hell here (I can't afford much AC). I couldn't quit shaking and crying. I'm okay now, but the fear will pop up over and over. It's a million times worse for the people who were there.
DeleteI am a stickler for correct grammar and every time I hear or see a mistake I shiver dramatically. Pedantic of me, I know, but I can’t help it.
ReplyDeleteCarry on doing what you, so long as you don’t mind that some people might find you pedantic too.
I'm okay with pedantic, but I don't like making people feel bad about their blogs.
DeleteAny self-respecting Grammar Nazi like myself should vote that you keep Tip Tuesday. So that's my vote.
ReplyDeleteDuly noted, Mr. Fox.
DeleteI feel that I benefit from your grammar tips and wouldn't mind if they continued.
ReplyDeleteYour enthusiasm overwhelms me.
DeleteHey Janie,
ReplyDeleteBy all means, keep your Tip Tuesday, my articulate friend. Of course, a "Tip", in the UK, can mean a landfill site.
Anyways n'stuff, I shall continue on with my grammer, um, grammar anarchy!
As you were, Janie.
Gary
Oh, great. I write about garbage heaps.
DeleteOr is "to funny" a verb? Example: "I'm off to the comedy club tonight. I expect the performers to funny until I am rolling on the floor."
ReplyDeleteOf course you should continue the Tuesday Tips!
I'm glad your son's friend is alright.
Okay, if you say so.
DeleteI vote yes! And i'm very glad that your son's friend is ok!
ReplyDeleteI looked at all his tweets yesterday. In addition to the video of police cars with the sound of shooting, he had lots of close up photos of first responders and people in the area. It's too real now.
DeleteWe can use all the help we can get!
ReplyDeleteI need help.
DeleteOh, that picture is TOO funny! I think I shall use it.
ReplyDeleteCopycat Penwusser.
DeleteNo matter what tip you share, I love your stuff. Do not stop!
ReplyDeleteYes, ma'am. I appreciate your adamant attitude.
DeleteYes of course
ReplyDeleteYES! I find these tips useful!
ReplyDeleteLove,
Jessica
"All we can do is carry on." I love that even though it ends in a preposition. Please carry on with Tip Tuesday. Though I don't get to visit as much anymore, I always learn something new from Tip Tuesday. Let us know the rules so we can know when to break them.
