Gentle Readers . . . and Maxwell,
I have the winner for the June 1 Battle of the Bands. I know how excited you must be.
Try to prop your eyelids open while I make the announcement and then you can sleep the rest of the day. Take time off from work. Tell your boss that The Queen of Grammar gave you permission.
The winner is
Usher 11
Sonic Youth 9
Sorry, Sonic Youth, but it's not as if Usher really whipped your butt.
Your reward for deigning to vote in this battle, or glance at it as you passed by, is to listen to what I consider the best version of Superstar.
Sing us out, please, Karen. And Richard, you do whatever it is that you do when you're not playing the piano.
Infinities of love,
Janie Junebug
Oh, wait a minute. Hold it, Karen. I forgot to vote. That means Usher ushed the win by one because I vote for Sonic Youth. Carry on now, Karen. I still miss you. When I am dead and gone, who will worship all those Carpenters albums in my cabinet?
I love your posts. "Oh wait a minute. Hold it, Karen. I forgot to vote"
ReplyDeleteWhat a hoot !
cheers, parsnip and thehamish
Close battle, Janie. Great job. Nothing like a Carpenter to fix that song.
ReplyDeleteI do like Usher, but I'd vote for the Carpenters.
ReplyDeleteThere are so many good versions of this song! It has quite a history!
ReplyDeleteShe had such a clear, sweet voice. It was probably so easy for her that she never appreciated that gift--or herself, you know?
ReplyDeleteHey Janie,
ReplyDeleteThat was a close battle. Carpenters music! Yuck. Of course, they did a later version of "Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft". A song originally done and to me, a much better version, by the legendary Canadian band, "Klaatu".
Sorry, I rambled.
Gentle Gary.
She was just so young and yet, I thought she was old. Even though I was young when she died I always thought of her as old and I think it is because of the disease. I voted for Sonic Youth...great battle
ReplyDeleteThat was a close battle. Usher has a stronger, more powerful voice. With the Sonic Youth version, I like the instruments more.
ReplyDeleteKaren Carpenter had such an amazing voice.
