JUST AN OLD FASHIONED LOVE SONG

Gentle Readers . . . and Maxwell,

Recently everyone's best friend Shady Del Knight mentioned Three Dog Knight in a post (yes, that's intentional), which you can read HERE. I still have all my Three Dog Night albums, including one that's autographed by two of the dogs.

The post made me think of my favorite Three Dog Night song, so I must share it with you.

Infinities of old-fashioned love,

Janie Junebug

  2. GREAT song! I just got this stuck in my head the last two days (only recently dethroned when I was in a supermarket and they played "Shake it Off") because when I heard there was a blizzard coming to the northeast so I immediately thought of the saying that "it's going to be a three-dog night." Now it all comes full circle!

  3. Hi, dear Janie Junebug! Thank you very much for the plug. I remember being bowled over in 1969 the first time I heard Three Dog Night's first single, a soft rock interpretation of "Try a Little Tenderness," a 1930s song made popular in the rock 'n' roll era by Otis Redding backed by Booker T. & the M.G.'s. From the late 60s through the mid 70s, Three Dog Night was a fixture on the radio. They had an impressive string of hits that included 9 singles in the top 5 and 3 that topped the chart. Three Dog Night recorded some of the most iconic songs of the century including the one you posted here written by Paul Williams. Three Dog Night is ranked the #8 act of the 70s and #37 for the entire 30 year period from 1955 through 1984.

Thank you again for your active participation in SDMM, dear Janie, and for being such a wonderful friend!

  5. Sorry I don't know the song. But if it makes you feel good and bring back great memories, that's all that counts.

  6. Oh, I loved Three Dog Night too back in the day! This is a great video -- and no lip syncing there! I still like gorgeous long hair on men but the lead singer's porn 'stache HAS to go!

  8. That is awesome that you have it signed by tow of the three. I remember listening to that song in my dad's garage while he fixed things.

  9. Hands down my favorite Three Dog Night song! Although I like Family of Man. The song, not the people. I have enough mouths to feed.

  15. Three Dog Night did the best version of this song ever! I didn't even like when Paul Williams did this one, and he wrote it. Love, love, love them.

I nominated you for The Very Inspiring Blogger Award!
