GRATITUDE TUESDAY: IN WHICH I EXPRESS MY GRATITUDE FOR YOUR ALLEGIANCE TO YOUR QUEEN OF GRAMMAR

Gentle Readers . . . and Maxwell,

I am so pleased to continue my reign as your Queen of Grammar, and I thank you for your support.

Although mine is not a paid position, I do appreciate the little tokens of gratitude that you send me.

I believe it all started with my badge, a gift from fishducky, who is currently on a medical leave of absence.

Fishducky also sends me grammar-related cartoons.

Andi, a.k.a. Little Myoo of delusions of ingenuity -- who thinks she can play that Yamaha she has and she kind of can but not as well as I'd play it if it were in my living room -- emailed 19 Jokes Only Grammar Nerds Will Understand. (What doth this word "nerd' signify? It can't possibly refer to Your Queen.)

One of Andi's offerings:

Most recently, I received this adorable card from Juli of Surviving Boys:

Please remember that Your Queen is here to assist you with all your grammatical needs.

Ah, 'tis a lovely day. The sun is shining. The dogs are at play. We have no snow, and we never will.

Thus, I bid you a fond farewell -- until tomorrow, darling subjects (and predicates).

In honor of fishducky:

Infinities of love,

Janie Junebug

  1. Oh, Queen of Grammar, I have recently begun to slip in the comma and semicolon departments. I hope this does not annoy you to greatly should you be kind enough to chose to read my posts. I found it just drains too much of my energy. Sitting there, wondering, worrying, about these commas. Where oh where do they go?. Or is it: Where, oh, where do they go? Your faithful Grammar Subject.

Sending lots of love and healing thoughts to fishducky.

  2. Hello, Janie Junebug! Whilst traveling abroad I picked up the European edition of the Comma Sutra. Most of the figures require the use of a colon.

    1. If you deliver the baby in the car, then I want first dibs on reporting the story. But I'm sure everything will be fine.

  8. And predicates. Ha! I was just discussing with one of my few lifelong friends how we miss diagramming sentences. They don't teach that anymore, and that's just crap. I loved doing that. Does that make me a nerd? I love that bitch cartoon.

    1. Now I'm certain you're insane. I HATE diagramming sentences. I subbed at a private school in Illinois where they diagrammed sentences, so it's still done here and there, where the crazies are.

    2. See? I went to Catholic school in Illinois. A couple of us would get to school early and try and find the most complex sentences we could, and diagram them on the board before class started.

  9. Oh my gosh! The ecard!!!!! My 13 year old daughter had a class penpal letter to respond to and she said she was just going to write that the girl had too many grammar erros for her to write back to her!!!

  10. IT is good that you offer this service but I don't need it. Mainly because I don't give a shit what people think as long as the understand what I am saying. I don't feel the need to please everyone and to have them please with all my commas, quotation marks and hypotenuses and squares. If they concentrat more on corrections than what is being said, perhaps they need to move on to another blog and not come back. But I understand that there are those who do care and you are doing a good thing for them. Me? Just bring me a beer and I will be happy.

  11. Awww yeah, the coma sutra is so hot, all those people who can't move because they're paralyzed in a coma. So hot. What? What's that now? I missed an "m"? Isn't that just an extra long coma? I may have goofed.

  12. Ah! It's a dancing chicken! (Ahem, that used to be me...or was it just headless...I can't remember.) Thanks for the laugh, Janie. That was awesome.

  15. I don't know what had me laughing more: the post or the comments. It's a fine, fine blogger indeed who can recruit such awesome commenters.
