Gentle Readers . . . and Maxwell,
What a day it's been! No matter the weather, the sun came out at noon.
In spite of masks, in spite of social distancing, in spite of the necessity for a heavy National Guard presence, the inauguration was perfect. Joe! Kamala!! Jill!!! Doug!!!! Amanda Gormon!!!!! I'm in love with all of you.
Can you believe a woman is the vice president? Can you believe a woman of color is the vice president? When Hillary wasn't elected, I was afraid a woman in the top spot wouldn't occur during my life. Joe introduced us to The Possible.
How nice to see three former presidents (Obama, George W., and Clinton) supporting the peaceful transfer of power. I'm sure Jimmy Carter shares their sentiments.
I cried on and off all day, and every tear was shed in joy and gratitude. Fortunately, I've reached the point in my recovery that I can cry without experiencing pain.
No one can take my happiness away from me, but I'm glad to share it with every single one of you.
Infinities of love,
Janie Junebug
Me too! My favorite quote came in handy today.
ReplyDelete"We cannot change the past, but we can change our attitude toward it. Uproot guilt and plant forgiveness. Tear out arrogance and seed humility. Exchange love for hate-thereby, making the present comfortable and the future promising," Maya Angelou
I miss Maya, but we can still enjoy her because of her poetry and memoirs.
DeleteGreat day. I posted about it and wow, had a few hateful comments. But I responded, hopefully I did a good job but the Trump supporters are so upset right now. I think more of it is because they kept expecting something to happen in the last moments and they realize they've been had by a con man. Hopefully four years of good stuff happening will help bring them back. Until then we'll enjoy our victory and be grateful how close we came to losing our democracy.
ReplyDeleteYesterday on MSNBC, someone interviewed a trump supporter who was extremely upset because he believed that during the last minutes before the inauguration that trump would declare martial law and take over the country. You'll never get hate from me at your blog.
DeleteI watched the Celebrate America in the evening and cried hopeful tears. The contrast with the me-me-me guy was stark. ;) Was a good day. :)
ReplyDeleteAdults are in charge again. They don't act out of hatred and spite.
DeleteHi Janie ... it was a good day ... there's hope ... take care - Hilary
ReplyDeleteIt was, indeed, a lovely day.
DeleteAnd the perfect GIF. "I will be a president for ALL Americans." We haven't heard that for a long item. In my opinion, this couldn't have been more perfect.
ReplyDeleteYES!!!
DeleteThe world will be a better place now that Trump has gone. I hope that the media ignores him and deprives him of the spotlight he craves. My best hopes of all are for Kamala Harris. Watch this woman, she will make a difference. Of course, she lived in Canada for several years, and still has close family here, so that will serve her well! And her husband seems like a decent, supportive fellow too.
ReplyDeleteI'm relieved because Joe and Kamala are not surrounded by scandal. And I'm thrilled that Joe includes Kamala in everything that must be done.
DeleteI'm with you. It was a joyous day. I'm sure the Carters were there in spirit, even if they couldn't be there physically.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely there in spirit.
DeleteIt was balm for the soul alright.
ReplyDeleteI can't begin to tell you how much I appreciate all the support we've received from our Canadian friends.
DeleteI teared up too, then I exhaled and it felt like a huge burden had been lifted off me. I didn't realize how much tensions I must have had in my body for the past four years. So happy and at peace now.
ReplyDeleteEvery day with 45 brought tension and peril. What would he do next? We never knew.
DeleteI woke up feeling like ANYTHING is possible today! yesterday was FABU! INTELLIGENT ADULTS are now talking.
ReplyDeleteFrabjous is my word for it.
DeleteMost Canadians are rejoicing with you! 🎉
ReplyDeleteI love you, Canada!
DeleteLovely is the word
ReplyDeleteI love you, Australia!
DeleteThe poet from Harvard (I am blanking on her name) was AMAZING. And Bernie's mittens!!!
ReplyDeleteLove where I'm from. :)
Lots of cute Bernie memes are around because he was dressed for the weather and looked so relaxed.
DeleteIt was indeed a wonderful day. Every sentiment you expressed is spot on. We are blessed.
ReplyDeleteIt's good to hear you're feeling better.
Joe and Kamala and their families lift my spirits.
DeleteIt was definitely a good day in the neighborhood. Absolutely loved the poem by Amanda Gorman.
ReplyDeleteShe is a talented young lady--"a skinny black girl."
DeleteI should have thought ahead and asked for the day off so I could watch it live, but alas, I was at work feeding America's children in a town where sadly most of their parents are Rs. I had a friend send me a text after the swearing in so I'd know when the joyous moment happened. I cried happy tears in a corner by myself.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry you had to work. This is one time I'm grateful not to have a job.
DeleteI was working but saw quite a bit after and am so happy. I almost did the jig! He has quite the house to fix up but he can do it. I picture someone who buys a home and when the former tenants leave, they leave it in a disgusting mess. The people who bought the place must now get the javax out(don't drink it), the gloves, roll up the sleeves and start to clean. I don't think we have heard the last of this inbred family but I hope it is to bring them to justice. The last thing anyone needs is to have them run for president in 4 years.
ReplyDeleteI've heard talk about Ivana running for the senate in Florida. May god help us all if anyone in that family gets elected to anything. I like your analogy.
DeleteSuch a joyful period! It's like a breath of fresh air.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely, Martha.
DeleteThe Inauguration was wonderful! I have to give a shout out to Lady Ga Ga and Jail. And that concert was fabulous, especially Katy Perry . I didn't relax before Joe was sworn in. He and Kamala give me hope again. I'm glad that you can cry without hurting. What you endured is beyond words!
