DEAD ARMADILLO BY THE SIDE OF THE ROAD

 Gentle Readers . . . and Maxwell,

On Aug. 19th when I said I needed to take a blogging break, I didn't know I'd be away so long. I still have a long to-do list, but I miss you too much to allow it to continue to keep me away from you.

I crossed one item off my list this morning. I got my flu shot.

On Monday I went to Costco and did indeed see roadkill armadillo. It was not pretty, but far worse appeared before my eyes inside Costco.

It's not even October!

I've done some cleaning and organizing around the house, including a lot of work on kitchen cabinets. These were stuffed. Now I can find things in them.

I also have new light gray sheets for my bed, a gigantic Sensorpedic pillow, and a StoriArts Little House On The Prairie blanket to take the place of my falling-apart quilt.

I love the blanket. It's so soft.

The next item on the list is taking Franklin to the vet for a thyroid check. He's been on his meds for a month. I'm confident his level will be fine because he's so much livelier. He's even returned to dancing for his supper, which entails trotting backward while moving his front paws around as if he's tap dancing.

If it ever cools down, I hope he'll be willing to take longer walks. I can use some good walkies, too.

Infinities of love,

Janie Junebug

  1. I swear that the stores begin to promote Christmas earlier each year. I can only conclude that their marketing tells them it works, but it turns me off completely. Having said that, there are people in our neighbourhood who have their Christmas lights up soon after Thanksgiving, which is in October here.

    1. I'm pleased to report I had no reaction to the flu shot and I hope you don't either.

    Your cabinets look amazing.
    Take special care.

    1. Thank you. Cleaning out cabinets is one of the best things I've done around the house.

    2. I so need to clean out mine.
That first sign is a hoot.
      Have a wonderful weekend.

    1. The red cup is from a Le Creuset outlet store. I have the same cup in purple and blue. I bought them for Sweet Cheeks to have his coffee in.

  5. I was gone for a couple weeks myself. Looks like you got more done then me. I don't know if I'm coming or going anymore. You have been missed too.

    1. I always miss you, honey bun. If I recall correctly, you took time off for glamping, while I took time off for home repairs and cleaning. Your choice was much more fun than mine.

  6. Welcome back! There's nothing so satisfying as clean and well-organized cupboards!

  7. Oh Costco, seriously? Those trees make me wanna burn the warehouse down.

And that organization thrills me. I love a good neat organized cupboard almost as much as I love Carlos.
    I kid.

And I'm loving your LHotP blanket. Very cool.

Sending good thoughts on Franklin's checkup.

    1. I was shocked and disgusted by the Xmas decorations. I love an organized cupboard even more than I love Carlos. I'm a big Laura Ingalls Wilder fan, but I also got a Jane Eyre blanket to adorn my living room couch. Franklin's thyroid number is too high now so the vet cut his meds in half.

  8. So happy to read about Franklin, and the clean and organized cabinets. And new sheets. I think I need an FU shot. I have an awful lot of FU going around.

    1. I'm afraid the shot won't take away my case of FU.

  9. Love the new goodies and the organizing. I hope franklin's test turned out okay. Longer walks sounds like a good plan if he's up to it. Glad to see you blogging, my friend. :)

    1. The vet called to say Franklin's thyroid number is now too high so I'm to cut his meds back from twice a day to once. The main problem with the appointment was getting Franklin in the car. I can't lift him and it has become difficult for him to hop in. I tossed in a treat and when he put his front paws up to reach for it, I gave his hindquarters a boost. After the appointment one of the vet techs came out to boost him in. It's sad that riding in the car is so hard on him now. Ralph used to take him for a ride almost every weekend.

  10. That is a really cute blanket.
I am starting a huge decluttering process because I am tired of being overwhelmed by stuff!

    1. I'm in love with the blanket. The kind of dusty rose shade looks nice with my gray curtains and walls. I'm always in the process of decluttering.

  11. You're lucky it took until the end of September before Christmas started running amuck in the shops. In our local garden centre the rubbish has been there since August. Next stop ghastly singing reindeers to rub the bad news in.

  12. How did I miss this post. I am glad it finally deigned to appear in my feeder.
You have been busy. Our stores are shut at the moment (lockdown) but I fully expect to see them packed with Christmas fare when they reopen. Shudder.
Good luck at the vet. I really, really hope Franklin gets a clean bill of health.

    1. Do you have any idea how much longer your lockdown will last? Does it seem to be helping? I hope it does. I don't think our lockdown last year did much good because so many stores stayed open and so many people refused to wear masks, or wore them incorrectly. Franklin's thyroid is too high now so we're to cut back on the meds and check again in eight weeks.

    2. The last we have heard lockdown will end the middle of next month - subject to how many cases are still creeping through from the delta variant. We are ALL wearing masks, most of them worn properly. And most shops/businesses are firmly shut.
Good luck with Franklin's next vet visit.

  13. I haven't been to the shops since Feburary and a number of stores are closed still but I expect Christmas stuff to be out in the ones that are opened.

Your cupboards look wonderful. I have a lot of decluttering to do. I put things on a certain table near the door when I know I want to donate them, but the things that are there now have been there for months. I need to just bag it up and take it away.
I see Franklin's results in your replies above - I'm glad he is perkier now and it's good his medication can be reduced. Poor guy, having to forego his drives. Walks would be good, though. Hope that can happen in time.
I'm glad you're back, Janie. You've been missed.

    1. Thank you, Jenny. I have boxes and bags of things to go to charities. It will be a chore to get all of it to the car, but I'll be glad to have it out of the house.

  15. Hi Janie - life is challenging all round isn't it - but sounds like you've had some good times clearing out and getting a few new items in ... I do hope Franklin improves. I know Christmas in September or October is way too early ... spoils it for me. Take care and all the best - Hilary

    1. Cleaning and organizing are never-ending tasks just like laundry. I wash everything and something else is in the hamper minutes later. Franklin's thyroid number is too high, so the vet told me to give him one pill per day instead of two.
