BOTB RESULTS: I THOUGHT NAT WOULD RUN AWAY WITH IT

Gentle Readers . . . and Maxwell,

The song for the October 15 Battle of the Bands was The Ipanemic Girl (I made that up; I think it sounds like a freaky disease), and the contenders were Amy Winehouse and Nat King Cole.

I thought Nat would run away with the battle, as did Favorite Young Man and some of you who said so in your comments. Nat did indeed win, but it was close.

Amy Winehouse   11
Nat King Cole      13

Amy's count includes my own vote because I wanted to bring her a wee bit closer to Mr. Smooth. I love Nat King Cole. He was such a stylist.

But sad Amy has my heart.

Thanks to all of you who voted. I love your comments.

Amy, you may have lost this battle, but will you please sing us out?

Infinities of love,

Janie Junebug

  1. Hi Janie - I'm not sure who I'd have voted for ... but Amy Winehouse has such a unique take on life and her singing ... and I did enjoy her work. Cheers Hilary

  2. I was on vacation and missed the voting, but had I been here Nat King Cole would have my vote. The smooth mellow version is the one I remember and, sorry Janie, the one I still prefer.

  3. Close battles are the best! ☺ I love Amy, but Nat was just too smooth on this one. Thanks for the bonus Amy track. Such a tragic end to a huge talent! ♥

  5. I really wanted Amy to win, too. But good for Nat!

  6. It's so sad that Amy is no longer with us. She's a talent gone too soon.

  7. Amy did better in the voting than I expected, but I still like her version better.

That was a daring match that paid off well in the end.

  8. Nice close battle Janie!
Amy has such a unique voice: kinda reminds me of Gin Wigmore... a little bit anyway...

  9. Amy Winehouse (or Wine House) is no slacker...well, maybe NOW she is slacking off, understandably. It wasn't an easy choice, but Nat is the King.

    Great battle, youngster.

  10. Oh, that was close! Both very good versions.

  11. I think sometimes our comments have trouble getting through here (unless you delete them, gasp!) because I'm not seeing our vote on the last one, among a few other lost comments. We voted Nat King Cole, though Amy's version was pretty good.

    1. Definitely don't delete (gasp!) you, so I checked spam. You're not there. I have no idea where your comments go. If it makes you feel any better, some other people have told me that their comments went up in smoke, too, and sometimes my comments on other blogs disappear--or they're (triple gasp!) deleted.

  12. I'm afraid I would have voted for Nat. I love his voice, and his daughter Natalie's, too. One of my favorite CDs has them singing a duet of "Unforgettable." It's, um... unforgettable. :)

I must confess, though, that I never listened to Winehouse before. I knew who she was, and I heard when she'd died, but your video on here is the first I heard HER. She had a very unique and likable voice.

  13. JANIE ~
Baby, I'm Amazed... at the closeness of this fight.

I thought Amy's version was interesting in a kind of peculiar, novelty-ish way, but expected Nat to clean up here. Dang close Battle! Yeah, what Lee said: "daring". Sometimes that works, and sometimes we get clobbered for it. Ahhh, the mystery of BOTB.

And thanks for the Amy music. I miss her.

  16. Glad to see, even if it was close, Nat wins. As it should be IMHO. Sorry ;)
