Gentle Readers . . . and Maxwell,
I apologize to anyone who saw FRANKLIN FRIDAY. I've removed the post because I really hadn't watched Downton Abbey. I just did so, and I'm so upset about what happened to Anna that I felt it was inappropriate to joke about the show.
I realize that Anna is a fictional character, but anyone who has been abused in any way or even threatened probably relates to her experience on the show (I won't say what it is in case you haven't watched it yet). This experience is horrific.
I apologize. Perhaps Franklin will write about Downton Abbey again some other time.
Infinities of love,
Janie Junebug
I don't think anyone would have criticized you for that post, dear Janie, but I don't blame you for wanting to take it down either. I was also shocked and disturbed when I saw what happened to Anna, my favorite character on Downton. It was ugly and disgusting and will surely strike a nerve with many victims of such abuse.
ReplyDeletePlease take care of yourself this weekend, dear friend.
Oh, I missed the post. Sorry about whatever it is that happens to Anna. I don't watch the Abbey, but it is invading my world in all directions. Do you watch Sherlock? It's a fantastic show that I hear is airing in the States on PBS right after DA.
ReplyDeleteI've always been afraid that one of my posts will make an inappropriate joke at an inopportune time. This is mostly a danger with delayed posts (even more with the A-Z Challenge. I have those suckers up weeks beforehand). For instance, imagine if I made an insensitive remark about the World Trade Center which would have been frikkin' hilarious on September 10, 2001. I'd feel very badly on September 11th. I even feel badly about joking about Warren Harding. Hey, he may still have fans out there. So, I understand.
ReplyDeleteI've only seen the first season on Netflix so even telling me there's a character named "Anna" is a spoiler. That must have been a powerful episode to evoke such a reaction.
ReplyDeletePoor Anna, I thought her life was finally going to settle down and be calm and happy. I didn't see the post, but a good idea to take it down. I hope you explained to Franklin. I know Samson would be mad if I took one of his down.
ReplyDeleteI still haven't begun to watch the program, so no worries. :)

I haven't watched it either but I probably would have done the same thing
ReplyDeleteHorrible, horrible episode. I love Anna, and, like you said, even though she's fictional, I still felt so sad about what happened to her. And worried about her future, with her trying to keep it a secret. Thank goodness I don't let most shows affect me as much as that one does, with all it's ups and downs!
ReplyDeleteIt was so emotional and realistic. Very frightening! I think I feel more affected by that episode than by any other show I've ever seen.
DeleteI do watch Downton Abbey and I didn't take issue with your post due to that horrible plot turn. I just accepted that you (or Franklin) was talking about the program in general. Please don't fret about this. And please don't punish Franklin for his post. I love hearing from him. Actually, I laughed really hard.
ReplyDeleteFranklin doesn't know what it is to be punished. I did think Lady Syllable was funny.
DeleteI missed the post, and I don't Downton. So, I guess I've missed the boat all around. :(
ReplyDeleteOh, I hadn't read the Friday post, but I agree--DA was upsetting! I will be glued to the set tomorrow night!
ReplyDeleteI have never watched it either and didn't see the post you took down so all good.........
ReplyDeleteI was so shocked when I saw the show, and I still wonder how it is going to play out, but I didn't think your post was disrespectful at all.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I didn't feel it was disrespectful. I just didn't want to joke about a show with a tragic occurrence to which many people will relate. It's too painful.
DeleteI didn't see the show, but I would've reacted the same way if I had seen it!
ReplyDeleteI don't watch much TV anymore. Nothing good, and I'm starting to prefer silence.
ReplyDeleteBut, THE WALKING DEAD? I'm glued to the TV. You have better taste then I do.
I don't think The Walking Dead means you have poor taste. The Hurricane watches it and loves it, and I know some other people who adore it, too.
DeleteIt's a shocking storyline. I'll be interested to see how you feel about the way it all pans out.
ReplyDeleteIt is shocking! The way he hit poor Anna and dragged her off screaming! I bet it upset a lot of people.
DeleteI've never seen it so I tend to skip posts related to it, for two reasons. One, I won't understand what is happening. Two, I don't want spoilers if I do get the chance to watch it. Now, I'm really curious about it.
