KISS WHO? MONDAY

Gentle Readers . . . and Maxwell,

Who gave you your first romantic kiss? What do you remember about it?

My first real kiss came from a boy named Tim when I was in the eighth grade. Tim came over to my house, and we went in my bedroom to talk. My mom yelled at me to keep the door open, but defiant child I was, I closed it.

Tim moved closer and closer and suddenly his lips were on mine and his tongue was in my mouth! Gross! What was he doing?

I bit down.

He yelled.

That got his tongue out of my mouth.

Tim and I were boyfriend/girlfriend for a few weeks, and then I think I tired of him. He was kind of cute, but not all that intelligent.

He didn't take it well when I broke up with him, and he hassled me for a while.

My 35th high school reunion was a couple of weeks ago. I didn't attend. I didn't recognize the names of most of the people who would be there.

But I did recognize the names of many of the people on the deceased list.

Tim was among them.

Now, how about you: Who gave you your first romantic kiss? What do you remember about it?

Infinities of love,

Janie Junebug

  1. I was a late bloomer (read: dork) so we're talking late high school here at one of the very few parties I attended and, well, she had a few too many drinks and just kind of wandered over and did it. Surprised the heck out of me. :)

    1. Dear Dork, Uh, I mean Rick,

You were in the right place at the right time. I hope you get plenty of kisses now.

    1. He had kind of long blond hair and blue eyes. I don't know if he ever got married or had children before he died.

  3. Fourth grade. His name was Danny, and he had a crush on Patty. I had a crush on him. And it was ME he kissed out in the back alley one afternoon. That was it. Just one kiss, but I felt strangely victorious.

  4. Julie Kelleher, we were 14 and outside St. Andrews Church Youth Club on a Friday night. I asked her out but cant remember who instigated the kiss. It was on the lips but no tongues.

  5. Dear Janie, I have no history of romantic kisses. Once in college I did date for a while and when we came back to Kansas City for summer vacation, he took me out just once. It was clear when he kissed me that I had no experience and found the whole thing daunting. So I never saw him again! Peace.

    1. Obviously, you have the wisdom to know what you can without.

  6. That is so sad that he died :(

My first kiss was in a picture booth--it was terrible and I threw away the pictures to prove it.

  7. My first lip kiss was with a dear friend today, Joy, on the church bus going to a Boy Scout awards ceremony. My first tongue kiss was from a girl (don't remember her name)on a church hayride. She came as someone else date but seem to like me more...understandable. Many of my first encounters were church related...praise the Lord.

  8. June 15th, 1984. I was 15...it was my first boyfriend, Kurt. We are still friends today. He was a great kisser! Kissing with braces was not fun though.
Rudolph is now my favorite kisser....go figure.

  9. I was nine {yes!} and a few of us were playing "Hide and Seek". This boy, who I didn't like because we were just kids and he was always messing around. Anyhow, I was hiding behind my Dads garage and he KISSED ME ON MY CHEEK!
I was stunned...was THAT it? Was that just what kissing was?
Gosh, that brought back some memories. I guess you never forget the first time. ;)

    1. I think we all have a lot of "firsts" that stay with us forever.

  10. During summer vacation, I was quite 'younger' and he was quite older, better not reveal the age difference. He had the same name as mine. We got together a few more summers after that, but that is it.

  11. Poor Tim! My first kiss was in the back of a van as our high school show choir was driving to a performance one evening. I was kind of shocked that he did that, but it was certainly memorable!

  12. :( That is so sad that he passed away. :( Too young.

My first kiss was sweet. He asked if he could kiss me, which I know some girls hate, but I just thought it was the sweetest thing. Sigh.

    1. I think asking is much nicer than swooping in with a tongue in the mouth. I had no idea what a French kiss was. Asking would have been lovely, as would keeping his tongue to himself.

  13. I don't remember but what I do remember about my first French kiss was that I thought it was gross........honestly not my cup of tea....

    1. A tongue down the throat is really quite an unpleasant shock.

  14. I had a neighbor boy kiss me in my playhouse when I was about 5, but I slapped him because he also grabbed my butt! It wasn't until I was 16 that I finally had my first boyfriend and he kissed me for the first time in the high school parking lot when I was going in to play practice. He turned to a nasty jerk though so my favorite first kiss story is Branden's. His first kiss was me, on Mother's Day in 2008. Minutes after he kissed me fireworks actually went off down the road for an event that was going on! I took it as a sign :)

  16. Oh gosh! I was five in first grade and his name was Peter. He had red hair and freckles and we were instantly drawn to each other like we already knew each other. I remember us spending recesses talking about after we were married--the kind of house we'd have and how many kids and such. We held hands everywhere we went. Peter kissed me one day in the lunch line in second grade--on the lips. We knew we would be together forever. But then in third grade I left parochial school and was sent to public school. I was bereft at losing Peter. I haven't thought about Peter for years! Don't even remember his last name.

    1. Darling, I remember Peter. His last name was Pumpkin Eater. He's divorced. Couldn't keep his wife. Maybe you can find him again.

    2. Elvis here... to pen this very short expose on the very sweet and cuddly Janie Junebug...she is a GREAT kisser, soft and slow, and she never bites...now if we can fix them cold cold feet!!! She is my love and I rarely give her enough time. She has MANY wonderful attributes and only two short comings... ice cold feet (that she plants in VERY mean places) and of course her notorious farts....don't know what that woman eats.... then she tries to blame it on the poor dogs... oh me oh my...

    3. I have bed socks. I promise to wear them the next time your visit. And I do NOT fart! At least not as much as you do.
