Gentle Readers . . . and Maxwell,
Today's shooting occurred in tiny Smithsburg, Maryland.
I suspect he didn't have an assault weapon that would have allowed him to mow down dozens, but a gun is a gun.
For 12 years we lived near Smithsburg. My kids went to middle school there and one attended Smithsburg High School. The schools are near the plant.
Do I know the people who were murdered? Will I see the names of the victims and gasp in shock as I recall them?
Where will the next shooting take place?
Infinities of love,
Janie Junebug
Sadly, in the Unite States of Guns the NEXT shooting has probably already happened.

Mass shootings have become an every-day event.
DeleteWhen will it end...
ReplyDeleteIt appalls me that your government appears to be happy to tell women what they can and cannot do with their bodies - in support of saving 'precious lives' and then cannot act to prevent those lives being taken later.
Opposing abortion is all about controlling women. The people who consider themselves to be pro-life don't care about what happens to those lives after they enter the world.
DeleteThis is just getting tired. And out of control. I just do not get why it is so hard to pass tougher gun laws. Oh yes...because many of the politicians are greedy bastards.
ReplyDeleteNice to see you pop up Janie!!!! I was wondering how you were doing.
xoxo
Hugs and Kisses, Maddie dear. The NRA rules our country.
DeleteThe answers to all your questions tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteHere's another question: How long will it be until I encounter a man with a gun?
DeleteIt is becoming a routine event and still there is a lack of will to do anything to prevent it. Vote every Republican out of office and some progress might be possible.
ReplyDeleteI would love to vote every Republican out. O, that I had such power.
DeleteThis is such a sad time for many! Hugs to you!
ReplyDeleteIt's all the time. We don't have a chance to recover from one shooting before the next occurs.
DeleteIt's alarming how so many people seem to take these events in stride, like they're the price we pay for "liberty." (Which is BS, to my way of thinking.)
ReplyDeleteI saw a poll that said a certain percentage of Republicans (I think it was 49%) believe that mass shootings are the price we pay to maintain our freedom. What about the freedom of those who are murdered?
DeleteThese shootings are sick! Feeling despondent because I don't believe anything will change. Leave your home / take you chances. What a way to live.
ReplyDeleteAnd then there are the people killed by stray bullets that enter homes . . . we aren't safe anywhere.
DeleteJanie, just vote. It may take a lot of voting and a lot of votes, but this will be ended.
ReplyDeleteI always vote, love, and I encourage others to do so.
DeleteIt is just insane that anyone would oppose some gun laws to protect people. You can't really feel safe anywhere anymore--school, work, church, the mall, a bar, or outside at an event. :(
ReplyDeleteYet so many people do oppose gun laws. Can't we at least end the sale of assault rifles?
DeleteThings like this make my heart hurt.
ReplyDeleteSame here, Penwusser.
DeleteThere seem to be a lot of shootings in the states lately
ReplyDeleteYes, it's very bad and it gets worse all the time.
DeleteWhat gun problem? What a nightmare.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sick of it.
DeleteWow, Janie, I don't even know what to say. I don't even live in the U.S and my heart aches.
ReplyDeleteSweet Cheeks was tired and wasn't going to come over on Saturday, but I told him how upset I was about the latest shooting and that I needed him to hold me. He arrived at my door within the hour. Having his arms around me is comforting.
DeleteThis must add an extra urgency to the desperation you already feel, Janie. I hope things improve there with the next election. So many people, even Republicans, disagree with the current gun laws, but a small group of powerful politicians are preventing change. It's not a healthy place for the country to be.
ReplyDeleteThe Republicans are sure to do well in the 2022 elections with our awful inflation and Joe Biden's lack of popularity. It doesn't bode well for the future.
