Gentle Readers . . . and Maxwell,
It's time to announce the winner in the May 15 Battle of the Bands. The song is I Will Always Love You. The contenders are the composer of the song, Dolly Parton, who also performs it, and Whitney Houston, who had a gigantic hit with it after she starred in The Bodyguard with Kevin Costner. The song was part of the soundtrack.
And the winner is
Dolly Parton 20
Whitney Houston11
Congratulations, Dolly! I loved all the battles set up by the participants in this blog hop.
Perhaps we can console Whitney with an oldie but a goody.
Infinities of love,
Janie Junebug
I'm surprised that Dolly Parton won too. Not that she isn't worthy, and like I mentioned, it pained me to vote against her, but I just thought Whitney's version was so much stronger. Interesting. Was a good battle!

I was expecting it to go Whitney's way. Glad Dolly won!! :)
ReplyDeleteLike I said, Whitney was good, but Dolly was a little better.
ReplyDeletecount me as surprised as well. Though maybe not all that surprised.
ReplyDeleteMy results will be posted tomorrow (Mon May 23rd).

I thought for sure Whitney would win but very happy Dolly won !
ReplyDeletecheers, parsnip
I thought Whitney would win for sure...glad Dolly won
ReplyDeleteWhitney is great....but it was Dolly's song!
ReplyDeleteAs I said, I'm in Dolly country...gotta be true to my Tennessee natives...
ReplyDeleteWow, good thing I didn't bet on this one. (You do know Vegas takes wagers on your BotBs, right?)
ReplyDeleteI wish you'd told me sooner. I could have paid singers to take a fall.
DeleteI'm pretty surprised too. I don't really care for Whitney, but I know a lot do, and most consider her version of this as THE one. So... nice to know more people agreed with our judgment this time around. Just this one time. It's almost as if we have taste in music. Kind of.
ReplyDeleteYay!
ReplyDeleteJanie, that was a tough battle. Congrats to Dolly!
ReplyDelete'I Wanna Dance' is the perfect consolation. Love her version. See you June 1st.
Oops...I missed that post. I love me some Dolly, but I would have voted for Whitney. I loved the Bodyguard (KC--yum!) and she belts that song like there's no tomorrow.

I thought Dolly's version was more heartfelt and I'm glad she won, although the results were surprising, given the number of Whitney fans out there. Interesting battle!
ReplyDeleteInteresting competition. Dolly won easily, but it's more her song. Hey, it is her song. Whitney's better at I Wanna Dance With You and her own stuff. I see a theme here. People should stop copying others and do their own thing.
ReplyDeleteCheers to you, my friend.
Really? If I had voted, I would have picked Whitney. I think there should be a do-over.
ReplyDeleteSuch an upset! I really am surprised. I do love these though.
ReplyDeleteInteresting how many people voted for Dolly, but expected Whitney to win. I did vote for Whitney and am still surprised she didn't win. I think her version is the definitive version. But Dolly's a good singer too, so better to lose to her (the writer) than some upstart cover band.
