Gentle Readers . . . and Maxwell,
Remember when Blogger told us that following blogs by email would end over the summer? It hasn't happened. Is it a way of lulling us into complacency and then suddenly slapping us with the loss?
Do some of you who comment here have blogs that I'm not following? I look at profiles when they're available and don't always see a blog listed. If you follow/visit me, then I'd like to check out your blog.
I continue to see that my comments don't always show up on your blogs, including when you don't have comment moderation enabled and I can see the comment before I depart. I swear I'm visiting you! Where do the comments go?
Do you have (American) Thanksgiving plans? I told Sweet Cheeks I will prepare a feast if he will join me. He accepted my invitation immediately, and I have already purchased most of the fixins.
A police officer knocked on my door last week. My son had to request that an officer accompany him so he could get more of his belongings from my garage. Everything went well. He is obeying the restraining order and has not disturbed my peace.
I received a summons for jury duty a while back. The first time I was to be there, I got in an accident on the interstate and had to call to explain why I hadn't arrived. The lovely lady who answered the phone for jury services told me it was okay and she would reschedule my service. The second time I was to be there, I dropped the hedge clippers on my foot the day before and had difficulty walking. The lovely lady rescheduled me for yesterday. On Friday I received a text and email telling me the court session was canceled and I did not need to appear. Hallelujah!
Franklin's thyroid levels were checked again last week. The vet said they're spot on. With cooler temps, we're enjoying some long walks. Franklin no longer turns around to head for home after a short distance. Walking feels good, and it's good for us.
If you decorate for Christmas, when do you set out your decorations? I usually decorate the day after Thanksgiving. I love the flashing of those pretty, little lights.
I hope you're having a great week.
Infinities of love,
Janie Junebug
As long as blogger works, I'm a happy camper. I find lately for me that comments either don't show up or disappear altogether...or I can't even access some blogs. And others I know seem to have problems composing posts where the font and layout get screwy. Not sure why this happens to some and not others. I wonder if it has to do with the type of bowser or platform their own? Luckily no problems for me.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes...I love Thanksgiving. A holiday to just be together, enjoy company and eat, with no expectations. It's one of my favorite meals of the year.
Sweet Cheeks and I have no expectations other than enjoying good meal together. I'm glad Blogger is behaving for you.
DeleteAs you know I have been having HUGE problems with commenting recently. Blogger has not yet bothered to help, but I am for the moment using a different browser, which (fingers crossed) appears to be working.
ReplyDeleteOur Christmas decorations (such as they are) go up in the week before Christmas.
I am thrilled that Franklin's thyroid levels are where they should be again.
And here you are! Let's hope it stays this way because I missed you. I'm thrilled about Franklin's thyroid, too. He is my main man.
DeleteAll the best Janie - you've lots going on. Glad Franklin is obviously easier and you're both enjoying your walks.
ReplyDeleteRe commenting - I make a plan and do what I can .... over the years there's been challenges. Take care - Hilary
Challenges are always around us, aren't they? We have to overcome them when we can.
DeleteHey there, been a while. Lots going on, not feeling the holiday thing yet. No big plans here for Thanksgiving or Christmas. Sounds like you've got a lot going on. Oh, and I love the memes in the previous post! Have a good rest of your week, my friend.
ReplyDeleteThank you. Our week has been very nice with walks and (mostly) sunshine.
DeleteWe are having a simple Thanksgiving this year, just the two of us, and I am looking forward to it.
ReplyDeleteOur Christmas decorations go up the weekend after Thanksgiving, and come down the weekend after New Years.
I always see your comments on my blog.
Jury duty. I've done it three times.
Three times! I'm impressed. A couple of times I've re-visited your blog and found that comments I left were not there, so if I don't comment on a post, be suspicious, Bob. Be very suspicious.
DeleteSometimes blog comments go to the spam file. I don't know why. But yours always come through on my blog!
ReplyDeleteBut I have seen comments I left on your blog disappear.
DeleteI gave up my blog when it started taking over my life; too much time spent writing posts.
ReplyDeleteI used to be Jury Summoning Officer for Oxford Crown Court, along with a lot of other interesting jobs in the court. We always tried to help people who had problems doing jury service. I'd hate to be working there now; there's a four year delay for trials reaching court; in part due to covid and in part due to government cutbacks (so that the Prime Minister can fly back from COP26 to go to a dinner in London)!
Boris Johnson also requires extra hair-mussing funds, apparently.
DeleteThat's to make him look sweet and "cuddly" - in neither of which he succeeds; in fact Bozo looks creepy - I had an X-rated nightmare about him the other week - don't ask!
DeleteI will not ask. What a horrible nightmare.
DeleteHi Janie, I suspect your missing comments on others' blogs end up in their spam folders because that is what happens when you comment on mine. Don't know why! 😟 I check regularly, so nothing gets missed, but other people may not be doing that. Is your problem only with WordPress or Blogger, as well? Sometimes the two different platforms don't play nicely with each other. Have you considered updating your site to HTTPS, which makes it more secure? That might be the reason, too. It's not hard to do. Here's a tutorial: Turn On HTTPS For Your Blog
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you and Sweet Cheeks will have a lovely Thanksgiving. Enjoy! 😀 I follow the German Christmas tradition to decorate on the First Advent (4th Sunday before Christmas). This year that will be Nov. 28.
You must be relieved not to have jury duty! Good that your son is abiding by the rules. Long may it last!
Thank you, Debbie. I'll take a look at the tutorial. The missing comments mostly occur on Blogger. I was very relieved not to have jury duty. The wood benches and chairs in the courtroom are very hard on my back. I had difficulty walking after I was there to get the restraining order.
DeleteI am still getting blog posts via email. Not sure if I am getting all of the ones I used to or not. I haven't gone back to check if my comments are visible. I haven't made a lot of them recently with everything going on but I do read the posts.
ReplyDeleteGlad son got more of his stuff out. And glad FRanklin is doing so well! :)
I'm still getting everything I'd signed up to receive by email so I suspect you are, too. Keeping Franklin healthy means a lot to me. I worry more about him that about myself.
DeleteDecorations go up anytime from the 16 November a rule I brought in when my girls were little as they would start asking as soon as they saw Christmas stuff in shops.
ReplyDeleteIf I put up decorations when they appear in stores, at one time it would have been after Thanksgiving but now it would be before Halloween.
DeleteMy comments disappear quite frequently too and I'm not sure to where. They get lost in the blog world. I'm glad to hear that your restraining order is being respected. Oh my with the hedge clippers! Thank goodness that didn't end up worse.
ReplyDeletePoint down with the hedge clippers would have been a nightmare. Do your comments only disappear sometimes on Blogger, or also on WordPress?
DeleteYou have lots going on. Glad you will be having a Thanksgiving feast as a twosome.
ReplyDeleteI have already started decorating for Christmas only because I was deep cleaning before w go out of town and will not be back until Nov.29. I figured I might as well go ahead and decorate.
I always do a lot of cleaning while I decorate and when I put away the decorations. It's the perfect time to dust thoroughly.
DeleteGoing to Mom's for Turkey day. Good news on Franklin. We've also had cops at the door... not ready to talk about any of it. Youngest had jury duty (his first) last week. Quick and painless. Our tree is up (simply because I had time and energy) but won't get decorated until the day after Thanksgiving. Oldest is home for the week and I suspect Bonus will come over as well because there's laundry to be done. :) I do love when they decorate the tree for me... all of our ornaments are from trips we've been on. It's like memory lane.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry about cops at the door. They don't show up because they have happy news. Although in my most recent case it was a sign of the order being obeyed, I'd rather not have a cop at the door at all. Many of my ornaments are from long ago vacations and have sweet memories attached to them.
DeleteI always appreciate your visits to my wee blog, all the more because it is not one visited by many.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy your writing, Mirka, and am always happy to see you here.
DeleteI always waited for some time during the week after Thanksgiving to decorate for Christmas. Haven’t done so in a number of years. Will see. No Christmas tree. Damned cats. I can only comment on other blogs (consistently at least) from my laptop or desktop computer. I regularly get an error message if I try to comment from my iPad. Drives me crazy. Glad your son is following the rules.
ReplyDeleteThe first Christmas we had our cat Milhous, he climbed to the top of the tree, stole the angel, and bit off her face. He gave me another angel for Christmas. I can't comment on blogs from my tablet. I've given up on that.
DeleteI'm glad things went well with your son and you have exciting plans for Thanksgiving.
ReplyDeleteI put my Christmas stuff the day after Thanksgiving too, mostly so I can avoid Black Friday shopping.
I'm going to put up my organic, free range, ethically harvested, locally sourced Christmas tree over the weekend. If you want a tree like that, you just have to find a vacant lot and have some clippers with you.
ReplyDeleteI was sent straight home from the court on Monday but have been told to turn up again tomorrow so maybe I will get to do jury service.
ReplyDeleteGlad your son behaved.
We used to decorate just before Elder Son's birthday (18th Dec) but maybe a bit earlier these days.
