ANOTHER YEAR OVER

Gentle Readers . . . and Maxwell,

I apologize for the spammy porn in the comments on the most recent FRANKLIN FRIDAY post. I hope that most of you didn't see it. I didn't look at my blog for more than a week and was pretty surprised by the comments that built up during that time. I deleted all the nasty/stupid stuff. If I have a problem again soon, then I'll go back to comment moderation.

I have a few more Christmas photos to share with you because of new decorations that were on the dining room table.

2019 was our first Christmas to feature a Charlie Brown Christmas tree, and little Peanuts figurines that make the tree look gigantic:

When I moved to Florida in 2009, I brought two Nativity scenes. My mom gave both to me. One is glass and one is porcelain. My mother made the latter in a class that she took. After I arrived, Baby Jesus was suspiciously absent from both sets. Carol came across a complete Nativity scene and even purchased a red place mat to put it on so it would show up better.

Baby Jesus in da house. I'm going to leave out the Nativity scene for a while because we can never have too much Jesus in our lives.

I'm sure that Franklin and Penelope will want to write to you soon so they can brag about their Christmas haul.

Infinities of love,

Janie Junebug

John and Yoko, will you please sing us out? If possible, though, maybe can someone turn off Yoko's microphone? No? Too late now, I guess.

December 8, 1980, John Lennon died. My baby boy was almost eight months old. I was 21, soon to be 22. John Lennon was 40.

  1. Happy New Year, Janie! Doesn't Blogger have some kind of spam controller, other than moderation? They should really fix that! "War Is Over" is my favourite Christmas song. John Lennon's murder was a great tragedy, but his music lives on. ♥

    1. I love War Is Over, too. I heard a cover of it while shopping at Costco one day. It was a woman singing. Sounded good, but couldn't beat the original, of course.

  2. A very Happy New Year to you and all your family (including Carol of course).
I did see those spammy comments. They have popped up on a few of my favourite blogs. Hiss and spit.
If only War WAS Over and we WERE prepared to give Peace a Chance.

    1. The spammers are off to a rip-roaring start in 2020. Yes, I wish war were over. I'm very concerned about Trump dealing with Iran and Iraq.

      Love,
      Janie

    2. I read those porn spams and thought they were absolute hilarious, they were obviously written by a bizarre and surreal big-tit obsessed comic genius.

  3. Happy New Year to you also! I seem to have lost my nativity figures (Which means I did not get any Christmas decorations out of the holiday closet this year and they are packed away until December 2020. )Judging by how fast January is going I will turn around a few times and it will be July 4th, then what feels like 2 weeks later will be Halloween and then it is just minutes until Christmas again.

  4. A nativity scene without the baby? :0
When Lennon died something more died with him. Maybe the feeling that artists can change the world.

    1. Hmmm. Now I'm trying to think of an artist who has tried or has changed the world--since Lennon's death. At the moment, I can't come up with anything.

    2. What about Bob Geldof and Bono? There are probably others but those names stand out for me.

    3. Those are good choices, Jenny, but they don't stand out for me the way John Lennon did.

  5. I love that cross stitched tablecloth! Did you make it? We were just talking about Elvis's death at work the other day. So many gifted and talented artists died tragically and way too young. I'm a fan of a rock band that has 3 brothers in it. They are young, but so amazing and I hope every day that nothing bad happens to them.

    1. Yes, I did embroider the cloth. It made its first appearance for Christmas 2018. I'm embroidering a table runner with the same design. I wonder if so many gifted and talented artists die young because fame does them in in some fashion. Elvis is a good example. He seemed to believe he could do anything and have anything.

  6. The same thing happens to my blog, especially on the older posts and I even have moderation turned on for older posts. Oh well, to the deletion button.

I agree. We can never have too much Jesus. That's a beautiful nativity.

    1. Carol was so sweet to get it for me. I'd been complaining about the disappearance of Jesus. She found that scene in a thrift shop. It looked as if it had never been taken out of the box.

  7. 1980 I was 29 and Dagan was 6. John was my favorite Beatle since I first saw them on Ed Sullivan. (Not an Ono fan, though.) It was shocking when we heard he was gunned down. Still makes me sad today. He really represented That pure, flower child, hippie love of the earth and all humanity for me. Left a hole in the world.

I got hundreds of spam emails from you--LOL! I just marked them all as spam or deleted them. Got them for days--LOL! ;)

    1. I am thrilled with the Charlie Brown tree. I found the little Peanuts people on ebay for a few dollars and arranged them on the table based on their relationships, such as Lucy staring at Schroeder while he plays the piano because she's always had a crush on him and called him "my sweet baboo."

  11. Love the Peanut decorations, but the nativity stole the show. Your mother made those pieces? That's something that should be passed down for generations.

    1. My mother did not make the nativity scene in the photos. The new one is a gift from Carol. She bought it because baby Jesus is present and accounted for. My mother made a ceramic Mary, Joseph, and a cradle that's been missing its Jesus for 10 years. It was on my mantle.

  15. I didn't realize that the Yoko-John photo was taken hours before he was shot. I'm sure that they had no inkling. What a sad reminder to value every moment. I'm getting the same spammers. Ugh! I may have to do comment moderation too. I didn't put put my nativity scene this year. Yours is really nice. All the best!

  16. Your Charlie Brown Christmas is adorable! Years ago, when we still lived in Maryland, my hubby and I went out in the woods and found a cute little Charlie Brown tree, which I took to work. We set it up in the lab, and all of us loved it.

    Happy New Year, kiddo!

  21. Hi Janie!

    Happy New Year!

I adore you Peanuts tree and decorations. HOW FUN! I was a big peanuts fan as a kid and I have a wonderful Snoopy sitting on his decorated mailbox mechanical as Woodstock pops in and out of it. I absolutely loved it on my front porch!

I agree with the nativity... I still have one of mine out as well and plan to keep it there indefinitely. It's on a lovely antique pine cedar chest in my newly decorated guest room. Every time I walk by it I smile. It truly is a miraculous scene.
