I'm sorry I've been AWOL. I've had a lot going on that I'll share in future posts.
I'm happy to say that I'm sleeping better--most of the time. I combined your tips with suggestions I read online.
I've cut back on Diet Pepsi, especially after 6 p.m. I wash my sheets twice a week and like the white noise provided by a sputtering fan. I am learning to relax in bed instead of being upset that I can't sleep. I've even discovered that if I'm awake all night, it's not the end of the world. I accomplish a lot on sleepless nights.
I was afraid of going to work without sleep and then driving home at midnight. But I did it once and I wasn't at all tired and didn't feel sleepy while I was driving.
A yoga studio has opened near my house. They're going to offer private lessons sometime soon. When they do, I'm going to give it a try to see if I can do it. I think relaxing and stretching will be good for me. My biggest fear is that I'll get down on the floor and won't be able to get up.
Work is much better. I have a new manager. So far so good.

When I get down on my knees to clean something, much grunting and groaning accompanies the switch back to a standing position. I also have to hold onto something to be able to get up.Delete
I'm glad things are looking up! I can't handle all yoga's up-and-down off the floor. That's why I prefer tai chi. It's like doing yoga standing up.ReplyDelete

One technique I use is to breath like I am asleep. It works most of the time. I also have an old iPhone that I use solely for listening to podcasts. I’ll put on ear plugs and listen to a podcast that I have no interest in.ReplyDelete
It usually puts me to sleep in a matter of minutes.
I don’t drink diet drinks. Water, coffee with a touch of honey, or tea.
I absolutely hate coffee and will only drink tea if I'm desperate for a hot drink.Delete
I too, have horrible sleep habits. Stay up and drift off to sleep, then wide awake. I just don't stay asleep very well. But I am retired. On day when I do have to be up early, thatt will make it hard for me to sleep the night before. I am wishing you the best. Blessings, xoxo, SusieReplyDelete

I used to have my daughter's dog to get me off the floor. I'd say, Emma, help Mama. She'd come to me and sit still while I leaned on her back as I got up. God bless that dog. I miss her after many years.Delete

I just discovered a new way to get on my feet if I've been on the floor for any reason (usually to brush my cats). Maybe it will work for others. First I get to a hands and knees position. Then get one foot planted, then the second (hands still on the floor to support some weight, knees bent. Then straighten up. It helps if you're flexible and also if you have monkey-long arms like I do. I was having too much knee pain levering myself upright in the usual way, and discovered this method kind of accidentally. I hope it works for you.
I've heard tai chi (Debra's comment) is excellent for balance, too. I must look around here and see if there's a class.

I don't know if it's my thing, so that's why I want to take a few private classes. If I can't get up and down, then it probably won't work for me.Delete
Tai Chi is preferred for some of us "youngsters". Great for balance and concentration. I just tired of not being able to keep up in Yoga and I like being with others who share the same challenges and who understand.ReplyDelete

I loved yoga. Course, I stretched so much I shook up some loose gall stones, freaked my gallbladder out, shut down my liver, inflamed my pancreas and accidently put so much strain on myself I gave my self a minor heart attack (literally). It's been exactly 5 years this week. I haven't been back.ReplyDelete
