WE INTERRUPT THIS PROGRAM FOR STATION IDENTIFICATION

Gentle Readers . . . and Maxwell,

If you're as old as I am––and I'm old––perhaps you remember when an announcer would say that a TV show had to be interrupted because of a breaking news story or simply because the TV stations had to have a chance to say, This is WIBW in Topeka, Kansas.

For now, we interrupt the story of Gwen Verdon because I have to do some stuff. It seems unhappily appropriate that we have a delay now as we reach the part of Verdon's life when she became known as Bob Fosse's wife.

Infinities of love,

Janie Junebug

Gwen Verdon, Bob Fosse, and Gwen's son Jimmy

  1. I also remember the National Anthem sign off and the test pattern. I think we were better rested back then.

  2. I hope the stuff you have to do isn't too gruelling. And will happily wait.

    1. Not at all grueling, but thank you for your concern.

  3. I remember having to use a dial to find the channels on a huge black and white console TV with giant rabbit ears. ;)

    1. Then the rabbit ears would have to be adjusted over and over to get the best picture.

  4. We never had rabbit ears because we had a big antennae on the roof. Our local stations played the Star Spangled Banner, then had the test pattern followed by snow.

    1. I recall the snow. During the National Anthem, a flag seemed to wave in the breeze.

  5. Great photo. It's interesting that the wonderful series didn't include anything about the son after Verdon left him with her parents. I had the impression he was never ever part of her life again, but obviously he was.

    1. I can't find a lot of information about him, but all of his comments about Gwen are complimentary and loving.

  6. Oh, my - doesn't her son look just like her? What a strong resemblance.

Take whatever time you need, Janie. Be well.

    1. It's pretty easy stuff. It just takes up the time I'd rather spend with you.
