THE SECOND QUESTION, PLEASE

Gentle Readers . . . and Maxwell,

When I asked about mentalpause yesterday, I mentioned that I would also have a question today.

Some of you may remember that I started writing the rough draft of a book here on my blog. It was something about Love, Laughter, and Poop. I decided to continue writing it on my own because I was afraid no one would consider publishing the book if it had already appeared on my blog.

Well, guess how much work I've done on it since then. Go ahead. Guess. I'm waiting.

Time's up!

Other than a little revising, I've done zero, zilch, nada.

I don't seem to be able to write unless I'm doing it for a specific reason, such as the Open Doors anthology or this blog.

Do you think it would be okay if I started work on the book again -- here on this blog? Will anyone ever consider publishing it if it's been on my blog? Does it matter? Cuz it can't get published unless I write it.

What say you all?

It's won't be book blog every day because I've rediscovered my ability to write about nothing, and I shall continue to do so.

Infinities of love,

Janie Junebug

  1. Why not just write it telling yurself it will go on the internet when you've done. Putting it on a blog may not be the best idea but there planty of writer sites that let you post your work as you do it. Just an opinion... Whatever y9ou do - just write it!!!

    1. I'm not good at fooling myself like that. I think Megan's idea of posting snippets is a good one. Also, I'll just post first drafts, not finished drafts.

  2. Well it won't get finished, much less published, if you don't. Until then, it is just a dust catcher.

  4. Well, as you know I've not been blogging for very long, and your blog was one of the first I followed, so of course I'd love to read it on here!
You can always post snippets of it if you don't want to do the whole thing, But I'd love to take a peek at it...as I'm sure lots of others would too.

    Blessings.

  6. I have no idea how the publishing world works with blogs. I do know that some of our blogger friends are publishing book directly from their blogs. If you haven't written anything on your own, perhaps sharing it with all of us, your blogger friends, getting comments and so on would really help. Thank you for your kind comments on my Samson trauma. I feel better today.

  7. I think you need to go with what works for you and we've already determined what works for you and what doesn't. If the only chance this book has of getting published is to write it on your blog, I say go with it. Post away my dear!! Do not be afraid!! Let the feedback you get here be the fire that pushes you through the difficult parts of the forest!

  8. When your book gets published, I hope you'll autograph my copy! If you're concerned about your book being on Blogger first, maybe write it in a private blog? And only let readers that you trust have access to it. That way, you can get constructive criticism, and the motivation to write it, but you don't have to worry about your book being completely available online with no way to supervise it. Just a thought.

    1. I had a private blog for a while. People had a tough time getting to it. I don't know if it's worth the trouble, but if writing the book in this public space turns out to be a problem, I probably will introduce a second private blog, as you suggest. And yes, I will autograph copies for everyone.

  9. Your ability to write about nothing is surpassed only by the amount you have written about something. I'll let you figure that out.

    Blessings and Bear hugs.

  10. I'd say--whatever gets you writing. I know people who have self-published things they wrote online. How the publishing world works when it comes to blogs, I don't know. But I do know that the publishing world is difficult to break into, anyways. So, I'd say--write because you love to write...wherever you are motivated to write. Whether you just post snippets or however you decide to do it, I love to read it. :) :)
