SICK WEEKEND: SO SORRY

Dear ones . . . and godless heathens,

I'm sorry, but MOVIE WEEKEND is taking a little break because Mama don't feel so good.

I look forward to the Academy Awards on Sunday night.

I'm not all caught up in what people wear and who wins. I usually enjoy the opening monologue. Doogie Howser has proven himself an excellent host on multiple occasions. I like it when he sings and dances because he's a true Broadway star.

I haven't seen most of the movies that are nominated. I haven't seen hardly any movies that are nominated. But here's what I think about Sunday night:

  • I saw Boyhood and loved it, but I've heard great things about Birdman.
  • I don't know who should win the acting awards, except that Patricia Arquette should win for "Boyhood." Pundits seem to think that's a lock.
  • I saw The Grand Budapest Hotel. I don't know if it will win anything. I like Wes Anderson, but I wish the Academy had showered him with awards for The Royal Tennenbaums. They didn't really seem to notice him till this year.
  • Saw Maleficent. Minor nomination or two. Angelina, you know I adore you, but I wasn't that crazy about the movie.
  • Finding Vivian Maier is nominated for best feature length documentary. Don't know if it deserves to win, but it's a great movie.
  • When it comes to makeup and production design and all that stuff, how the heck should I know what deserves to win? For that matter, the movies that deserve the awards don't always get them.
But I'll watch Sunday night, or I'll DVR and watch on Monday, so please don't tell me what happens. Do you have any favorites that you hope will be winners?

Trying to summon up the strength to love you, but can't go as far as infinities,

Janie Junebug

  1. Hope you feel better soon. I quit watching the zillion award shows long ago.
I quit Netflix cause 98% of movies suck in my opinion.
Jist my 2 cents lol! Get better!

    1. I don't watch many awards shows, but I watch the Academy Awards because I can remember when it's on. I always forget the Screen Actors Guild and the Independent Spirit awards. I love movies. It's okay that you don't. I am tolerant.

  2. I LOVE David Niven! He was a real gentleman and so debonair. I actually remember this even though I was young. I will be watching the Oscars! I do love the dresses and wish someone would dress like Cher. I hope Boyhood does not win:) I found it a bore and really don't care that it took him 12 years to make this film. I do believe it will win best picture and Patricia Arquette will win the Oscar. I saw Birdman last night and enjoyed it but it is, what I call, artsy-fartsy. I thought this film was very unique and well acted. I loved Budapest Hotel and found Ralph Fiennes great in it (but I love him in anything). I should look back at the horrible Rob Lowe Snow White debacle for another fond memory

    1. I would like to dress like Cher. I have always adored her. I love Boyhood, and I tend to love artsy-fartsy crap. We can agree to disagree about movies. Ralph Fiennes is a wonderful actor, as is his brother Joseph. I love that Ralph is pronounced Rafe. I know someone named Ralph. Perhaps I'll start calling him Rafe. He's quite sexy.

  3. Wow. I'm so impressed with the way David handled that streaker. He remained incredibly poised and made a great quip. I wonder whatever came of (from? to? below?) that streaker.

Feel better, Janie. We love you infinities.

    1. Thank you. I don't know what became of the streaker. David Niven was always quick witted. He wrote a couple of excellent memoirs.

  4. Wow, you have been on a roll, Janie! I remember when the streaker struck the Oscars. David Niven was unflappable and witty! I'm sorry that you are under the weather. I hope it isn't that nasty cold that's been circulating around the continent over and over. This week I think I finally got clear of its clutches. It's had a hold on me since mid-December. Tomorrow is a huge day in our lives. My hubby is retiring ~ Tomorrow is his last day at work. And my last time to make a brown bag lunch for him ~ after thousands and thousands of lunches I've made since I started helping my mom make brown bag lunches when I was fourteen. I haven't seen any of the Oscar contenders because I didn't feel up to going. But I think lots of matinees are in my future, and I won't have to go alone! Feel better soon!

    1. Happy days are here again, the sky above is clear again, let us sing a song of cheer again, happy days are here again. I hope you and your husband will be very happy in retirement and find new and interesting activities and have lots of sex. Willy Dunne Wooters has the cold. For me, it's my stomach. My dad always made his own breakfast and bag lunch. One morning while waiting for the car pool to arrive, he took the dogs out with him. He set down his bag lunch to do something, and one of the dogs peed on it. Things like that make me laugh because I'm so childish.

  6. I saw Boyhood and The Imitation Game. I liked both, but am rooting for Boyhood.

    1. I love Boyhood. I'm eager to see The Imitation Game. Apparently, it's based very loosely on the facts, but I don't mind as long as I know going into it. The Hurricane was Alan Turing for Halloween. She was excellent. She pushed her hair back just like his and had a severe expression on her face.

  7. That was me/I, Janie Junebug, claiming my 15 seconds of fame!

If there's an audience to be found
    I'll be streakin' around
    Invitin' public critique

Janie, I'm getting worried about you. Please get well soon. This weekend, follow Dr. Shady's orders. Rest, keep warm and drink liquids.

The Oscars? Don't get me started! I'm hoppin' mad because the most deserving motion picture, Mars Needs Women, was snubbed and did not receive a single Academy Award nomination. In protest, I will once again be strippin' down to my birthday suit and my track shoes and crashing the live telecast. Surely Doogie will approve because...

    I ain't crude, Boogity, Boogity
    I ain't lewd, Boogity, Boogity
I'm just in the mood to run in the nude

Oh, yes, they call me the Streak

    1. Boobity Boobity. During the heady days of streaking, a young woman streaked at some government functionp in Topeka. The police arrested her and wouldn't let her put on her clothes. She had to ride naked in the police car. I guess the officers thought it was funny. I didn't. Some people would say she deserved to be embarrassed and uncomfortable. I say, I wish I had streaked when I was young and boobalicious.

  8. Grand Budapest Hotel was one of the worst movies I've seen. Can't believe they're considering giving this thing an award. Hope you feel better.

    1. It's very Wes Andersonish. Have you seen any of his other movies? He's definitely an auteur. The Royal Tennenbaums is my favorite. I don't like a couple of them, but I can't think of the names.

  10. Janie, we've received so many "infinities," surely we can allow a day or so off.(smile)
Please take care of you. That's the most important thing.

  11. Godless heathen here, but still hoping you'll be feeling better soon. Chicken soup and chocolate, it will fix you right up. Or, as my Dad used to say "It'll put hair on yer chest, and if you got too much it'll strip right off."

  12. Sorry you're not feeling well. I also enjoy watching the Oscars! The Imitation Game was an excellent movie, and I hope it wins Best Picture. It may go to an artsy movie like Birdman, which I wasn't too crazy about. Michael Keaton did give a wonderful performance though. I agree with you about Patricia Arquette. As for makeup and
costumes, they did an outstanding job in Into The Woods. Meryl Streep looked amazing. Hope you feel better soon, Janie!

    1. I like artsy stuff because I'm a pseudo intellectual. I'm fascinated by Alan Turing. I look forward to seeing The Imitation Game although it doesn't stick to the facts.

  13. Larry Crowne was the last movie we saw at the theater. We enjoy going, but we rarely do.
It's probably because the nearest one is almost 40 miles away.
    Get to feeling better girlfriend.

    1. Traffic is so bad that I don't go to the movie theater. The price is so high that I don't go to the movie theater. I don't have anyone to go with me so I don't go to the movie theater.

  14. I'm just now getting over a 7 day illness so I empathize with your sickness and hope you fee better real soon. I completely agree with your assessment of Wes Anderson. I love the Royal Tennenbaums so much they should give him a retroactive award for that movie. I also love the Life Aquatic and Moonrise Kingdom and Rushmore. I'm a fan. Hey, Wes, made a movie that is literally paint drying? Here's my $12.

    1. I support retroactive Oscars for The Royal Tenenbaums. It should win best director, best picture, best screenplay, and all the acting awards, including some that would have to be invented--like for the kid. Dudley? Is that his name? I think Ben Stiller's is great, and I'm not a Ben Stiller fan.

  15. I love "Finding Vivian Maier" too and hope it wins. Otherwise we're cheering for Benedict Cumberbatch and "The Imitation Game" in the big categories but I suspect the Academy will award the hardware to lesser efforts. *haughty sniff*

  16. Aw, Janie, don't be sick! I apologize that it is harder for me to post on the weekend, so I am late. Usually there is too much to do and Gonzo claims the desktop (it's the only time he can play games, etc.).

Hope you feel better soon! Hugs!
