Dear Hearts and Gentle People,
Happy Canada Day and Happy Fourth of July, although I hate you 4th of July with your damned, fucking fireworks.
The girls and I thank you for the kind, loving words you wrote to us following Franklin's death.
I don't think losing him really affected Princess. They behaved as if they were friendly acquaintances.
It's Penelope to whom Princess gave her heart, and it's a good thing she did because Penelope has needed her friend. She misses her big brother so much. For the first couple of weeks, Penelope spent quite a bit of time on the doggy bed that Franklin favored, but she tucked herself against a corner facing the wall. When she walked across the room where we all hang out, sometimes she broke into a plaintive cry that was painful to hear. She still cries. I'm sure Penelope hopes Franklin will come home to her the way Princess returned after her training. Penelope has perked up enough, though, that she plays with Princess a bit in the back yard and in the house.
Not much playing goes on at this time of the summer, however. We have reached the days of temperatures in the high 90s, but it "feels like" 100 something every afternoon, and we have a thunderstorm every afternoon or evening. It's too hot and humid to exert ourselves. It's Don't Move Weather, Not Unless You're Getting Some Ice Cream.
I don't feel well anyway. I still miss Franklin, too, and I have been ill. I won't provide info on the illness because it's definitely TMI kinda stuff.
The debate shocked the shit out of me because Joe Biden obviously was exhausted and not feeling well, and then the news shocked me even more when loads of assholes said he should drop out of the race! Why weren't they screaming that the felon shouldn't be allowed on a stage with POTUS? The so-called moderators were too weak to confront the criminal about the lies he told, but a lot of people were happy to go after the president because he had one bad night.
I saw something that made me feel a little better––that if Alfred can't take care of the bat cave for one night that doesn't mean you should turn it over to Joker. I think Jimmy Kimmel said that. It comforted me because it's true.
If any of you can make the fireworks go away, then please carry out your plans. You will have our thanks along with homemade cookies. .
If any of you can make donald trump go away, then . . . I guess I'll build an altar to you, a monument or something, and I'll bake a cake for you every week, whatever kind you want.
Infinities of love,
Janie Junebug, Princess, and Penelope

Poor Penelope! I'm so glad she has Princess for company. May the pain of grief lessen for you all as time goes on. ♥
ReplyDeleteWe've had a recent heat wave that was exactly like you described, with severe thunderstorms and torrential downpours. Cooler now, thank goodness, but it will ramp up again over the weekend.
There have been loud Canada Day fireworks all weekend here and Zoey isn't happy about that. At least she doesn't panic, like our Dalmatian did. Hope they take it easy for you on the 4th!
I clicked your link! LMAO!! ☺ Feel better soon!
I haven't heard any fireworks all day. It's been thundering on and off this afternoon and raining a bit. I'm amazed that people weren't shooting off their tiny penises at 8 this morning the way they usually do. If the rain and thunder stop, we'll hear a lot of ugly noise tonight and then all weekend and then for the rest of the month on the weekends. I drugged the girls so we're prepared, except someone needs to drug me.
DeleteI keep hoping for a miracle in this election year, but so far the sh#t just keeps getting worse and worse. The SCOTUS decision yesterday on immunity was so troubling, I had a bad night.
ReplyDeleteI am fed up with SCOTUS and I hate Mitch McConnell so much. Merrick Garland is a good AG, but he should have been a justice. Clarence Thomas is 76. I hope he and trump drop dead on the same day and do it quickly. Getting him off the court is especially important.
DeleteThe video DID cheer me up. Does anyone have a giant iguana? Sending hugs your way.
ReplyDeleteI watched the video again earlier this afternoon. I love how nonchalant he is about chomping on trump. Thank you for the hug.
DeleteIt's hard losing a pet, on us and on their pet friends and family. It's a process and while it never gets better, it does get easier.
ReplyDeleteAnd if you have things like that video to make you smile, that's a plus!
xoxo
Franklin isn't the first dog death I've experienced, but it's one of the hardest. I'm also really missing my kids.
DeleteWith all the stressful news recently...I haven't been feeling very well, either (TMI). SCOTUS gave him his absolute immunity. That was worse than the debate. I can hardly wait to vote...and pray.
ReplyDeleteSorry Penelope is so sad. Allie has been walking around crying out of the blue for a while, too. I don't have any idea why?
Maybe Allie cries because she knows you're upset. When I'm so sick I can't get out of the bathroom or I cry, the girls worry and fuss. Princess either goes in the bathroom with me or she sits in the hall just outside of it. It's a good thing my bathrooms are fairly big.
DeleteThat video did the trick alright, thanks Janie! I hope you feel better soon.
ReplyDeleteDebra, above all I appreciated your comment about my giving Franklin a voice. I take great pleasure in developing voices for the dogs that suit their personalities. Franklin's was I'm a dog, I know I'm a dog, I'm happy being a dog, thanks for being my friend. That's exactly who he was. Such a happy boy without a bite or a growl in him.
DeleteHow many reasons to not feel good? You count the reasons well. Losing Franklin is a sore that will ache. Allowing it to is part of the love you shared. Your health is something we all hope will improve, and please, swiftly. The rest I would try not to think about too hard because it's in the category of outside our direct sphere of influence. One can make themselves weak wading in things we can't influence. Like the heat.
ReplyDeleteI'm grateful for good, reliable air conditioning, and should I need him, Dean the AC fix it man and his sons who sometimes come in his stead. It's been a pleasure to watch his 3 boys grow up. I'm seeing doctors. I'm sure there will be tests and perhaps new prescriptions and all will be well. I will continue to miss Franklin, but the pain is not as extreme now. It will continue to ease.
DeleteI wish Trump would go away too. I simply hate him. And now with the Supreme Court's ruling yesterday I have been in a funk. This whole thing is turning into a shit show.
ReplyDeleteWouldn't it be nice if aliens finally made their appearance on Earth, sucked trump into their spaceship with a big vacuum, and took off with him? I voted for Obama, of course, but I didn't fear McCain being elected –– in spite of Sarah Palin –– the way I fear trump being elected again. And when he loses he'll say he won and make another big mess of things and they'll be better organized this time.
DeleteI wondered how you been doing!!!! I was at Mr Devices the other day...and you spot now has a place on the world map as one of the stewards of the Freakin' Green Elf Shorts.
ReplyDeleteI too don't know what will happen if the Dump gets back in. I doubt he will. Just still blows my mind that if you work in the White House you cant be a felon or have a record....but to be President...the only requirements are you have to be a natural born citizen... 35 years of age, and be a citizen for at least 14 years. What the fuck? We are a screwed up country.
I must be famous if I'm on the freakin' green elf shorts map. When the founding fathers wrote the constitution I don't think it ever occurred to them that a criminal would be in the running to be president. That's the only reason I can think of for it not being explicitly stated that the president can't be someone who has committed crimes.
DeleteTime to retrieve fireworks from the civilized world. Too bad we ever developed them in the first place.
ReplyDeleteNo kidding. The noise is horrible and a lot of people will be in hospital emergency rooms tonight with injuries from them.
DeleteOh hon, I'm so sorry about Franklin. Take gentle care. We all love you.
ReplyDeleteFireworks be damned.
Thank you, Robyn. We are gradually recovering.
DeletePoor Penelope. Good job she has Princess. Hope you'll be better soon. Grief can affect us in all sorts of ways. Love the GIF - or whatever it is! Hoping for good results for both our countries in the polls this year.
ReplyDeleteYou have important decisions coming up, too, don't you? I hope all goes well for you. I appreciate the support we get from our friends in other countries who understand how important it is to keep trump out of office. At times I wondered if adopting Princess when I did was the right thing to do and if I should have waited until after Franklin had died to bring in a new dog, but I know now that adopting her early on was definitely good for Penelope. The two of them had already bonded before Franklin had to leave us.
DeleteI am so sorry about Franklin. And I'm sorry you're not feeling well. And I'm sorry your puppies have to endure another noisy fireworks show. Here's a hug. I hope it makes you feel a little better. HUG!!!
ReplyDeleteI love you, Sherry. You're always so good to me.
DeleteOh poor Penelope, I'm glad she has Princess. I wish that man would go away too. I'm sorry you haven't been feeling well, I hope you feel much better soon.
ReplyDeleteReading your comment about Donald Trump "going away" has special resonance now! Such craziness in the news.
ReplyDeleteYour description of Penelope adjusting to the loss of Franklin is very touching. It's always hard to know what dogs are thinking but I guess grieving is a pretty demonstrative state of mind, even for a dog.
Take care of yourself and your health and stay cool! (Or as cool as possible)
Poor pup. I hope you both feel better soon.
ReplyDeleteI am so very sorry, for both you and Penelope, to hear about Franklin. I know it's such a painful loss. Sending you both hugs and hoping you are feeling better soon.
