MEET THE BEATLES WHAT? MONDAY

Gentle Readers . . . and Maxwell,

I have a series of questions for you today.

  1. Are you old enough to remember watching The Beatles the first time they were on The Ed Sullivan Show? (It was February 9, 1964.)
  2. If you saw the show, did you scream the entire time?
  3. Which Beatle is your favorite?
I was five years old when the great event occurred. I remember sitting in my little rocking chair and screaming my head off the entire time. I was probably imitating my older sisters.

I don't know why, but when I was five, Ringo was my favorite Beatle. Maybe I chose Ringo as my #1 man because no one else in our family picked him. I don't think anyone else on Earth picked him.

When I was older, I carried on a long-term love affair with Paul. I waited so long for that man to show up at my door that he became too old for me.
I suspect Paul has had a little work done.
His face is stretched pretty tight these days.
He looks more like the older guy he is in this shot.

Yes, George. You are the Beatle for me.
I'm sorry you're gone.

I was never in love with John, but I found him interesting. Yoko Oh No is even interesting as long as she doesn't sing. I admired John and Yoko's efforts to give peace a chance.
I hold my own bed-in every night and sometimes all day.

Now I think George is the man for me. He was a great songwriter who kind of got shoved aside because of the Lennon-McCartney duo. His spirituality interests me, and I love a man with a quirky sense of humor, which has been attributed to George.

Now, how 'bout you? Please share your memories of The Beatles and tell us: Which Beatle is your favorite?

Infinities of love,

Janie Junebug

  1. I too was 5 when the Beatles hit the big time.

But being a blokie, I couldn't understand the furore.

The only beetles I was interested in were the creepy, crawly kind that scared the bejeezus out of the girls.

    1. I was probably wild about the Beatles because my older sisters were. Otherwise, I would have been like any normal five year old, wondering if I could have some ice cream.

  2. After "I Want To Hold Your Hand", which we played on my portable record player on the mess decks on my ship so much you could her the B side at the same time - backward, I lost interest in them. I did watch them on Ed's show in an EM Club in Yokosuka, Japan, and though, 'They could sing off key and no one would know it because of all the screaming.' And, though I did grow it long later, I hated their hair. I was a crew cut guy until about a year after I got out of the Navy.

    1. In spite of the photos you put on your blog, I bet you actually wear your hair in a long pony tail. Yeah. You'd look good that way, baby.

    2. Not long enough for a ponytail, but it was down to my shoulders. I was working rout-sales for the Atlanta Coca Cola Bottling at the time and they were very image conscious and conservative.

  3. LOL, I wasn't even born then, but I do have the movies "Help" and "A Hard Days Night"..."Help" being my favourite, and I've watched a few docu/dramas about John Lennon, which I enjoyed.
I'm with you on George though. I think he was the good looking one, but he was very quiet.

Apparently Yoko didn't even cry when John was killed, but I've always thought her a bit on the strange side. ;)

    1. Yoko is was over on the strange side, yet I find her interesting. John certainly saw something in her. George seemed quiet, but he actually had a great sense of humor.

  4. The only one that I ever really thought was handsome was Paul. However I agree that he must have had some serious work done. :)
Have a great day Ms Jane!
    Love ya

    1. Paul was very good looking until maybe the last five years. I think he started the surgeries and injections around that time.

  5. I'v never been much of a Beatles fan... I was born in 74 so I guess I missed a lot of it. But my kids LOVE it, their music teacher's curriculum is HEAVY in Beatle music.

  6. Dear Janie, I was in the convent when the Beatles appeared on Ed Sullivan and so the first I heard of them was when some grade school students told me about them on the playground. After leaving the convent in December 1966, I listened to their music and became a fan. Of course, one of my favorite songs is John's "Imagine." But the more I've learned about George the more I've come to admire him.
    Peace.

    1. Oh, Dee, how I love "Imagine," "My Sweet Lord," "Here Comes the Sun," "Something," "While My Guitar Gently Weeps," and so many others.

  7. My mom was 4 so I wasn't even close to being in existence. We did watch the film "Help" when my sis and I were little and I thought John was the cutest but I loved Ringo's dopey personality in the film. :)

  8. I definitely remember. I was 13 years old (perfect Beatle fan age) and I was sitting on the floor to get closer to the console TV. There was no screaming whatsoever because my entire family was watching Ed Sullivan. Screaming was not allowed in our house. I had never seen The Beatles before that moment, but fell instantly in love with them...but especially with John. (Sadly, I was already intrigued by bad boys.) I was the only one I knew of who liked John. All the girls adored Paul from the get-go. I learned to love them all and, despite my John favoritism, greatly admired George's spirituality. Since watching the new documentary on George I have to say I wish I had known more about him before he was already gone.
