Gentle Readers . . . and Maxwell,
Today I announce the winner for my recent Battle of the Bands. It's
Celine Dion with twenty-one votes.
Her competitor receives a respectable thirteen votes, including my own:
Thanks for turning into a serious singer, Lady Gaga.
Now, let's enjoy a couple of other versions of La Vie En Rose.
Some of you mentioned Satchmo, so here he is:
Thank you, Louis Armstrong. That was wonderful. We miss you.
Last but never least is the woman who wrote the song and made it her signature tune: The great Edith Piaf.
Thanks for voting! I enjoyed all the battles.
Infinities of love,
Janie Junebug
One of my favorite tunes and both versions often play in my mind as I drive my blood runs. May this week be a wonderful one for you. :-)
ReplyDeletePut on a bandage and stop the blood from running! At least slow it to a walk.
DeleteHi, Janie Junebug! Thanks for reporting the results of your latest band battle. Many people voted and it was a relatively close contest. I know I speak for the great silent majority of my fellow Americans when I tell you I am pleased as punch that Celine "Runaround Sue" Dion emerged victorious. (Last night I emerged from my closet Victor Victoria.)
ReplyDeleteEdith's operatic original tops them all.
Happy Tuesday, dear friend Janie!
Runaround Sue--that's too funny. I love the movie Victor Victoria. We also saw the show on Broadway with second row seats--close enough to see how beautiful Julie Andrews is.
DeleteYay, Celine! The crowd goes wild!
ReplyDeleteI'm also a fan of the Edith Piaf version; it always reminds me of an old movie.
La Vie En Janie...
I like the movie about Edith Piaf that stars Marion Cotillard. Of course, The Hurricane has to show off and watch French movies without needing the subtitles.
DeleteNo one will ever sing that song better than La Grande Dame Piaf.
ReplyDeleteAgreed.
DeleteIt would have been the wonderful Piaf, had I been here in time to vote.
ReplyDeleteI understand, Inger, but she wasn't one of the contenders because she would have run away with it.
DeleteI don't have a favorite in this one.
ReplyDeleteOkay.
DeleteYes, this was a very respectable Battle, JANIE.
ReplyDeleteThat Satchmo trumpet... no words for it.

You do print this out and mail it to Celine letting her know she won, right? How else will she know what a prestigious triumph she has achieved?
ReplyDeleteShe should be grateful that I allowed her to compete.
DeleteI do love your battles!!!!! Next will be movie fight scenes!
ReplyDeleteHow about Fight Club?
DeleteI like Satchmo. My favorite song of his is, It's a Wonderful World.
ReplyDeleteOh, yes, that's beautiful.
DeleteIt's a great song, no matter who sings it. I've never been a Celine Dion fan but did think her version was smoother. As for Lady Gaga, she is an exceptionally talented vocalist to be sure. It's all the silly accoutrements that are off-putting, to me.
ReplyDeleteI think Lady Gaga is starting to back off some from the foolishness and show the world what a powerful voice she has.
DeleteWe just listened to a Celine CD on our drive Northeast....an incredible lady, and we got to see her show in Vegas some years back. Her energy on that show was amazing.
ReplyDeleteI love to go to concerts. I don't do it very often, but that makes them even more special.
DeleteI lost because I chose Lady Gaga but Celine won fair and square. She has an incredible voice!
ReplyDeleteYou didn't lose! And Lady Gaga doesn't care. She assured me her feelings are not hurt.
DeleteJanie, love your comment to Pickleope what a hoot.
ReplyDeleteLove both Louis and Edith on today post.
cheers, parsnip
Pickleope writes great comments.
DeleteBIG THANKS for the Satchmo video!!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you enjoyed it, Madam.
DeleteI kind of thought Celine would win, even if I didn't pick her.
ReplyDeleteLada Gaga is more show, and that may have influenced a few people, for her antics in the past.
I thought it would be closer than it was.
DeleteLady Gaga is an incredibly talented singer...that song just didn't do her voice justice!
ReplyDeleteShe did very well, though, singing a great classic and doing it in French. That must have taken a lot of preparation.
DeleteA great battle for a great song. Thanks for including Louis and Edith, too.
ReplyDeleteThanks for returning to see them.
DeleteI voted for Gaga:) and I love Louis Armstrong's version which I listen to often. I also have a CD-double on Piaf. She has an amazing voice and I love that movie with Marion Cotillard.
ReplyDeleteThe movie is excellent. I should get a Piaf CD sometime. I know I'd enjoy it.
DeleteI thought I commented already. Hmmm, maybe not.
ReplyDeleteI had a feeling Celine was going to win. Lada Gaga is more show than song usually, and I think that may have swayed a few votes.
You did. I'm slow about publishing the comments because I'm so busy. Sorry about that.
DeleteYou had an excellent turn-out for that Battle. Good one.
