HARPER

Gentle Readers . . .  and Maxwell,

I am back. My blog is still called Janie Junebug's Journal, but Lola will start writing it again. The garbage men wouldn't take her, so I patched her holes and filled her with a bicycle pump. She's quite angry with me. It may take her a while to get up to speed and really start writing again.

And I know it may take a while for you to get up to speed and start reading us again. I've missed so many of you.

I entitled this post "Harper" because during the past week I have seen him trip twice while coming up the few steps to the deck.

I fear we have reached a bend in the road and have begun the gradual but inexorable slide into old age. I am so much more aware of what it is like after my experiences with Faulkner. I dread it, and I vow to savor every moment with Harp. He has begun to be so much more loving. The dog who has always been so skittish now leans against my knee and asks me to pet him.

I have reached a new path, also. I am not sure where it will take me. We'll learn together.

Infinities of love,

Janie Junebug for now, but soon -- Lola

P.S. You may still ask questions for Lola to answer on Fridays. Any questions at all. She'll start answering next week.

  1. Welcome back!! Harper is very handsome!

You said your blog is again open to the public, but I couldn't find a "follow" button. I still had to go roundabout to open it. I'd like to get it back on my Google Reader.

  2. Hi fishducky, Above the photos of the followers, you can click on the button that says "Join this site." Of course, you joined long ago. Maybe you have to join again. I clicked on everything that said it would make the blog public. Perhaps my followers aren't my followers anymore. You can be my guinea pig and click on join this site and we'll see what happens. And Harper thanks you for the compliment. I call him my brown-eyed beauty.

  3. I'm so sorry that your beloved fuzzy family member is starting to show signs of age. It's never easy. I recently had a dream about my old dog that has been dead for over 5 years and yet I still woke suddenly with a sob caught in my throat. I'm also sorry that I have been away a lot and haven't been in the blog world much. I'm getting back so you will see my face around her a lot more often...which is good because I've missed you :)
    Hugs!

  4. Thank you, Maggie. I've missed you, too. I don't like seeing grey on my friend's muzzle. His hair is -- except for the grey -- almost the same color as The Hurricane's.

  5. Yeah your back! Poor ol Harper.
He'll still be around for awhile yet. I hope anyways. The hardest thing in the world is saying goodbye to your faithful companions.

  6. Glad you're back kiddo. With so many canines in our furry family it seems that someone is always heading into old age.

I myself refuse to go into old age no matter what others say. That's why as I write this I'm wearing booty shorts and a tube top.

That's why as a courtesy to the sighted world I'm not going outside today.

  7. I clicked where you said & saw that I was already a follower, but I still couldn't get on my Google Reader. I unfollowed & tried to refollow & that made it worse. You are now off my google list completely. I can't get you back on there. Please let me know if anyone has any ideas.

  9. I've missed you, too, Maggie. I don't like seeing grey on Harper's muzzle, and I fear he'll lose muscle mass in his rear haunches the way Faulkner did. I've started him on a prescription to help his joints.

  10. Hi Mel! I think Harper has a few good years left. I just hate going down this road again. Of course, the alternative is not having furry family members, and I don't want to do that.

  11. Boomer, I really think you need to post a photo of yourself. Or maybe we should all have photos of ourselves as we blog au natural.

  12. fishducky, You're with my followers. I don't know how to get back on google reader, but I bet we'll get it all straightened out within a few days. I should have learned my lesson about making changes to my blog, which is DON'T, but I never learn.

  13. Unlike humans, our fur children don't know any other habit but giving us all their heart as they watch every move we make and acclimate their emotions to ours. It's no wonder that to lose a pet is to lose an entire world that loved only us. They deserve so much more than most of them get.

  14. Why, thank you, Mr. Rick.

lotta joy, I agree completely. They are so deserving.

  17. I'm glad you are somewhere where I can follow you. I will sign up right now and will let you know if I have any problems. I will put your blog in my sidebar too. For some reason I like to read blogs from there, where I can see my favorites easily. About old dogs.....well, I have two, one is 12 the other 13 1/2. Strangely it was, Samson, our young one who got sick, he's not even 3. He's better now, but cost us a small fortune. Angel, the 13 year old one, does exactly what she wants. She used to be a well mannered German Shepherd dog, now she's an old lady who never heard a common command, like come, sit, stay. And she's not forgotten them either, still as alert as ever. Yes, we have to keep them close and love them to pieces. I'm so glad you are public again.

  23. Thanks, Juli. I suspect I'm showing up some places because I had more than 100 hits today and received many lovely comments. I hope it's the sort of thing that just takes time to work itself out. My ads disappeared and I haven't found them yet.
