WHO? MONDAY

Gentle Readers . . .  and Maxwell,

I hesitate to use the word pet because it implies that we own the animals in our care when we all know they own us. So, instead of asking about your favorite pet, today's Who? Monday question is

Who is your favorite four-legged friend, present or past?

Notice, please, I said four legged. I do not want to hear about snakes or a crocodile you keep in your bathtub.

For those of you who have been around a while, you already know my best friend ever was my smooth collie Faulkner, who died July 27th, 2010. He was the most intelligent and sensitive person I've ever known.
I'll miss him until dementia takes away my memory, but even then, I'll have a hole in my heart.

What about you? Do you have a favorite four-legged friend?

Infinities of love,

Lola

  1. Mine was Poppy.
Our family dog for 13 years, who had to be put to sleep one christmas eve in the 90s :(

    Then recently, Benji the rabbit.
I loved him with all my heart.

  4. "but even then I'll have a hole in my heart" I LOVE this!!! My favorite friend probably has to be spotty (very creative, I know) He's the nicest, sweetest, most loving dog I've ever known. Possibly the only one who could have been ok with adopting Einstein (my cat) as a new family member

  5. Zachery - I had this cat for 13 years...since he was born (in our hallway at home). He was the runt of the litter and ended up being an 18 pound cat. Pure sweetness. He was all about being loved on and food. Very hard to lose him in 1996.

  6. I had a cat that I got when I was 3 for Christmas. She acted more like a dog as she would always come to me when I called her, even if she was being petted on someone else's lap! She lived to be 19 and I held her as she passed. That was 5 years ago and I still cry about it.

  7. I've had -- or my family has had -- more pets than I could count. Dogs, cats, skunks, horses, guinea pigs, salamanders, turtles, and so on...

I'm lucky. I'd say my favorite would be the cat I own now, Orson. And he's still with me. He's about six years old and I've had him nearly all his life.

(By the way, I can't escape the image of Fats Domino singing "Who Monday... I hate Who Monday..." Just sayin'.)

  8. Definitely my rough collie Alex and our two shelties, Amy and April. They were 3 great pets. But I don't miss the hair!!

  10. I know you don't want to hear about snakes or anything like that...I had a gecko for over 2 years. Loved my baby death. I would take him everywhere with me! RIP Mac <3 He's still the background to my phone.

  11. Oh, Maxwell, I've always known that heart of stone thing was an act. Fuck you too, sweetheart. I'm sorry you miss Shadow, but if anyone understands, it's me.

Jaya, I'm so sorry that death had to become a part of your Christmas memories.

jerzey, German shepherds are beautiful. My Harper is a smooth Collie - Malinois mix (Belgian shepherd).

Pat, No one will ever love you more than those critters do -- not to imply that a woman won't love you. It's just that dog and cat love is the best.

Punk Chopsticks, Spotty may not be the most creative name, but you make up for it by calling yourself Punk Chopsticks.

Stephanie, Zachery sounds wonderful -- all 18 lbs. of him.

    Princess, That's true love.

Mr. Fox, Orson has the perfect name, and I'm sure he's the perfect cat for you. My Harper would think he's the perfect toy to destroy.

Barb, They sound wonderful. I think I would actually miss the hair if I didn't have my boys. When Faulkner died, I gathered some of his fur and put it in an envelope.

Melynda, 170 lbs. of pure love. I like that.

Ms. Fun, I'm sure he was the coolest of geckos.

  12. All of mine have been special and loved beyond reason. But if I had to pick one, it would be Linda. She loved it dog-fashion (she was on all fours...your definition.) But she went back to her husband. Now I have real four-legged ones called Bree (a white 100 lb Great Pyrenees and Gabby, an 80 lb chocolate Lab.) They are my babies. Bree is very intelligent. I believe she really understands English. Gabby is dumb as dirt but loves to be love on. Kinda like me.

  13. I've had several pets who have left a mark on my heart. I had the same cat from the time I was about 5 until I was about 19. Buttons, dumb name I know.

Penelope is my current Labrador, my first, Korey I got when my daughter was about six. The dog that was always, always happy to have you home.

  17. My Dear Mrs. Tuna, I'm happy you've had such good experiences with the four legged.

My 2 Pesos, How many? Please tell me you're not one of those nut jobs with 200 cats pooping and peeing all over your house -- not that there's anything wrong with that if you are.

Elisa, I want to hear more. How was he like a pirate? Did he appear to wear an eye patch?

Interwebs, Excellent response. A+ for creativity.

Copyboy, We all hate to see our furry children leave us, but they make us so very happy while they're here.

  18. Thank you! Lol you, my dear wonderful blogger, have just made my day. I've sent you an email, please reply...no questions please xD I'm just trying to figure out which house is safest robbing

  19. Punk Chopsticks, I replied, but I'm scared. I have no idea how I made your day, and there is nothing to steal here. Absolutely nothing. I have nothing. And the dogs are vicious monsters.

  20. It's hard to put a favorite, it's like saying what was my favorite child. They all worm their way front and center at one time or another. My current baby is struggling to make it to her 15th year, in March. She's a dear old sold and perks up like a kid when 'her' kids come home. She's a black lab/English pointer mix and the kids that grew up with her are her babies. She actually howls and moans until they make their way into the house to greet her.
    Hugs~

  21. Fortunately, I only have two kids, so I have a favorite son and a favorite daughter. Faulkner is the dog of my life. As much as I adore every dog I've ever known, no one can ever be what Faulkner was to me.
