AT LONG LAST: ANOTHER SEASON OF DOWNTON ABBEY BEGINS

Gentle Readers . . . and Maxwell,

Downton Abbey's latest season arrived on PBS last Sunday night (Jan. 4th). I realize that the following information may come as a shock to you, so stand closer to the fainting couch: I didn't DVR the show to watch at a later time. I WATCHED IT IN REAL TIME.

Rita Pita Pan of SoulComfort's Corner and I have discusses the first episode by email. We grant it our approval. In case you haven't seen the episode yet, I have one word for you: FIRE. It's kind of like Rosebud in Citizen Cane, only not.

You'll see for yourself.

And did you catch the Downton Abbey Christmas greeting that featured George Oceans Gravity, a.k.a. Lord Hollywood? Although Christmas has come and gone, I feel it is my responsibility as royalty to force this adorable bit of hilarity on you:

The video was made to benefit a British charity.

Infinities of love,

Janie Junebug

  3. Hi, Janie Junebug! Mrs. Shady and I watched the Downton season 5 premiere and enjoyed it. We did not see or know about this hilarious two part Christmas special to benefit charity. I just watched it loved it, especially the parts with Thomas and the moment when the dowager flopped onto the floor in the presence of Clooney. I have sent the links to Mrs. Shady.

Happy Friday, dear friend Janie, and have a great weekend!

  5. Ha. I'd watch it again if they'd stick with the parody for charity.

  6. Ha ha ha - that was absolutely great! I'm a huge Downton Abbey fan, too. I'll have to show this to Hubzam when he gets home. My favorite part was when Thomas leaned forward to kiss George Clooney (and he yanks the curtain back over him). Thanks, Janie!

  7. Alas, I am one of the minions who has never watched "Downton Abbey." I know. The shame of it all. We're ordinarily not into binge viewing to catch up on a series we've missed, either, but we DID just watch all of the first season of "Madam Secretary" to catch up to date on it. Now, I guess it's one of my favorite shows on TV. Your "Downton Abbey" might very well be, too, but it isn't the kind of show Smarticus would want to watch. (His usual choice in TV programming explains how I have time to read so many books.) HA!)

  8. We never fail to watch this program. I don't know why. So many stuffy British customs, but for some reason it's insanely compelling.

  17. It just premiered in the US, but I've already watched the entire season thanks to the miracle that is the Internet. Hey PBS, why don't you air it here at the same time you air it in Britain?

And yeah, that's right, I watch it. I'm a big fan of Branson and that sneaky Mr. Barrow.

  18. I skipped this post because Philly Done Hooters and I are in the middle of Season 2 at present. Yes, I know we're fashionably late to the whole DA phenomenon. It's fabulous and we're both loving it tremendously.
