FRANKLIN FRIDAY: NO DOGGIES ON THE FURNITURE?

Hi, Every Buddy! It's me me me me me! I'm Franklin the Bordernese.

I'm sorry I haven't written to you for a while. Mom was hogging laptop. She claimed she had work to do, but how can it be work when she sits in a recliner looking at laptop all day?

Now that I have my turn again, I want to tell you another story about Faulkner, The Original Dog.

Can you believe there was a time when Mom thought that doggies shouldn't sit or take naps on the furniture? She actually thought doggies should spend their time on the floor. I guess she was kind of crazy then.

When The Original Dog came to live with Mom, she said, No furniture. But then she noticed when she came home and Faulkner greeted her, he was leaving the love seat in the family room. Before long, he headed for the love seat before she could even get out the door. He'd hop up to take a little nap while she was gone.

She knew the love seat was real comfortable, so she decided that doggies really do belong on the furniture.

Faulkner on the couch in Illinois.

Scout sitting on a chair.

Me relaxing in the recliner.

Harper on a bed.

Boy, I'm sure glad Mom figured out where doggies belong. I like to sit right next to her while she taps away on laptop.

Thanks for visiting me, Every Buddy! I missed you! I love you!

  1. Aww, Franklin, I just want to give you a scratch behind those ears---while we're sitting on a comfy sofa, of course. Hey guess what, since we last talked, I've gotten a new bunny! It's a girl named Gamgee. Gamgelina for long. Then Lina for short. What do you think of that choice for a furry friend?

    1. Hi! Hi, Miss Nicki! Uh, I'm not too sure about a bunny for a friend. Does she warn you when strangers are outside? Does she cuddle in bed at night? Does she keep you company while you work? If she doesn't do that stuff, then I think you need a doggie.

  2. Whatever was Janie thinking? Everybody knows a pet belongs on the furniture. My hubby was even worse. At one time, he was under the misconception that a dog belonged in the back yard! Perish THAT thought! Sheesh. Dogs and cats are members of the family.

    1. Wow! Your husband must be really strange, Mrs. Swo, Sow, Swoderersky. Mom is reading a book you wrote. She says it's great, even better than chocolate cake.

  4. Franklin,

Is there a doggy day bed at your house? That's what my dog cousins have used. I have no idea what they cost.

    1. Every piece of furniture in our house is a doggie day bed. HA! That's because we like to nap during the day when we aren't yelling at people who walk down our street.

  6. Yeah, Franklin. My two big dogs (both over 90 lbs each) loved the couch. But now they are too old and have arthritis and can't climb up there anymore. So enjoy the comfort while you can.

  7. Ha...we tease Eddie all the time about how he's not allowed on the furniture. Of course, he rules the furniture...

  9. Hmm, Franklin, I'm not sure I'll let Samson and Soldier read this. Just Kidding, they get on the furniture too and have actually ruined two love seats. I know you are such a good doggie, you wouldn't ever ruin anything. Have a nice weekend.

    1. Mom puts blankets on the furniture so she doesn't get it dirty. She knows we like everything clean.

  11. Franklin! I've missed you! I agree that sweet doggies should get furniture use. When I was in school and was a vet tech, we had a client with a half grown deer. The deer slept inside the house, in the bed with the lady. So if a deer gets furniture use, so should dogs.

  18. Franklin, I was thinking about this very topic today as Mr. Chewey was sleeping on my bed. It was so hot he slept most of the day away and refused to move even when I needed to make it.

    1. I'm glad Mr. Chewey stayed cool and comfortable in the house. Some peoples are so dumb they make their cats and dogs stay outside in terrible weather.
