FOUR

Gentle Readers . . . and Maxwell,

It's been four years since someone attacked me and said he was going to kill me.

I didn't even think about it until the middle of the afternoon during a meeting when we were talking about first quarter goals.

My anxiety was terrible during part of December, but I'm happy to say it's pretty much under control now.

My supervisor asked me what my career goals for this year are. I said not being fired and making her laugh, which made her laugh.

Is your 2024 off to a good start? Do you have goals/resolutions or changes you want to make in your life?

My favorite compliment at work is when a client tells me I was so worried about xxxxxx and you made it quick and easy.

What kind of compliments do you love to receive? Don't be shy! Share with us!

I don't think I told you I spent Christmas Eve with Carol and Christmas Day with Rebekah, and I'm so fortunate to have Maureen right across the street. She has come to my rescue  many times. It's a wonderful thing to have such good friends. When my anxiety was particularly bad, Rebekah came over to spend a day with me. We did a lot of my Christmas decorating together and set up my new Ring cameras. It seems nothing happens these days unless we capture it on video.

Tell me what you're up to because I care about all of you and always like to know how you are.

VOTE BLUE

Infinities of love,

Janie Junebug

  1. No goals. No resolutions. The year is off to a bad start with a sick dog and 1K in vet bills. So glad to know that you have friends you can count on when you need them. The kind of compliment I like to receive is when someone tells me that I inspired them to do something. It makes me feel like I have made a difference in the world, however small.

    1. That's a great compliment. I hope the prescription food helps Zoey. Franklin eats prescription food because he was in the beginning stages of renal failure. The food reversed it, so it's been worth it.

    2. That's good to know. The food is incredibly expensive. I'm really worried about how we are going to afford it long term.

    3. I have Franklin's food delivered by Chewy. We get a bit of a discount for having it automatically filled each month, but yes, it's expensive.

  2. As you may know I am a lifelong naturalist and among my greatest joys is leading walks and making presentations (first one of the year tomorrow). The thing I like to hear most, the best compliment people can pay me, is to say, “Thanks for that. I enjoyed it and I learned something today.”

    1. I don't know if there's anything better than being able to share your knowledge and having it appreciated. Well done, David.

  3. My resolution is to keep moving and stay alive.
I get two compliments mostly that i love to hear:
A] People say I'm nice, and
    b] People say I'm quick-witted and hilarious.

    xoxo

    1. I agree with A] and B]. Beyond that, I'd say you're very intelligent and a good writer.

  4. A good circle of friends and neighbors is a good thing to have, and that kind that truly mean it. Resolutions???My resolution is always to not make any!!! LOL!

    1. I don't make resolutions. I pretty much take life one day at a time and just keep going.

  5. Ugh, what a horrible thing to have to remember. Please be well.

    Thanks for the cartoons.

  6. I’m just finishing breakfast in my hotel in Brooklyn. Busy day with the KB coming up and I already need a nap. Four years! Sending you a bit of my heart.

  7. I decided my word for the year would be alignment. I am still not sure how I will be using it, other than to try and keep what I can keep aligned and to keep my mental state in alignment when things go off the rails (as I know happens on a recurring basis, often with a bad reaction on my part)

    1. It's difficult to keep from having a bad reaction when things go wrong. I do a little better in that area than in the past by slowing my breathing and reminding myself that somehow or other everything can be fixed. If that doesn't work, there's always the bottle of margaritas in the refrigerator.

  8. I am catching up on reading blogs as I haven't been checking over the last week. From your last post, I totally agree with your political assessments. I just don't get how Trump is polling ahead of Biden. Biden is doing a lot I think, and he acts like a president should act. It scares me to think about the election and Trump possibly winning. It makes me want to flee the country! And for this post, I LOVE the Farside!

    1. I love Far Side too and have for such a long time. I wish it hadn't ended but at least lots are available to revisit. I'm starting to learn that a lot of trump supporters have no idea that he quotes Hitler and they don't know what crimes he committed. They don't watch real news and they only listen to what he says about himself. I'd like to get out of the country if he wins, but I don't know where I'd go. I couldn't afford to move anyway. Blah.

  9. I have a couple goals that might not sound like much to other people--lol! One is to get back in the practice of spending the day between my kitchen table or the art table in the studio. Used to start the day doing my journaling at the table, but I have been so weak and feeling lousy for the past couple years that I spend the majority of my time in my big comfy chair. I used to spend the better part of the day (or good days at least) up and about more and only moved to my chair after dinner. I need to work back into that habit again. Get my back used to it again, you know?

The other thing I want to do is I have four huge fat paperback books I have been meaning to read for years. Just couldn't donate them. I have a big magnifying glass that I can use...so I want to slowly work my way through them. (I'll post a picture of them on my blog Monday.)

Well, I guess there's a third thing. I bought this 365 Days of Art book that has very simple and even silly prompts. I want to try to keep up with it this year. Eventually always working on it in the studio at the art table...so kind of a part of the first goal--lol!

Small things that turned into big things over time here with health stuff. Simple goals that are actually on the difficult side for me at the moment--lol!

Am sick with some kind of flu right now but that should be gone pretty soon. I have high hopes for 2024!

Glad you could make her laugh and you haven't been fired--ROFL! ;)
    Happy 2024, Janie!!

  10. I want to get those Ring (or is it Nest?) cameras that go on the front door. We have cameras (mostly for the dog) inside but not on the doorbell.

    1. There are Ring doorbells. I don't know about Nest. I set up one of my Ring cameras so it looks out of the front window in my living room. It can see the front door and the yard so I don't feel as if I need a doorbell camera. I linked the cameras with Alexa so she tells me when a person is detected. Most of the time the person is me.

    1. Maybe it will be better tomorrow. So often when something isn't going well, I find if I punish it by putting it in a timeout it becomes more cooperative when I return to it.
