TWO YEARS

 Gentle Readers . . . and Maxwell,

Today marks the two-year point since the attack. I haven't cried nearly as much as I did a year ago, so I think that's progress. The restraining order remains in place.

Sadly, some of the medical bills have gone to collections because companies wouldn't accept or were not bound by the law in Florida, or the companies wouldn't accept the Victim Compensation Fund settlement. They are not large sums, but I will not pay them. They aren't my responsibility.

When healthcare providers asked how I broke my jaw, my answer was always, I didn't break it. It was broken for me.

Infinities of love,

Janie Junebug

    1. Last year I had a few days when I started crying right after I woke up in the morning and only stopped when I fell asleep. This year it's more that I'm on edge emotionally, but not sobbing so it's definitely progress.

    1. I had an ambulance crew & an officer here before he attacked. They would not help me until I was actually injured.

    1. I don't worry about the bills that went to collections. It hasn't affected my credit score--so far. What bothers me is the billing departments for the healthcare providers don't know what they're supposed to do in these situations.

  6. Good for you for sticking to your guns girls!!!!! On a side note, I have a friend who work for a hospital collections. And as long as a person pays even $10 a month, they give a past, for at least the person is paying something, and most won't send to collections. But your case is different, and I probably wouldn't pay it either!!!!!

  7. What an awful anniversary. Glad you feel like you're making some progress. Appalling that insurance wouldn’t cover all expenses. I wouldn’t pay either.

    1. The insurance covered most of it. Otherwise, I would owe a lot of money. He is supposed to pay restitution. I haven't heard anything about that.
