Gentle Readers . . . and Maxwell,
Today marks the two-year point since the attack. I haven't cried nearly as much as I did a year ago, so I think that's progress. The restraining order remains in place.
Sadly, some of the medical bills have gone to collections because companies wouldn't accept or were not bound by the law in Florida, or the companies wouldn't accept the Victim Compensation Fund settlement. They are not large sums, but I will not pay them. They aren't my responsibility.
When healthcare providers asked how I broke my jaw, my answer was always, I didn't break it. It was broken for me.
Infinities of love,
Janie Junebug
Heartfelt hugs. I am so very glad that you are making progress.
ReplyDeleteLast year I had a few days when I started crying right after I woke up in the morning and only stopped when I fell asleep. This year it's more that I'm on edge emotionally, but not sobbing so it's definitely progress.
DeleteA sad anniversary indeed.
ReplyDeleteI hate using the word anniversary for sad things. I wish I could think of a better word.
DeleteStand tall my friend everyday is progress, love ya
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteYour answer speaks volumes .... loudly ... and yet people don't listen.
ReplyDeleteI had an ambulance crew & an officer here before he attacked. They would not help me until I was actually injured.
DeletePrayers and good wishes!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteOMG! I didn't realize you've got collection agencies after you for THAT!! I wouldn't pay for them either if you do not have to. Ridiculous!! You poor thing.
ReplyDeleteGod bless restraining orders. Love and hugs!!!
I don't worry about the bills that went to collections. It hasn't affected my credit score--so far. What bothers me is the billing departments for the healthcare providers don't know what they're supposed to do in these situations.
DeleteGood for you for sticking to your guns girls!!!!! On a side note, I have a friend who work for a hospital collections. And as long as a person pays even $10 a month, they give a past, for at least the person is paying something, and most won't send to collections. But your case is different, and I probably wouldn't pay it either!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI won't pay a penny.
DeleteWhat an awful anniversary. Glad you feel like you're making some progress. Appalling that insurance wouldn’t cover all expenses. I wouldn’t pay either.
ReplyDeleteThe insurance covered most of it. Otherwise, I would owe a lot of money. He is supposed to pay restitution. I haven't heard anything about that.
DeleteSo much about this to make you cry. Stick to your guns, girl! Thinking about you.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Liz.
DeleteSending you lots of hugs, dear Janie. Crying is very cleansing. Do it whenever you feel the need. xo
ReplyDeleteThat's exactly what therapists have told me. You are smart, girlfriend!
DeleteThanks, Linda. I've made a lot of progress in many ways.
