Gentle Readers . . . and Maxwell,
You're probably as surprised as I am over my December 1, 2015, Battle of the Bands, with Joan Jett and the surviving members of Nirvana v. Patti Smith.
Here's the vote count (including mine):
Joan Jett 15
Patti Smith15
If the version for which you voted didn't win, perhaps you can find some happiness in the tie, which means that both renditions won. I know I'm happy.
I realize some of you find no meaning in the lyrics. Using the analytical skills I learned as an English major, I found that I was able to interpret at least part of the song. Perhaps we'll discuss that another day.
For now, Nirvana--including Kurt Cobain--please sing us out.
Infinities of love,
Janie Junebug
Whoa! Is this a first? Well, I appreciated both versions so no disappointment here.
ReplyDeleteIt's a first for me, but I haven't participated very long.
DeleteI may have to go on You tube and check out the lyrics written down. I am not very good in understanding English poetry when it is not written down. Some of the American songs are easy for me to understand if I hear them again and again. I have heard my kids listen to this one and Nirvana is an Indian word so I always wondered about what they sang.
ReplyDeleteI have the lyrics on my blog in my post from Friday last week.
DeleteI'm kind of surprised by this outcome, but with BOTB anything can happen.

I like your attitude.
DeleteI remember sitting in my dad's fav chair eating doritos and drinking Pepsi watching this video. I thought I was so cool. Now I know the truth, you don't become cool until later in life. LOL
ReplyDeleteI'm so fucking cool I don't dare leave the house.
DeleteI don't recall a tie before. Interesting.
ReplyDeleteI created the tie, but I voted the way I always intended.
DeleteFor me, it's the song that comes to mind when I walk into my classroom and my students are a bit, shall we say, overripe. Winter time is merciful along those lines.
ReplyDeleteWhen I worked in the nursing home, a lot of the assistants were bothered by the odors. I told them to wear some cologne on their wrists and smell the cologne when the other odors overpowered them. I also suggested keeping a small bottle of cologne in a scrub pocket and squirting a little in the air, as long as it didn't land on the patient. I kept a small bottle of Johnson's baby powder in my pocket. It helped when patients were soaked with urine. It allowed me to dry them enough so I could turn them, and it had a pleasant odor.
DeleteA tie???? I didn't see that one coming at all. Wow.
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty cool so you should always expect the unexpected with me.
DeleteI'm okay with the tie. :)
ReplyDeleteIf it has your approval, then everything is cool.
DeleteI would like to hear your interpretation of the lyrics.
ReplyDeleteThat probably won't happen for a while because I want to write about it in a separate post.
DeleteNice!
ReplyDeleteI love Nirvana so bad! Looking forward to your interpretation of the lyrics of my favorite song:)
ReplyDeleteI visited your Web site. Shame on you. I would never write essays for students. They need to do their own work.
DeleteOf course, I do agree with you! However, there are a lot of working moms, foreign students, and others who need help. In most cases, we conduct a research for them, and they use this information for assignments. We strive to provide them with a good content, just like you provide your readers with great posts!:)
DeleteNo excuses. What you do is wrong. I won't publish more comments from you.
DeleteA tie was unexpected. I thought Joan and Nirvana would run away with it! Oh well, you never know. ☺ Sorry you didn't get a chance to check out my battle this time around. I'll be taking some time off and want to wish you and your family a lovely holiday season, Janie.
ReplyDeleteI thought it would be close because Patti Smith is way cool. The dogs say Merry Christmas to Debbie the Dog Lady.
DeleteI don't think ties happen very often!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great surprise! A tie (smile). I'll simply add, that I voted for the winner, here. Ha!
ReplyDeleteGood for you, Dixie Dear.
DeleteA tie! That's a darn good battle Janie! I love Patti Smith so glad she got as many votes as Joan Jett did.

Patti Smith is a great writer, too. Her memoir, Just Kids, won the National Book Award a few years ago. She has another memoir out now.
DeleteThat is an excellent battle and I did not see that coming.A tie breaker!
ReplyDeleteI created the tie because I voted for Patti, but I intended to vote for her all along.
DeleteIs it just me or does Weird Al look and sound odd in this video? It was confusing. To be honest, I thought I knew the song, but then I realized I forgot the next verse. Well, I guess it pays to rehearse. So, what are the words, anyway?
ReplyDeleteOh, never-mind.
Here we are now. Entertain us.
