IT'S BEEN A LONG DAY

Hi, Gang!

I haven't gotten around to reading your Question of the Month posts--but I hope to do so today--and I need to edit.

You see, yesterday was a long day.

Penelope would not go outside because of the men STILL working on the house next door. She and Franklin freak out when people work over there and make noise with power tools and radios. They even shout at each other.

It's too much for sensitive dogs.

For the first time, Penelope had a potty accident in the house. I needed to wash two pairs of my slippers, multiple cleaning cloths, and many towels. It wasn't pretty, but one accident in two or so weeks is quite good for a little girl who never lived inside before. Penelope didn't need my forgiveness because I wasn't angry. I sympathized. I don't like to go outside with boisterous men hanging around.

The dishwasher repairman arrived yesterday afternoon and left without repairing the dishwasher because of a misunderstanding over payment for his services (I have an extended warranty that covers certain problems, including the pump, which was the broken part). I called Lowe's and let loose my inner child; i.e., I wailed and cried because the dishwasher was broken (again), and the guy insisted I had to pay $123 for five minutes of labor, though the part was covered.

Wrong, buddy boy! Labor was covered, too. I reached the repairman, and he returned. I don't expect the repair to last. The pump is made of cheap plastic.

He also said that the dishwasher had been installed incorrectly. The drain hose wasn't where it belonged, so wash water drained from the dishwasher and then poured back in on the dishes when the cycle ended. Now I know why it was extra wet in the dishwasher. I've also had upset tummy problems for quite some time.

Makes a person wonder, don'tcha know?

Sing us out, please, Broadway babies, because when a Broadway baby says goodnight, it's early in the morning. Let's try again because after it's been a long day, we still know we're part of the brotherhood of man . . . and the even better sisterhood of women.

Infinities of love,

Janie Junebug

  1. Oh My Goodness !
The dirty water comes back in ? ? ?
No wonder your not feeling that great.
I am amazed sweet baby girl hasn't had more accidents.
Moving from a shelter to live in a Castle with a Queen and new brother can upset ones tummy.
    You take care now.

    cheers, parsnip

    1. I'm impressed by how well Penelope has done. She's skittish, but learns more each day.

    1. If the dishwasher doesn't work, I'll call Lowe's again and cry. I'll cry till they can't stand it anymore. Penelope has been fine today, though she's always a little frightened of eating her dinner.

  3. Good morning, dear Janie! I'll be toe-tapping in my sleep after listening to the videos you posted. Those were sensational performances! I'm sorry you are having problems again. I don't like the sound of men working all day with power tools any more than you and your dogs do. I hope they finish soon so that Penelope can relax and continue to settle into her new environment. I am also sorry to learn that your dishwasher troubles continue. Sometimes you need to be a squeaky wheel to get action when companies are uncooperative. I hope tomorrow is a much better day for you, dear friend!

    1. I think I was a pretty good squeaky wheel yesterday. I saw "How to Succeed" on Broadway many years ago when Matthew Broderick and Sarah Jessica Parker starred in it. It was wonderful--an experience I'll never forget, and my son still remembers it.

  6. Sorry about all the hassles, Janie. I hope the dishwasher stays fixed:) Well, dirty dishwasher water running back unto your clean dishes can explain your upset stomach.
I hope today will be better. Hang in there.

    1. Willy Dunne Wooters has had stomach problems, too. I hope truly clean dishes help us. They always looked pretty clean. They were just too wet. No doubt the water had a lot of bacteria in it.

  7. Poor Penelope. I hope she didn't feel too guilty about her accident and I hope your repair lasts!

    1. When I discovered the mess, she looked surprised rather than guilty, as if she wondered how I found it since it was in the foyer and not in the middle of a room.

  8. Our pup is a rescue, a puppy mill mama. She never saw outdoors or steps. Actually, she never saw a house. We've had her five years; she's probably ten or twelve years old. She remains a sad little thing whose purpose in life is to stay out of the way of everyone and everything, except when she thinks it's meal time.

    1. Penelope has moments when she looks quite happy, especially when Franklin kisses me, and she joins him. Today we played chase in the backyard a bit. She enjoyed it.

  10. Oh gosh I totally understand the doggie issues. Our dog is terrified of the outside even after all these years. He is a rescue dog and we think he was shot at. When men are working on the roofs he refuses to do his business and he will hide in the basement just shivering-poor guy. We tried all sorts of rescue remedies to even the Thunder shirt but to no avail. This is just who he is. I don't have a dishwasher but it's interesting what you are going through because we watched an episode of a Canadian TV Show called Marketplace talking exactly about the issue with dishwashers, fridges and stoves. If you can google the show, you should watch the episode. Hope the dishwasher will work properly now

    1. I saw that show you recommended. I think you told me about it the last time the dishwasher was broken. The repairman claimed he'd never seen these problems with a Bosch dishwasher. I said, Online are hundreds of complaints about Bosch dishwashers that stink and don't drain. He said he'd never seen these problems with a Bosch dishwasher. I said the whole thing is fucked up. That kind of shut him down.

  11. So now the dishwasher was installed incorrectly? Good grief! Cheap pump and old water backing up. And poor Penelope and Franklin dealing with noisy males. (Karma's afraid the the beeping of the construction vehicles down here on ground level, too.) What next, eh? I hope you are able to lose yourself and escape a little while editing. :)

    1. I've been so tired that everything I do is at a snail's pace. First, all that bending over the dishwasher to try to figure out what was wrong. I had to take out all the dishes and wash them by hand. Then I had to clean up all the poop--and it was a lot. And all the whining and crying I did to try to get people to fix the dishwasher really took it out of me. And that repairman dared to stand there and tell me he'd never seen such problems before with a Bosch dishwasher!

    2. I think I would have asked him when he was hired...or how long he has needed glasses--ROFL! What a day! A horrible, draining day! :(

    3. I scolded him for smoking--he wasn't smoking in my house, I could smell it on him. I think he would have said that Bosch makes the best dishwashers in the world even if my dishwasher exploded and killed everyone in the neighborhood. Definitely a company guy.

    1. I've never had such trouble with an appliance before. Penelope has a hard time, but most days (when the men aren't next door) I think she's happy as she learns to enjoy running and playing outside.

  13. I wouldn't want to do my business outside with a lot of strange men around, not that I do my business outside at all, I also wouldn't want to do my business with strangers in my house either it just doesn't feel right to have workmen around while I am trying to poo...........just saying

    1. That makes me think of something sad: In many countries, such as parts of India, women have no access to toilets. They have to use a field as their bathroom. Often they go to the field at night when they aren't visible to everyone. Many are raped. One of the kindest things the world could do for women is to put in clean port-a-potties in all the places where people don't have toilets.

  15. I hate days like that. I had stomach problems from time to time. When it acts up everything else does to. You could try probiotics, a few days of those tend to get me back into feeling better. I hope your dishwasher gets fixed properly!
