THE CEPHALOPOD COFFEEHOUSE: TEN ZANY BIRDS

Gentle Readers . . . and Maxwell,

It's time for The Cephalopod Coffeehouse, hosted by The Armchair Squid.

The idea is simple: On the last Friday of each month, post about the best book you've finished over the past month while visiting other bloggers doing the same.  In this way, we'll all have the opportunity to share our thoughts with other enthusiastic readers.

My book for May is Ten Zany Birds by Sherry Ellis, who blogs at Mama Diaries.

I'm so proud of Sherry. This is the third children's book she's had published. Ten Zany Birds became available quite recently.

The illustrations by Charu Jain are adorable. Ten Zany Birds can be a book to read aloud to children, or it's a good choice for children who are learning to read. It also incorporates counting.

It begins:

Ten zany birds
singing in a tree,
dance at a party,
happy as can be.

Five with stripes.
Four with spots.
One with purple
polka dots.

As you can imagine from the description of the birds, they are cute as can be. I intend to buy this book for all the young children in my family. Guess what you're getting for Christmas, great nephews and nieces? (Good thing they don't read my blog.)

You can purchase Ten Zany Birds on Amazon at http://goo.gl/NVFM0d. Sherry very generously gave me an autographed copy of the book because I assisted with editing--not that she needed much help from me! I'm not receiving any remuneration for this review. She won't even know until sometime today (Friday) that I've written it.

To participate in The Cephalopod Coffeehouse or see the other bloggers' favorite books for this month, all you need to do is visit The Armchair Squid.

Thanks for the book, Sherry! I love you!

Happy reading!

Infinities of love,

Janie Junebug

  5. Congratulations, Sherry, and thank you, dear Janie, for putting Sherry's new children's book in the spotlight! Clearly, Sherry knows how to produce a book that will hold a child's interest. The colorful bird illustrations on the cover attract the eye and the story is a winning combination of animals, colors, numbers and rhymes.

Thank you, dear friend Janie, and have a great weekend!

    1. It's not too late to design children's books. I think you would be a good writer for children, too. The square dogs' posts make me laugh because they are kind of like something a little kid would write. Our dogs are our babies.

    2. I have one rough out about my first Scotty, Kirby. When she died I wrote about her life and sent it out as an announcement of her death. One of my friend had to read it every night to her son, he loved it that much.
Getting my act together is what I am working on.

  14. I too would buy it if I had any little ones. This small taster is delightful.

My favourite book of last month was by Amos Os, Tales of Love And Darkness; a moving, funny and thought provoking book of the author’s childhood in Jerusalem. Not for sissies.
