TULIPS & I WON'T WEAR MY HAIR JUST FOR HIM

Gentle Readers . . . and Maxwell,

Where are those tulips today?

They decided to preside over the living room.

Susie of Peaked in Junior High said in her comment yesterday that she knows who sent the tulips*. I hope she reveals the answer today.

My writing this week leads us to this song, which I hate:

That's Martha Reeves and Dusty Springfield explaining to us that if we want to get a man, then we have to do whatever he wants: "You've gotta wear your hair just for him." Bite me. If I want pink and purple hair, I'll have pink and purple hair.

Why is "love" so often associated with ownership? If my ex-husband owned me, then how could he give me away? I guess it's a lot like those people who say, That damn dawg digs holes all over the yard so we gotta git rid of him.

I love Willy Dunne Wooters, but I certainly don't own him, nor does he own me. I own my Self, including my vagina. However, Franklin owns me, and I own Franklin, because neither one of us can manage without the other.

Now here's the clue for you about the tulips. They arrived with a card that says HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BLOG MOM! REMEMBER, SADNESS AND TEARS ARE NOT ALLOWED! LOVE YOU! BLOG DAUGHTER

Who sent the tulips?

Infinities of love,

Janie Junebug

P.S. Although I adore Franklin, I can hear him rolling around in the backyard (that's because it's eighty degrees and the windows are open). I'm sure that the rolling around involves rolling in poop. I will not complain tonight because he doesn't sleep in the bed with me.

  1. Good morning, dear Janie Junebug!

It's time to salivate...uh, I mean to celebrate... 'cause

(Sung to the tune of Ace Frehley's "New York Groove")

I'm back, back in the Junebug Groove
I'm back, back in the Junebug Groove
I'm back, back in the Junebug Groove
Back in the Junebug Groove, in the Junebug Groove

Thank you for plugging my blog, Shady Dell Music & Memories, while I was away. Every time you and Cherdo are kind enough to do that it yields a flood of new subscribers.

    (BA-DUM-BUMP)

Regarding today's topic, my special friend Roscoe owns me. I have come to accept it (and kinda like it), 'nuff said.

I am now prepared to trump all your other readers, deliver the coup de grĂ¢ce and put an end to the "Who sent the tulps?" mystery once and for all. I don't even have to guess. I KNOW that it was Rachel Coleman.

Have a safe and happy weekend, dear Janie Junebug!

    1. I wanna wear my hair just for you, Shady. Shall I have pink streaks, purple streaks, or both? Shall I have a beehive or just a simply pony tail?

    2. I'm a bit alarmed that you know my full name. Props to you for knowing my last name when even most of my coworkers don't.

  2. Since I am not eligible for the contest I will comment only. Definitely no one owns me and I really dont have time for people who acts as if someone owns them and try to please them always

  4. Hi-ya/ I just read past your posts for the past week, but I'm too lazy to comment on all of 'em. Just here.

First off, a belated happy birthday to you. I hope you had a wonderful day. Judging by those beautiful flowers, I think maybe you did.

As to who sent them to you. I think I know who it is, but (ARRRRRGH!) I don't know her name. She's the lovely young lady blogger who's kinda your adopted daughter. You've written about her before, and I'm thinking she and your daughter met, and hit it off, and you even went to visit her. But doggone if I can remember her name...

    Sigh.

    Oh well. Happy weekend!

    1. You are thinking of Middle Child. She and The Hurricane did indeed have lunch together in Salt Lake City, and I visited her and her adorable children. But I have another adopted child now, too.

  5. The tulips are lovely, JJ! that song always bugged the heck out of me, even when I was very young. I decided a long, long time ago that if a guy didm;t like me for who I am, I didn't need him. A lifetime is a long time to pretend to be who you aren't! Have a great weekend!

    1. Pretending can only last so long. I watched Gone Girl yesterday. That couple couldn't continue to pretend. I don't think they could have stayed together permanently.

  6. My response to that video/song? South Pacific! "I'm gonna wash that man right outta my hair!"

  7. Is it PAPS? Is that why she's "not eligible?" The anticipation is killing me. This is why I don't read mystery novels, I can't take the drips of information so I skip to the end.

  8. Love does often seem to revolve around ownership in songs. Too bad.

  9. It seems the tulip question is being answered. Back when these gals sang the song, the inane statement in the wedding vows of "obey" were still being said. How sad is that and thankfully I have my hair for me and no one else!

  10. Was it the chick from Fifty Shades of Nay??

    1. I'm afraid I don't know who that is. How about Fifty Shades of Neigh, The Ultimate Book on Horse Care?
