CURRENT STATE OF AFFAIRS

Gentle Readers . . . and Maxwell,

one lonely tadpole
We experienced a minor miracle yesterday (minor miracle seems an oxymoron to me, though). The miracle was that it didn't rain. The water in my backyard receded a bit, but a close look at the remaining water shows the tadpoles swirling and whirling.

Take a look at the photo of one lonely tadpole and try to imagine hundreds, perhaps even thousands of the little monsters swimming in circles in my backyard.

Interestingly, the dogs pay no attention to them.

Most of the tadpoles won't have a chance to make the transition to frogs. Unless we have a massive amount of rain everyday for many days to come, the water will continue to dry up and flies will descend on the dying tadpoles, covering them as they scream in horror.

Then the tadpoles will be gone.

The really good news is that I no longer look like this:

The frogs are quiet now. Perhaps it's because they're too busy creating tadpoles. I'm grateful they aren't yammering anymore. When they chanted, "Attack the Earth," they went too far.

It's so much easier to sleep without heavy rain and croaking frogs.

Tomorrow, I'll present a question and answer Friday. Juli asked the question, and I have the answer. I'm surprised more of you don't ask me questions. After all, I am the most interesting person I know.

Of course, I only know two or three other people.

After a short period of feeling pretty good, I'm experiencing the blues again. I hope they don't last too long. I'm back to the perp walk -- that kind of bent over move because the troubles of the world are on my shoulders and my feet can't leave the ground and my head hangs low.

My posts may be sporadic during the next couple of weeks. I have ordered a number of books I want to read and review. Most of the authors are our beloved blogger friends. I look forward to lots of reading and then writing reviews full of praise.

Infinities of love,

Janie Junebug

P.S. No tengo cucarachas.

  1. Me--I'd be out there trying to rescue the tadpoles. Honestly, I would. I feel badly for the poor things. I can see me buying a kids' swimming pool and fish food or something... ;)
I hope your mood lifts. Life is too short. :):)
    *hugs*

    1. Rita, every backyard in my neighborhood is full of tadpoles. And it looks like rain now! I think the tadpoles will be fine. Oh boy!

  2. We had a couple of good rains this week and Judy found Mr. Frog on our deck. He set there for two days and only moved about three feet. The dogs only smelled him/her and left it alone. Don't know where he/she went, but when the rains stopped, it was gone.
And I love to sleep with the sound of rain and critter sounds outside. Love it.

    1. The sound of the rain makes me nervous because I'm afraid the roof will leak.

  3. It is pretty cool to be reminded of third, fourth, fifth grade science lessons about tadpoles and the wonder of how such creatures can turn into something much more advanced.

It also kinda gives hope that we, as people in our everyday lives, will turn into the most advanced version of ourselves that we wish to be.

    1. I guess frogs don't soothe me because they sound as if they are in the house. When I lived in Illinois, the howling of the coyotes didn't bother me at all.

  5. The dogs have better things to eat and play with.

I'm glad for the rain we're getting where I live because there was hardly any snow last winter.

When the books arrive, have fun reading and reviewing them.

    1. The dogs have each other to play with, and sometimes they find some unusual poop to eat.

  6. I'm relieved. When I first saw the photo I thought "Oh oh. Sperm...and she's pregnant."

Congratulations on it being a tadpole.

    1. Thank you, lotta joy. I'm naming my new baby . . . well, I don't know if my baby is a he or a she so it's kinda hard to choose a name. And if I ever announce a pregnancy here, it will be because someone is giving me a grandchild.

  7. This comment is from Padded Cell Princess Maggie. Maggie, for some reason I couldn't publish your comment, so I had to copy and paste.

I think all the loud frogs were probably the ones making tadpoles and now they are all sitting back and enjoying the lack of precipitation so they can actually light their little cigarettes and relax. It's funny how the noises that can zonk me to sleep instantly are rain and frogs. My parent's house was so loud with frogs, that I could drive up to the house and hear them as I was driving.
I have a question for you: What position do you usually sleep in?

    1. Maggie Pie, Cigarettes, huh? Do you and your adored husband light up every night? Do you think frogs mate for life like Branden and Maggie? I appreciate your question, and I look forward to answering.

  8. Wow, I forgot how powerful Streisand was in that performance. I’m not a fan of tadpoles or frogs and glad we don’t have any around here. We have Buick-sized spiders and that’s quite enough, thank you.

I hope you’re feeling better soon, Janie, and that reading lots of good books helps alleviate your blues. :)

  9. Dear Janie, I'm sorry to learn that your spirits are hovering low. When that happens, all our energy seems to seep away and just being alive seems all we can pull off. But please know that those of us who have come to know you through your blog are hoping for the best for you. And I, personally, as encouraging you to be good to yourself. Be gracious. And be patient as you reach for the stars.
    Peace.
