WHAT? MONDAY

Greetings boys and girls,

The past few months have been filled with even more turmoil than I usually experience. Of course, I know I'm not the only one who has to deal with problems.

So my What? Monday question is
What helps you find peace of mind?

For some people it's church and prayer. For others, it's yoga. And for a lot of folks, it's venting and venting and venting some more.

I was extremely upset last week when I learned my father-in-law had a heart attack and subsequently, passed away. I burst into tears or wept quietly several times every day. I feel calmer now.

I have found peace of mind through a variety of blessings. First, I prayed a lot; second, I wrote about how I felt; third, I had the support of many friends, including you, dear readers. Toward the end of the week, a close friend was so sympathetic and supportive that I finally started to feel better. Intellectually, I knew my father-in-law was in Heaven. Now I also know it emotionally.

But what about you?
What helps you find peace of mind?

Infinities of love,

Janie Junebug

This week's Thursday guest postess will be Charlotte Martin. Charlotte is not a blogger. She is a singer/songwriter. I'm pleased to be able to call her my friend.

  1. I find peace of mind talking (& venting) with my friends, whether in person, on the phone or online. Some of my friends I've never even met in person!

  4. Sorry I have not visited your blog for a while and saw that so much has happened since I visited last. Your father in law's death, your friend operation etc. Sorry to hear about both. Tried to grab button but was not giving me the html script to post in my side bar.

  5. Oh my goodness! I'm so sorry your father-in-law passed away! I'll continue praying for you and your mother-in-law; that is so sad.
We have dealt with some pretty low moments over here and the thing that got us through was to actually just start praising God for all that he has done for us. He already knew our stresses, needs, and heartaches so praying for them just made them more prominent in our minds and caused us more heaviness. We finally took a different approach by praising instead of asking and were amazed at how quickly our hearts and lives changed! Now when we start to hit lows, we hit back with joy and gratefulness. It's not always easy but I find it gets easier the more you try. Hugs to you Janie!!

  6. Good question. I'm aware most of the time of having a deep sense of inner peace, and with it usually comes joy and contentment, but as to where exactly it came from? Maybe from surviving a lot of crap, from persevering, and from simply living long enough to put things into their proper perspective. Do I still have iffy days? Sure, once in a while. But even when things are crappy, I know the crap will pass and the peace will return. So no real angst or drama queen stuff. Ergo, equilibrium. And peace.

  7. PAPS, I'm sorry I don't have the html with the button. I just copied and pasted it onto the post. Thanks for visiting. Isn't it amazing that life can change so quickly?

  8. Maggie, I think your approach is brilliant. I wish I had thought of it. I think I'm coping better now with the loss of my father-in-law, but my mother-in-law must be in great pain. I'm resigned to not being able to go to the funeral. I sent my mother-in-law a card today and the kids and I made a donation in honor of my father-in-law. I'm trying to be positive and grateful that he lived to be 80. I'm sure my in-laws realized they would not be here forever, but they have eternal life in Heaven.
