Gentle Readers . . . and Maxwell,
We have a winner, and it's the man who wrote, arranged, and first recorded Darling Nikki--Prince himself.
Here's out the vote turned out:
Prince 10
Foo Fighters 4
I've never been a big Prince fan, though I've come to appreciate him more as I grow older. My favorite Prince moment occurred in 1997 when Bryant Gumbel left Today. One of the celebrities who arrived to pay tribute to Gumbel was Prince--AND he was dressed as Bryant Gumbel. It was hilarious. As is typical with Prince, I can't find a good video of the event. I had a link that showed a little of Prince's arrival, but the video has disappeared. Another one doesn't have audio. Prince interviewed by Matt Lauer can't be embedded, so I'm sorry, but I can't show you His Purpleness. If you look around a bit on YouTube, you might find something with Prince that you can watch.
I need to take a little blogging break because I have a million and one things to do, but I'll hang around to pay some visits. I'll certainly blog again by March 1 for Battle of the Bands.
Infinities of love,
Janie Junebug
I would expect no less from a man who had a professionally taken passport photo.
ReplyDeleteAnd good luck to you! May you slay at least 999,999 of your million-and-one tasks.
Thank you. I'm sure I'll accomplish everything with the assistance of Lord Franklin and Lady Penelope.
DeleteI voted too late. :D I do like Prince, I do like his style, but I also like the Foo Fighters. Hard to pick!
ReplyDeleteI didn't bother to vote this time. I like Prince, but don't like Cee Lo Green. I like Foo Fighters.
DeleteI wish that photo was found because I can't picture Prince dressed as anything other than Prince.
ReplyDeleteIt was a great TV moment. Bryant Gumbel didn't know Prince would be on the show. Prince came out wearing glasses and looking kind of nerdy. He wore a tan suit, I think. It still had the price tag on it. He played Raspberry Beret, and something else, I think. Prince must spend a lot of money to keep everything he's in off YouTube, or to wipe out the audio.
DeleteEnjoy the break. I am a Foo fighters fan myself, but I can respect Prince.
ReplyDeleteDave Grohl is quite talented.
DeleteI can't say I'm a huge Prince fan, but congratulations to him on winning the battle.
ReplyDeleteHope you get everything done!
I won't. I never do.
DeleteHave a nice blogging break! Get all those things done! Also, I completely missed getting to your battle, ugh :(
ReplyDeleteI didn't get much done, but I spent a lot of time with my son. That was better than getting things done.
DeleteYea, I picked the winner.
ReplyDeleteHave a great blog siesta.
We all need to from time to time. I may be in need soon.
I'm taking off April while the A to Z-ers do their thing.
DeleteHey Janie,
ReplyDeleteYep, finally and yay, here I am! Bonus points for me for commenting at three in the morning. Thank you.
Prince over the Foo Fighters! Good grief!
In the meantime, have a nice break while I desperately try to keep the blogging world going in your absence.
Gary
I'm back, Gary, and you must have kept the blogging world going because it's still here.
DeleteYes you are! I did my bestest to keep the blogging world going in your absence. Bonus points for me responding at almost three in the morning from this side of the swamp!
DeleteGo to bed, buddy! It's midnight, and I haven't eaten any supper. I need to fix something simple and go to bed myself. How I wish Franklin and Penelope would sleep with me. I wouldn't mind washing my sheets every day if those two fuzz balls would join me.
DeleteThere are some Prince songs that I like - glad he won!
ReplyDeleteBest of luck getting your work stuff done. Will we see you in the March battle?
I should be back on March 1.
DeleteJanie, I figured Prince would win. I voted for the competitor. I knew I was on the losing side, but I'm not into Prince's music. Fun battle all the same. I'll be looking forward to March 1st BoTB to see what you come up with!
ReplyDeleteSometimes I like to do a conventional BOTB. Then I like to do something completely different.
DeleteI was always a fan of Prince. He's so classy, even if my dad always said he looked like he got his fashion sense from Scarlet O'Hara and was wearing velvet drapes.
ReplyDeleteThat is hilarious. My friend Carol told he me that her son wanted to be Prince and used to wear the one curl on his forehead. That was a long time ago. It's hard to believe how long Prince has been around.
