Gentle Readers . . . and Maxwell,
I know I've written about this issue before and I know I'm preaching to the choir, but this error will be the death of me. I see it in articles from legitimate news sources. I don't think editors exist anymore. One of the reporters is going to kill your Junebug with this horrendous mistake.
Lead is not the past tense of lead. The past tense of lead is led.

Please help me continue to fight the good fight.
It doesn't help when the Idiot In Chief can't master a decent sentence. A reporter asked him about Harvard recently and he talked about Harlem. The person commenting on the video said if Barack Obama or Joe Biden had done such a thing, the Republicans would have been preparing articles of impeachment. Furthermore, when he lies, no reporter calls him out on it. They listen to him blather on. They know if they say anything they'll be banned from the White House or sued. Why can't a group of them work together to say That's not true? If I were still a reporter, nothing would have stopped me from speaking out. Of course, I was never in a position to question the president.
In my last post––written quite some time ago––I said that Princess was feeling poorly. She is fine now. She had her well-child exam with Dr. G. Everything is good except I'm embarrassed to say she gained 10 lbs. She now weighs 80 lbs. Dr. G scolded me and said he doesn't want me to bring her back a year from now weighing 90 lbs. I admitted I gave her too many treats after Penelope's death. We also didn't walk enough during the spring because I was so depressed. We have already cut back on treats. Since the loss of Penelope, Princess is more devoted to me than ever, and I am devoted to her.
Stay cool. Stay hydrated. And please remember led led led.
Infinities of love,
Janie Junebug
Yesterday he called Obama "sedatious," and the reporter on MSNBC reporting the story said to the viewers, "That's not a word."
ReplyDeleteI laughed.
xoxo
The felon quite often invents variations on words. I'm sure it pleases his base.
DeleteOh, that last meme -- hahahahahaha! I agree that there seems to be no editors anymore. Proofreaders have gone the way of the dodo too.
ReplyDeleteMy current pet peeve is the use of "shined" as the past tense of "shine" when the correct word is "shone." This drives me mental. "The sun shined" -- WTF?
Shined is correct in American English, while British English users prefer shone. I like shone, too.
DeleteYes,yes, yes! It's led. I hate that mistake with the heat of a thousand suns. And don't get me started on would of!
ReplyDeleteI HATE would of, could of. It's evidence that people don't read books/articles written in correct English.
DeleteThat's just one of many grammatical errors that make me crazy, so I know what you mean. You're right that there are fewer editors nowadays. The bar for grammatical accuracy on the Web is lower than it was in the days of print media, and no one can afford (or chooses to afford) the layers of editing that used to exist. It's frustrating for those of us who worked in that industry!
ReplyDeleteI think reporters DO try to call Donald Trump on his lies -- at least, the reporters from legitimate news outlets -- but the lies come so fast and furious that it's impossible to address them all. He talks in a waterfall of untruths and half-truths. They have to pick and choose which ones to write about.
The online reporters are in a rush to publish content and don't take time to proofread. Waterfall of untruths is a good description. He has logorrhea, which I read is often associated with brain injury.
DeleteYes! It seems to be happening more often lately. Lead instead of led! I thought for a moment I was the one who had it wrong. Pretty soon, it will be included in the OED. Great news about Princess. Don’t leed her astray.
ReplyDeleteI had a moment of panic when I first saw lead in place of led. And now you've introduced leed, which I sometimes see used in reference to the lead in a news article. I have no idea why since leed has to do with green building standards.
DeleteI have long said for Trump going to the University of Pennsylvania he's got to be one of the biggest dumb shits there is.
ReplyDeleteIt's been said he paid people to take his tests. That's the only way he could have passed. He's an idiot; furthermore, he's a lazy idiot.
DeleteI've (probably) been guilty of the lead/led travesty and much worse 😶
ReplyDeleteI make my own share of mistakes, but I hate to see errors become the norm.
DeleteOMGosh! I never see these because I am not on any social media. I have always been baffled by what Bishop Swan said. Totally boggles the mind.
ReplyDeleteGlad Princess had a good checkup. Just needs less treats--lol! ;)
Princess needs more exercise, too, but it's too hot to do more than step outside for a few minutes. Bishop Swan has it right. I do not understand the love evangelical Christians have for the felon. They show their lack of Christianity.
DeleteI am glad to read that Princess is doing better. "The felon LED his minions over a cliff."
ReplyDeleteDuring his first term, the minions followed him to their deaths from COVID.
DeleteNobody proof reads anymore! You can add "LOSE, not Loose", "Should HAVE", NOT "Should Of" to the list of annoyances led by LED. ☺ I'm glad Princess is doing well, apart from the weight issue. You seem to have that well in hand, Janie, so no worries. LMAO at "Djerko Unhinged".
ReplyDeleteI hate the lose/loose error and should of. When people go on the community NextDoor page to say they've found a lost dog, they so often say the dog is skiddish! Arrrrrrrgh!!!
