FOLLOWING BY EMAIL

Gentle Readers . . . and Maxwell,

Those of us who are blogspot bloggers have received an email saying that in June, subscribing to our blogs by email will no longer be supported.

If you rely on me to appear in your inbox, then I'm sorry, but I won't have a way to get there. You might want to click on the FOLLOWER button, or bookmark me. I hope I won't lose any of you because of this issue.

Infinities of love,

Janie Junebug

  1. Dear Janie Junebug, I've received the same counter-productive notice but am afraid to click on the "learn how" bit at the end. I've followed your excellent blog on "Google Friend Connect" for some time and hope that will not be affected. Blogger seems to be receding from its prior role as free forum of arts and information --full sentences and complete thoughts. I don't want to lose you or anybody so I guess I'll have to crank up some courage and "learn how".

    1. I clicked on learn how. The first thing we're supposed to do is click on "analyze." So I looked around my dashboard and I don't see analyze. I'll be happy to click on it if I can find it.

  2. I also got that less than helpful message. I discovered that over 1000 people receive emails about my posts. I recognised two names. I suspect these people will just have to do without my posts, and doubt that it will shatter their world.

    1. Supposedly if we download our email followers, then we'll be able to move them to whatever service replaces feedburner. But I don't know how to find my email followers. How did you do it?

    2. You need to log into feedburner. This link should take you there. https://feedburner.google.com/fb/a/myfeeds
Mind you, I did not find it helpful or intuitive.

    3. Thank you, EC. I'll try to figure it out.

  4. I got the message, too! I follow all my blogs via email! I am screwed. I am not sure what to do. I started following by email years ago because following on blogger--they kept randomly deleting all the blogs I followed and then weeks later they'd suddenly be there again so I started following by email because I was afraid of losing them. Now they're going to make sure I lose them--and them me if they follow by email. Is google trying to destroy Blogger?

    1. I remember all the problems you had with following. I sometimes think Google is out to get us.

  5. I am a "follower" so I won't lose you! I see you have almost 300 "followers"!

    1. I think most of the followers are people who quit blogging long ago but somehow remain as followers.

  6. I will still see your blog since I never bothered to do the email thing anyway!

  7. Your PSA is a good idea. I have read, though, that most "subscribers" via email are in fact just bots which is one of the reasons the gadget is being discontinued. I love the blogging memes you included and have stolen a couple for future use!

    1. Well, that's interesting. They could have at least told us.

  8. I never used any of those, I just have a list of my favorite blogs in the sidebar below my text. Then I select the 10 most recently posted blogs to show up on my blog, with the option to open all of them, which I do while I read your blogs. It's simple, but it works very well for me. Of course you must have a blog design that accomodates this.

  10. I'm just a follower, Janie. Never could stand to mess up my inbox with all those emails.

  11. I know just how you feel... I warned my readers to either bookmark or follow on twitter, since dlvrit. com will still kick posts to my twitter feed.

    1. I am old and tired and more than a wee bit stupid. I have no idea what dlvrit.com is.

    2. It reads your feed and sends it to the social media of your choice. Of course, FB chose to block it, so...

  12. I did not realize this. Thanks for sharing the info.
    Have a great weekend.

    1. If you offer following by email (feedburner), then you should have received the email. I know that's confusing. That's because I'm easily confused.

  13. I dropped the email option and added my follower button again. Funny, my old follower list was in excess of 300 people. Now I've got 6. Yay me!

    1. I saw that you added the follower button. I clicked and followed. The blogosphere has changed so much. A lot of the people we communicated with on our blogs no longer blog.

    2. Oh my...they keep screwing things up on blogger don’t they. Love the comical pieces,

    3. Since the last wave of changes I haven't been able to keep font size consistent and it does some other weird things, but now I'm able to put photos where I want them and type next to them. Some other people report the opposite situation with photos.

  14. I didn't even know there was such an option. I check my Blogger "Reading List" periodically, which is where I find new posts. Of course, I don't check it often enough, so I miss some.
I wonder if this is a general wind-down of Blogger, readying to shut it down.

  15. I've always used the follow button where bloggers provide that choice. But as you say, some only have the email option. But I've got them ALL bookmarked. It's my insurance :) I do wish things didn't change so much. I'm not good with change.

    1. Change is very difficult. I don't know how old you are, my love, but I didn't grow up with computers and cell phones. Sometimes I feel overwhelmed by all the technology in my life.
