MY MY MY CORONA

Gentle Readers . . . and Maxwell,

As I prepare this message to you, I'm waiting to see my doctor. Sore throat, body aches, fever and chills--none of it guarantees that I have COVID.

I found a chart that shows symptoms of COVID v. flu v. a cold. My symptoms line up well with the flu and yes I had a flu shot. Or maybe I feel crummy because I had a flood in my house on Sunday. It's not all cleaned up yet. I'll probably write a post about The Great Kitchen & Laundry Room Flood of 2020.

I'll get back to you with my diagnosis after the plumber deals with the cause of the flood.

And, by the way, will someone please explain to me why we're supposed to bump elbows instead of shaking hands (except for the orange catastrophe in Washington, D.C.) when we've been told to sneeze and cough into the crooks of our elbows. Does this protocol make sense to you? The virus can't spread from the elbow to the crook of the elbow?

I haven't elbow bumped anyone and don't intend to do so.

Something else ridiculous, but it's too serious to be funny or silly: No one is going to stop his Royal Assness from saying China Virus. I swear he spits up this crap and it's a not-so-secret code telling his followers to go out to attack Asian people.

I'm tired. Chris Mann, will you please sing us out?

Infinities of love,

Janie Junebug

  1. I am not flexible enough to sneeze and cough into the crook of my elbows. And will NOT elbow bump.
I do hope that you 'only' have flu - and think that is the very first time I have ever wished flu on anyone as a gesture of good will.
    Good luck.
And My Corona made me smile - many thanks.

  2. OMG! A flood AND sick!!?? Please let us know what the doctor says and if you got the flood repair done in the house. That's dreadful news, Janie!! But the video was hysterical. Where you find these things--heaven only knows. In my prayers, lady! Please let us know as soon as you're feeling up to it.

    1. A friend sent me the video. That's how I often find things. I'm not seriously ill and the plumber cleared up a bad clog in about five minutes. Now I have to find out how to get the wall behind the washing machine repaired.

  3. Hi Janie - take care and I do hope it is the flu ... and that the flood can be sorted. All the best ... Hilary

    1. Not even the flu. Just coming down with a cold. The flood waters receded and we are now washing the many towels required to soak up the water.

  4. I'm so sorry you are sick and hoping, hoping, hoping it's nothing serious. I had not been feeling well either. I had sudden digestive issues and a fever which were alarming because of reports saying that could be an early sign of C-virus and that people who were infected and who presented with digestive symptoms had a higher incidence of death. Yeah, I was scared, but I have been relatively symptom free since yesterday morning. I really didn't want to be part of the 2.5% that died for the stock market. :-/ Keep us updated on your condition. Drink lots of hot liquids. Rest. Sending virtual hugs.

  5. I've been thinking about you. Hope all went well at the doctor. If it IS, covid-19, wishing you a mild case and a speedy recovery, janiemarchbug. I hadn't heard of Chris Mann until a good friend started sharing his recent videos. I'm now a fan. Feel better fast!

  6. Well, missy you cough on the inside of your elbow
and you bump the outside. The reason to greet with the elbow is that if you did happen to bump elbows with someone with the virus you’re not likely to use the infected elbow to pick your nose or rub you eyes.
As your distance medical advisor, I predict that your allergies are the source of the problem. Of course I would prescribe three elbow bumps and call me in the morning.
And thanks for your kind words on my blog.

  7. Sorry to hear you're ill, Janie! But regardless of diagnosis, it means quarantine for 14 days, doesn't it -- or at least until it's confirmed not to be Covid-19. Are tests that readily available to you? Not in Canada. We go into quarantine for everything "just in case."

That video is hilarious, thanks! Good luck!

    1. I love the video, too. No COVID for me. Just a cold, although Rick Watson says it's allergies. He might be right.

  8. I'm sorry you are sick and of course I hope it's not this awful virus. And now the idiot wants to let people out of isolation, back to work, get the economy going. Not realizing if he does that, more people will get sick and more will die, and the economy (to him, his hotels and his reelection chances) will die with them. I hope you get you plumbing fixed, a flood does not help when you are ill.

    1. The plumber got the job done in 5 minutes and it didn't cost me my last penny. I know his orangeness is afraid that he'll be remembered for the economy tanking. He should want to be remembered for handling COVID calmly and intelligently, but that's beyond him. How I miss No Drama Obama.

  9. I'm NOT bumping elbows not because of the "cough into your elbow" thing but because as much as I enjoy Jimmy Kimmel I didn't feel there was anything organically appealing with his invention, and I don't care to be part of the virtual-viral mob.
I hope you manage your flood situation with the same can-do humor and compassion you always had.

    1. What a kind comment. I didn't think anything was very humorous while the flood waters rose, but at least I didn't panic.

  10. Well, I'm late getting here, so I see that you've just got a cold. Very happy to hear that! And the video had me laughing out loud. I suspect that we'll see a lot of these types with people at home and lots of time (and boredom) on their hands :)

  11. I'm not even sure I have a cold, Martha. Dr. Rick Watson said it's allergies and I'm starting to think he's right.

    2. I didn't need the test. My doctor tested me for strep and for flu and is certain that it's a cold. I'm starting to think it's allergies. I feel very fortunate.

  15. Being late has its advantages - I now know right away that you're feeling better instead of having to wait to find out!

So sorry about your flood. Glad that's fixed too but it sure makes a mess, doesn't it? Long ago when I was very very pregnant with our first child, the drainpipe from our washer somehow got disconnected and we had a flood. My husband used a snow shovel to scoop up as much water as he could while I sat on the basement stairs and cried. It didn't really help at all but I felt better, so my advice to you is to cry if you feel so moved.

    1. Thank you for sharing your story. If I were pregnant with my first or my tenth child, I'd probably cry, but I was tear free this time. My son came over the help. It made all the difference.

  16. Gosh, Janie. I hope you don't have COVID. Keep us posted. Also sorry to hear about your flood.
The HH just makes the 'live long and prosper' hand sign instead of shaking hands. My fingers refuse to cooperate. I've never been able to make the Vulcan sign.
Besides calling it the China Virus, you've probably heard Trump is urging everyone to go to church Easter.
YOU stay safe and get healthy.
    Hugs

    1. I do not have it. The doctor said I was coming down with a cold, but I think now that it's allergies. I've always liked the live long and prosper sign. I didn't know that Trump urged people to go to church on Easter (I doubt if he goes to church), but he's already started saying back to business as usual. I think he's afraid that he'll be remembered for the economy tanking. He's bragged so much about how great the economy is. He should be bragging about the excellent, calm way that COVID is handled. He can't do that. Well, he can, but it's a lie.

  17. I can't elbow bump in the six foot social distancing perimeter, so it's not happening.

I would wish the regular flu on you, but that can be worrisome too. Let's hope you have a cold. The common kind that goes away in a day or two.

    1. It's allergies. I have a sinus headache, but it's no big deal. You're right: if you elbow bump, then you aren't practicing social distancing.

  18. So glad it's "just a cold." I hope it's a quick one. Spring has come so early in NYC that I'm sniffling like mad. After 60+ years of allergies I know what this is. The only press conferences I watch are my governor's which are rational and calm me down -- to the degree I can be calmed. Take care and thanks so much for visiting!

    1. It's allergies. They're annoying, but that's life. Who's your governor? I'll pay you to take my governor and give me yours. I want to experience rational calm.

  19. I hope that you tested negative and that all is well. People are dropping like flies here to this disease, it's actually really scary. More and more people are getting sick around us. We live on the western, south shore of Long Island.

Please keep us updated and do not take tylenol. We were strongly advised against when showing COVID19 symptoms.

    1. Jax, did you mean avoid Tylenol or avoid ibuprofen? I've read that ibuprofen (NSAIDs, eg. Advil) should not be taken but that acetaminophen (eg. Tylenol) is okay . . .

    2. I'm fine, Jax. Thank you. As everyone's-favorite-donkey says, I have also heard that ibuprofen is problematic.
