IT'S VETERANS DAY

Dear Hearts,

It's not Veteran's Day. It's not Veterans' Day.

It's Veterans Day.

I know because I used to write it incorrectly and I've seen it with an apostrophe a number of times yesterday and today.

Now I imagine a few of you scurrying away to make corrections.

Infinities of love,

Janie Junebug

wrong, wrong, wrong

  1. Do you know that we're having recounts in Florida? They are mandated by law because the senate and governor's races were taken by such slim margins. Maybe we'll end up with a Democrat as our governor or we might send long-term Democratic Senator Bill Nelson back to D.C. This machine recount is what should have been done when George W. Bush defeated Al Gore by so few votes in Florida. It didn't happen because the Florida Secretary of State was a Bush supporter who managed to evade the law. I'm sure she had plenty of help. I'm grateful that our state is obeying the law now.

  2. Hi Janie - well I hope the true person wins.

    Veterans - thanks for that ... it's a good example ...

Let's hope we can get peace sometime soon - all the best - Hilary

  3. How I wish every day was one where veterans were cared for, and their service acknowledged, and their needs met.
I did know that Florida is having recounts. And that he who inhabits the White House is demanding they be stopped.

    1. I'm grateful that the Florida Secretary of State didn't give in to pressure.

  4. LOL ~ I'm reading the first line of your post, and I wasn't getting it. And all of a sudden I did. I didn't read any farther. I immediately raced to my post because I had the awful feeling I had inserted an apostrophe when I know I shouldn't have. Yup! More than once. Thanks for saving me, Janie!

    1. That's cute. It sounds as if you were drowning and I pulled you out of the ocean.

  5. I had to go look and see if I spelled it correctly on my blog post today. I passed! :)

I do hope at least one democrat wins, too.

    1. Can you imagine the kerfuffle if a Democrat wins?

  6. Verily, the day did not belong to one lone veteran. Those pesky apostrophes.

    1. Apostrophes are very difficult for many people.

  7. We don't celebrate Veterans Day in Canada (although we have Remembrance Day), but if we did, and if I wrote about it, I would be scurrying, too :D

  8. At least they've determined the one, correct way to write Veterans Day...

Now, if they could only make up their minds about Presidents/Presidents' Day.

    1. I didn't know it was in question. Maybe I should decide what it's supposed to be and make everyone obey my rule.

  9. Perhaps the sale is over when the first veteran makes a purchase.

    1. That must be it. It's a good thing we have you to explain it to us.

  10. It is confusing when advertising companies spell things like this wrong and because the average person often copies what they see written

    1. You're right. It's very confusing when people see something all the time and think it's correct.

  11. Just popping in to say I'm still alive, in out of the ether, or wherever blog ghosts go for a time. I've been living in Ventura, California for the past year, finally away from Las Vegas, which was harder and harder to live in as the years wore on. I like where I am, especially in having access to the Ventura College Library (I didn't live close enough to Lied Library at UNLV to be able to borrow books from there all the time, so I'm making up for it here), but am still job searching.

    How are you doing?

    1. I'm happy to hear from you, that's how I'm doing. I've wondered about you all this time. I can imagine Las Vegas being difficult. I found a job after searching for a looooong time. I'm sure it will be easier for you to find something because you aren't a couple of years away from the Senior Citizens Discount. How are Mom and Dad and Meridith? (Did I spell Meridith correctly? I haven't written her name in such a long time that I'm not sure.) Did they move with you? I'm so curious about everything you're doing.

  12. I blush to admit, I would have put the comma in. Thanks for the info;)

    1. No need to blush. If someone hadn't corrected me I'd still write it incorrectly. (Psssst! I'll whisper this: I think you mean apostrophe.)
