QUESTION OF THE MONTH: FIRST KISS

Gentle Readers . . . and Maxwell,

Michael D'Agostino has decided to continue The Question of the Month, although he won't participate himself. He's a busy, busy guy.

"When was your first kiss?" is Michael's question for November.

Ah, Michael, I think I was thirteen or fourteen. I liked a boy who had kind of long blonde hair and blue eyes. What a shock when I learned he liked me, too.

I invited him over to my house. Of course, my parents were at home. When we had a moment alone, he leaned over to kiss me. But he stuck his tongue in my mouth!

I didn't know what to do. It was my first kiss, and this boy's tongue explored my tonsils.

I think I gagged a bit before I bit his tongue. You bit me, he said.

Ahhrmuhbah, I replied.

We talked on the phone almost every evening for a few weeks. I went to his house once. The parents were not at home. His sister, older by only one or two years, sat in a circle with her group of much-older friends. They passed around a joint. Ash fell on my shirt and burned a hole in it.

I don't know how it happened, I told my eagle-eyed mother when she noticed.

Our romance was brief. He liked me more than I liked him. Besides, I still didn't know what to do with someone's tongue down my throat.

I broke up with him. We never spoke again, but I had plenty of tongues enter my mouth over the years, and I learned what to do with them.

Our class had a reunion several years ago. The list of the deceased included the boy with the long blonde hair who gave me my first kiss.

Infinities of love,

Janie Junebug

  1. 8th grade at a party. It was a spin the bottle kiss, but was kind of organized to get my then boyfriend and me to kiss.

    1. Ah, well. Perhaps you didn't have a tongue in your throat.

  4. That's a very sweet story. I don't remember my first kiss. Probably because I did a terrible job and pushed it out of my mind.

  5. My first kiss was sloppy and wet by someone a bit older who really should've been better at it. No idea whatever happened to him and I don't even remember his name.

  6. Interesting first kiss story. Was that your first joint story too? I can't exactly remember what I would legitimately call my first kiss which is another reason why I didn't do the Question of the Month this time around. And the story didn't really fit the mood of my post for today.

The tongue thing must have been a shocker for a first kiss.

    1. I'm sorry. I thought maybe she would stay with you after such a devastating loss.

  8. Awww, that's a shame. The last class reunion I attended was my tenth-year reunion, in 1984. There were already four or five people who'd died, and I never learned how, for most of them.

    1. I know how the first person who joined the deceased list left us. He was a good friend. I think he might have stuck his tongue in my mouth, too. I don't know how any of the others died. Someone from our class was accused of murder a couple of years ago. I don't know how that turned out.

  9. I was five and just started first grade. A red-headed boy named Peter walked across the room and kissed me sweetly on the lips right in the lunch line. We spent all our recess times together discussing how many kids we would have and where we would live...but it honestly felt as if we already had done it all and were just remembering. I was so comfortable with him! He felt like coming home. Don't know his last name or what happened to him. I changed to public school in third grade. We only kissed that first time...in recognition.

  10. I wonder how many from my class, grade school and high School have kicked the bucket. It's weird to think they have already gone up...or down:) My first kiss.....I was 17 and I was at a house party with 2 of my friends. There was a guy there who I had danced with a week or so before and he was skinny-no ass. Actually he looked like a stoner, with longer hair-bleccchhh. Anyhoo, at one point he took off his shirt as if he was trying to show his strength and I thought he looked like a skinny dumbnut. When I left he came out with me and kissed me-thankfully no tongue but I was nervous. I was praying he would never get my phone # and call me because i had no interest. I just wanted to know what it felt like. Let's just say the kisses got better:)

  11. Hello, dear friend. Your story is similar to my own. I was fourteen years old and in the movie theater watching War Games with Matthew Broderick. Well, I wasn't actually WITH Matthew Broderick, I was with Leo. Leo also stuck his tongue in my mouth and I didn't know what to do with it. He was either fifteen or sixteen, so a lot older and more experienced. My mother forbade me to see him. Naturally, I went on lots of bike rides that summer to meet him in the cemetery (very romantic). I don't know if he's still alive, but I'm pretty sure he went to prison for rape in his later years. He was nothing but sweet to me, however. There were no joints involved, but I think the last tongue to be shoved in my mouth belongs to the sweet new doggie we adopted. She'll be telling the world about her sweet self soon.

    Love,
    Andi

  12. My first kiss was when I was 13 and I have no idea what I saw in that particular boy. My second boyfriend was actually who I would consider my first love. Hubby was several boyfriends later but was the one that I was meant to be with.

  13. It's kinda sad you never spoke to your first kiss ever again, but it's not tragic. I spoke to mine once as an adult and felt sorry for the choices he'd made in his short life. Thanks for sharing.

    1. Ah, that's sad. I saw him occasionally in high school, but we never had any classes together. After graduation, it wasn't long before I moved away.

  14. I was in the 7th grade and my friends and I cut school to go over to HS boys house. His name was Ted. He was so cute. We all got drunk on Colt 45 and smoked some weed. I started crying and he took me into the back bedroom and we made out. I loved it. He of course, wanted more, but Iwas loving the kissing. and that was it. Nothing ever came of it -

  15. My first kiss was when I was 13. At a school dance. A boy asked me to slow dance and I accepted, even though I didn't like him. As we move around the dance floor, he kissed me and stuck his tongue down my throat. I gagged. Not just because of the kiss but because he had the most horrible breath! :)
