ROY ORBISON & LINDA RONSTADT TIE FOR THE GOLD BOTB

Gentle Readers . . . and Maxwell,

I have the results of the August 1, 2016, Battle of the Bands. The song is Blue Bayou.

It's a tie!

Roy Orbison       15

Linda Ronstadt  15

I knew it was close. I suspected it might be a tie. My son and I had lunch together. I told him about the battle. He said if he had to break the tie, he would vote for Roy Orbison.

I love Linda Ronstadt, but I agree with my son: I break the tie with a vote for the one and only Roy Orbison.

Sing us out, please, Roy, with my favorite of your songs.

Infinities of love,

Janie Junebug

Linda, you deserve your place in the Junebug sun, too. Sing for us again, please.

    1. It was a tie partway through the voting, so I knew it would be close. The tie pleased me.

  3. Wow! Great Battle!! And 31 votes (counting yours) -- that's more than I ever got in a BOTB, and I started the damn Blogfest! Not fair, not fair, not.....

    .....fair!

  4. ack !
I missed this one. I vote in another face off between Roy Orbison and Linda Ronstadt. No matter how good Linda sings it is always Roy. So much in his voice.

    cheers, parsnip

  6. Both of them are terrific singers. Well, were is a better word. Roy died and I heard Linda can't sing anymore because of Parkinson's disease. They both left a hell of a legacy.

    1. Sadly, it's "were." Linda Ronstadt can no longer sing because of Parkinson's.

    1. Yes, I saw your vote and counted it. My son helps me a lot with the battles because he knows far more about music than I do.

  8. I mean, I guess you and your son's vote counts, but you didn't make them on the blog, so in my heart of hearts, it remains a tie.

  10. Excellent battle Janie! It's so fun when it's a tie.
I love Linda's song You're No Good. She's so good!

    Have a great week Janie.

  11. Few voices can match Ray Orbison's.

  12. Not really surprised it was a tie. They were both great.
That's my favorite Roy Orbison song, as is of many folk.

Most of my friends were not happy when this song was big on the radio and I pointed out that SHE was no good, either (at least she admitted it) and I hoped the sweet guy didn't take her back.

"I broke a heart that's gentle and true
Well I broke a heart over someone like you
I'll beg his forgiveness on bended knee
I wouldn't blame him if he said to me
    You're no good..."

    1. I had no idea that some people weren't happy about the song. I love it.

    2. No, I mean they weren't happy with me bringing up that she was no good. They wanted it to be just about the bad guy, you know? LOL!

    3. Rita,
The rest of the song turns it around and she is saying the guy is no good. She is leaving the guy and telling him he is no good. Reread ALL the lyrics.

    4. The beginning and the ending are about the no good guy. Only the middle is about herself. I have read them. I have sung them. :)

    5. Thanks for explaining that to us, Rita.

  13. This is similiar to my LR battle in the fact that both these performers are so good, how could anyone be unhappy with the outcome? It's Roy! It's Linda! It's like extra gravy, man!

  14. If I had been here in time, I would have broken the tie. Roy would have been my pick. I really like his voice!

  15. My father's first wife was a nurse and nanny for Roy Orbison's children, traveling to Europe with him.

His voice in inimitable. But, I do love Linda R, too.
