Yes, the title is a pun.
My favorite shot from Mad Men has always been Betty Draper with a gun and a cigarette in her mouth, shooting her neighbor's pigeons. I don't remember what season it was, but it was pretty early on.
Oh, and she was wearing a nice nightie.
Ya don't mess around with Bets, formerly nicknamed Birdie by her first husband.
I've never gotten to watch Mad Men...probably comes on at the same time of some other show we usually watch. She is quite a dame!
ReplyDeleteIt's on Netflix Streaming, or you can rent/buy the DVDs. WDW and I love it.
DeleteThe last time I saw that show was when Joan slept with that icky guy. How long ago was that? I think I have missed at least two seasons.
ReplyDeleteProbably about two seasons ago. How come I never get rich by sleeping with an icky guy? We're down to the last few episodes, and then it's over.
DeleteNever got into this program but I know quite a few people who thought it was great.
ReplyDeleteWe think it's good except for the current season. The final episodes--so far--are not well written and don't make much sense.
DeleteIt was pigeon season, wasn't it?
ReplyDeleteYes. She cooked them and served them to Don for dinner.
DeleteYou can't fool me, Janie. That's a picture of you taken the time you caught me trespassing at Camp Junebug.
ReplyDeleteIf you obeyed the NO SHADYPASSING sign, then I wouldn't have to shoot at you.
DeleteThat's a great scene! We learn a lot about Betty in that episode.
ReplyDeleteBetty is a complex character. She's been quite cruel to Sally at times, yet she also comforts and teaches Sally.
DeleteI don't watch Mad Men and I should because I worked in advertising for a short time till I went freelance.
ReplyDeleteBut I just love this photo and from whet I have read on other sites a great scene.
I read a blog that talks about the clothes, colors and what they mean. Interesting !
cheers, parsnip
It's a creatively rich show, right down to the details.
DeleteHey Janie,
ReplyDeleteWe get Mad Men over here in England. Hell, we even get the TV show.
Gary
I want Mad Women because I am one.
DeleteLove Mad Men! That was pretty funny. Unexpectedly out of character at the time. :)
ReplyDeleteBetty was interesting until she married Henry.
DeleteI agree, Janie. I really wanted Betty and Don to continue to limp along for the good of the viewers! ;)
DeleteBetty and Don fighting and then making up was more interesting than Don getting married to Megan.
DeleteBetty has a mind of her own just when I think that she doesn't. sometimes, though, i don't get her.
ReplyDeleteShe's mentioned a few times that her mother was so beautiful, but I get the feeling there was a disconnect between the two of them. I think that's why she has difficulty relating to Sally. When Sally saw the psychiatrist, it was Betty who really wanted to talk to the maternal doctor.
DeleteWhat's not to love about a woman with a shotgun in a nightie blasting pigeons?
ReplyDeleteWell, yeah. I do that.
DeleteI loved Mad Men in the early seasons, when a lot of it was about Betty and Don and their home life back then. Once she stopped being part of the show, I started losing interest. I had a hard time caring about most of the characters on that show, to be honest. It was just a whole crew of unsympathetic characters, but for some reason in the early seasons it worked. But I seem to do that with a lot of shows--after the first few seasons, I feel like they lose something.
ReplyDeleteWilly Dunne Wooters feels the same way, whereas I seldom stop watching a show. I want to see them through to the end. Of course, I don't watch many TV shows. I prefer movies, especially documentaries. WDW and I are currently watching the final episodes of Mad Men.
DeleteOh yes!!! I remember that! I LOVED that episode. And there's some soothing music playing in the background while that's going on. I love, love, LOVE that show! First and second season are my favorites.
ReplyDeleteThe first seasons had some funny stuff that I remembered from my childhood.
DeleteThe seasons are so far apart that I don't remember this scene at all. I have to go back and binge watch the entire series...again and again and again and again. Big fan.
ReplyDeletebwahahahaha....
ReplyDeleteYou know, I want to like "Mad Men" and I've never gotten into it. I want to so baaaaddddd.....
