WHY I'M SAD

I'm sad about some friends' problems and so much of what's in the news breaks my heart. All those children--and adults--in detention centers (or concentration camps) makes me sick. Little kids are trying to take care of toddlers, who don't even have diapers. They're cold and they don't have decent food. In one of the adult centers it's so overcrowded that people can't lie down. They sit, packed in together, or they stand. It's so bad that some people stand on toilets to get out of the crowd. Then that causes problems for the people who need to use the toilets. People, especially children, are sick and even dying. I weep as I write this.

Do unto others as you would have others do unto you, Donald Trump and your minions.

  2. Donald Trump does not give a rat's ass, or anything else. We know what we have to do!

  3. If you can afford to give, I believe there are groups helping out with legal and other costs. It's so long since I saw the article on it I don't have a link, but anyone can Google "how can I help immigrants at Mexico US border" and with a little effort find a group to help. Or help someone closer to home. There are lots in need. And as Joanne says, vote the boor out!

    1. Thank you for the suggestion, dear heart. I will give money. I will try to vote him out, but I can't do it on my own. His fans worship him. Too many Democrats are running. Some of them need to get out of the way so we can focus on the candidates who are electable.

  4. I alternate between being desperately sad and ballistic with rage at our own government on very similiar issues. I think it says it all that Trump complimented our recently re-elected Prime Minister on his immigration policies. I do what I can with donations and mourn that it isn't enough.

  5. Hi Janie - any refugee has enormous challenges but deserves to be treated with dignity and respect. I wrote (exactly a year ago today) about the film 'Human Flow: Refugees on the move' made by Chinese artist and activist ... it endorses your thoughts - but across the world. It's a huge challenge - it is something we all need to help with ... Hilary

    1. Dignity and respect goes both ways.
I wonder where you live and how many illegals do you have every month surging into you city and state ? What help are you doing ? watching a movie and reading the newspaper is all well and good but what are you doing. My family is here in the trenches and it is bad.
This huge mess helped along by with Obama's do nothing policy about the overcrowding surge of illegals and No I am not a Trump supporter.
Canada is closing border it is now harder to enter and harder to stay. ToughBorder checks and hard to find jobs, not the under the table wage slashing jobs we have here. Many hispanics believe that a eTA is all they need to set up in Canada but in almost all cases they are wrong , eTA does not even grant entry. Canada makes it hard to enter and hard to stay (Reuters)

    2. Dear Parsnip,

I am very fond of you and your dogs. I enjoy your blog. However, when I write a post about how sad I am, I do not feel it is the place and time to express your anger. If you want to write about your anger, then please do so on your blog--not mine. I struggle almost constantly with depression and anxiety. I have been on disability leave from work since the first of the year because of illness. Please take your anger elsewhere so I can easily choose not to read it. My grandparents were immigrants. As someone who lives in Florida, I encounter many people who have struggled to come to the U.S. I respect these people and wish them no ill.

      Sincerely,
      Janie Junebug

  6. Our country was once able to process and absorb millions of immigrants through Ellis Island in New York, including my ancestors. They were so brave to come here, escaping poverty and war in the hopes of making a better life for themselves and their families. Those people made our country great in so many ways. How was our country once so able and organized in the early 1900's to deal with immigration then, but not now? 1. I read the article about how quickly and easily immigrants used to enter the U.S. Very interesting.

  7. As the country grew, we became smaller. This is how it feels when it comes to generosity. I must say that I still experience individual Americans as very generous.

  8. The entire situation is horrifying, Our political leaders need to stop messing around and come up with a way to handle these desperate people in a humane and caring way.

    1. No matter where you live in the U.S. (we have a lot of people in Florida who are from other countries), if the government is going to "detain" refugees, then parents should not be separated from their children. Everyone deserves a bed, a meal, and a safe return to their homes if it's possible. Many people travel to the U.S. because their lives and their children's lives are in danger where they live.

  9. I am stunned and sickened that this is going on in our country. And that they aren't allowing those children to go to relatives already living in the US. Both the children and the budget would be better off. I'm sure I'm preaching to the choir:)

  10. I am sickened by our leaders and by the decision to separate families. What heartless soulless creature came up with that? I am sorry this is affecting you so :(

  11. I'm so sorry you're sad. And the things happening to children at the border is just heartbreaking. I can't think about it too much or I'll despair.

I hope you feel better very soon.

  12. Hi Janie, I also live with depression and sometimes the world just seems too much for me. My heart is with you. And with those poor children and families being treated so abusively. No matter how one feels about immigration and border management (and U think you and I share the same social and political values), no one should be treated inhumanely. Wishing us a better world and wishing you better days.
