NOT TO WORRY

Gentle Readers . . . and Maxwell,

Tourists are being evacuated from the Keys. Later today, residents of the Keys will probably be evacuated. There's talk of evacuating Miami.

If Irma makes her way to Jacksonville, it won't be until late in the day on Sunday. Even if she dies down, she should bring enough rain to fill Lake Junebug again.

Oh, goody.

The Sunshine State is not fooling around. This is our governor, who has promised to respect Irma in the morning:

His name is Skeletor. I know I said I wouldn't make up nicknames for people without their permission, but I did not come up with this name for him. Besides, I think he knows that people call him Skeletor.

Okay. His name is really Rick Scott:

He just barely got elected.

Anyway, don't worry about us. If we're in an evacuation zone, which is not likely, Favorite Young Man will carry us all to safety.

Or at least he'll carry Penelope. She's his favorite

It's time for a Hurricane Preparation Nap now.

Infinities of love,

Janie Junebug

  1. For someone named "Skeletor" -- the "real" one, not Rick Scott -- I always thought he was too muscular.

Rick's also been compared to the Weekly World News' "Bat Boy" character, as well as Lord Voldemort.

    1. I've seen photos of him as Voldemort, but I refer to Prince Philip as Voldemort, so Rick Scott gets to be Skeletor.

    1. I've never been to the Keys, but I suspect they'll live to see another day.

  3. Stay safe and dry. As long as you stay glued to Penelope, you should be OK.

    1. Penelope is more likely to stay glued to me. She is a mama's girl.

  6. Nothing like a quick dip in Lake Junebug (except if it's inside your house)!!

    1. That's not likely to happen, she said five minutes before water poured into her house.

  7. Stay safe. If all else fails you can piggy-back Penelope to ensure that you too are carried to safety.

  8. stay safe. I don't have a nickname for our governor, the gallactically horrible Gov. Lepage, best known for saying some amazingly stupid and offensive things which have all been overshadowed of late by our ever so charming commander in chief.

    1. I bet Gov. Lepage hates being overshadowed by #45.

  9. I don't care, take care, be safe and dry.
My home was to be OK as the fire was moving away, It turned, jumped a road and came roaring up the hill we had only 5 seconds to leave.
    Be safe.

    cheers, parsnip xx

    1. It doesn't get too high around here. At least we don't live at the beaches.

  13. I just talked to another friend tonight in FL. She's hunkering down, actually afraid to leave for fear of running out of gas on the way up to Georgia, getting stuck on the highway. She thinks they'll be okay. She's just east of the middle of the state. Where are you Janie, in the state?
Praying for everyone's safety. And for Irma to die down before hitting. Or turning back out to sea. Stay safe and stick together! Keep us updated. You have lots of friends out here in the blogosphere and we worry about you! XOXO

    1. We're in Northern Florida, quite close to Georgia. We have an invitation to go to Atlanta if we need to do so.

  14. Do you have a water filter on you cold water? If not, get one at Lowes or Home Depot. Also make sure you have gas in your BBQ grill. Even if the water gets trashed you can filter and boil it. Get cans of food you can cook on the grill. Not stuff from the fridge cause you're power could be off for a while.
Or, you could pack up the dogs and get the hell out of there.

  15. Rick Scott freaks me out, I hope his hurricane preparedness plan is a lot less frightening than he is.

My sister lives near Miami, I have a bad feeling she's going to get slammed down there. Hoping for the best, for all of you. Stay safe Janie! Best of luck!

    1. Although Rick Scott is freaky, I don't think Florida fools around when it comes to hurricanes. If I lived near Miami, I would probably be on my way out of the state.

  18. A lot of people are saying "stay safe," but this is a once (hopefully) in a lifetime opportunity to take some chances. Grab some floaties, maybe a full donut, a styrofoam cooler filled with booze and once the wind passes, have a sweet floating adventure! Oh god, I'm only making with the ha-ha's because I'm really nervous for you. I hope you and everyone will be okay. At the very least, hopefully it doesn't wash all of the Florida meth into the drinking water. Ahhhh! It's the anxiety, I'm so sorry. Please be okay.

    1. We'll be fine. For now, I'm getting sick of waiting for Irma, though. I want her to get here, do her thing, and go to Georgia to die.

    2. I was literally about to write "Stay safe Janie!" til I saw Pickleope's comment above. ;)

I hear you on the waiting - it feels like we've been bracing for irma for weeks. (I'm sure it doesn't feel like that for those who needed to evacuate....but yeah.) I hope it totally peters out before it gets to you.

Psst Penelope is adorable in that pic!

    3. Penelope is always adorable, but so is Franklin. As am I. We have major adorability factor.

  19. It's now Friday evening here in California and I hope you are in Georgia by now or on your way. This is a scary looking storm and the traffic looks to be horrendeous. All the best to you and your doggies.

    1. The storm is supposed to ease up before it gets to us, Inger. We aren't under an evacuation order, and I don't want to sit in the traffic for nothing.

  20. I have been thinking of you, Janie, even if I haven't commented on your blog. I've been listening to, sometimes watching, the CNN coverage of Irma. I'm thankful that it has veered away from crowded Miami, but I have good friends in Naples. :( I hope it continues to move away from Jacksonville, but then I really don't want it to hit anyone!!! I think everyone is waiting for her to go to Georgia to die. I just heard now that it might cross Florida and head for the Atlantic! ??? I'm sure that FYM will do all he can to keep you and yours safe. Take care! Sending you a big hug!

    1. Our local meteorologists say that she'll go west, hang out over the water for a while, peter out, and be less of a storm before she gets here.

  21. He actually does look like Skeletor! Except Skeletor is cooler. At least he promised to stay in Florida during the hurricane with the other residents.

I hope you all remain safe. You are all in my thoughts and prayers during Hurricane Irma!

    1. Even though the governor is a creepy Skeletor guy whose policies, in general, annoy me, he seems to do a good job during storms. The state was well prepared for Matthew last year.
