We did not receive a direct hit from Hurricane Matthew, but he came too close for comfort.
We lost power for twelve hours. As I write this post on Sunday evening, some residents of our city remain without electricity. I'll exercise by playing pick-up-sticks in the yard.
How about some Matthew photos?
Favorite Young Man's dog, Stella, needed a nap after chasing the frogs that swam in the backyard:
This is what I did until the electricity went off. That's John Cusack in High Fidelity:
Franklin said, Please don't make me go out there, Mom.
How can I go in the yard to pee when it's so wet? Franklin wondered when Favorite Young Man picked up Franklin and deposited him on the deck:
It was difficult to see through the living room window because it was raining so hard:
Can you see that Royal River runs down the driveway?
Penelope weathered the storm behind the theater seats:
Favorite Young Man wouldn't let me take his picture. This is where he sat to read, first with the lamp on and then by flashlight:
The tree branches are a bit blurry in this shot because the wind blew them about with great force:
Hallelujah! The storm ended. For the first time in months, Lake Junebug is full:
Now accepting reservations for an autumn vacation at the lake. I shall be wealthy. My Grammatical Theme Park is funner than anything Orlando offers.
Infinities of love,
Janie Junebug
That picture of Franklin is priceless. If looks could kill.... I'm glad you are safe and sound and all is aok now. It is quite the bad storm and feel bad for the people who lost their lives and their families also
ReplyDeleteSo many people have suffered because of this storm. I have nothing to complain about.
DeletePoor Franklin, Penelope oh yes and you both too.
ReplyDeleteBut really I am so happy to hear you all are fine and now living on a lake.
cheers, parsnip
Lake Junebug was dry all summer. I missed it terribly.
DeleteHi Janie - glad you're safe and at least didn't suffer the worse of Matthew's effect. Take care ... Hilary
ReplyDeleteWe are the descendants of Viking warriors, bold and brave.
DeleteI want the metaphor suite with a balcony.
ReplyDeleteR
It's yours. It's a steal at $15,000/night.
DeleteWow. Glad you didn't get a direct hit, but still, good on you and the pups for making it through the long hours of storm and lack of power.
ReplyDeleteWe relaxed. No big deal. I grew up in the Midwest, where we always say, It could have been worse.
DeleteHappy that you are OK. Lake Junebug looks delightful.
ReplyDeleteI'm proud of my mosquito-breeding ground.
DeleteThe most funnest of all for sure! Glad you are all safe!
ReplyDeleteFun, laughs, goodest times.
DeleteNow that really is a lake in your back yard!! I am glad you were only out of power for 12 hours, though. If I was a dog I wouldn't want to go out in that lake to pee, either--LOL! I hope it subsides pretty quickly. :)
ReplyDeleteIt's going down much faster than in the past. Favorite Young Man says that drainage work has been done in my neighborhood. I don't know when or where. No one bothered to ask my permission. Unthinkable!
DeleteSo glad to hear that Matthew didn't deliver any damage to you. I bet it was hot though, with the electricity out. My parents are still here with me but they live in Wilmington NC where they got 18" of rain. We still don't know if their house sustained any damage but I think not.
ReplyDeleteI'll be taking them back home next month, which saddens me deeply...
Loved the pics, especially the one of Franklin and his snarl! :)
Have a great week. Hope you get lots of reservations for the lake vacations!

I know how happy you've been with your parents. I hope their house is okay. If it's not, then you can all turn around and go back to your house.
DeleteGlad you survived with little damage or extended hardships. We are so dry right now a great soaking would be much appreciated. (without the power loss and flooding though)
ReplyDeleteIf I could soak up my lake and send it to you, I would do so.
DeleteMy BFF moved in July to the outer banks of NC. I wondered what she would do; she's as stubborn as I am. A day before I texted to be smart and safe. She answered, they left the night before to drive north to Ohio, before they would be forced to go south in the evacuation route. They cannot get back on their island yet and she is sick about the house. I hope they find it buried only in branches, but I'm sure a lot of water is involved, too.
ReplyDeleteI hope your BFF returns to a happy, undamaged house. We had an invitation to go to Atlanta. I asked Favorite Young Man what we should do. He felt certain that we would be all right and that it would take an extra one to two hours to reach Atlanta because traffic was so bad. He was right.
DeleteTwelve hours without electricity doesn't sound fun but I am relieved to hear that you were spared from "what could of been" in Matthew's wake.
ReplyDeletePoor babies...poor Franklin and Penelope. Franklin doesn't look cheerful at all.
Glad you are safe. I hope things dry out and get back to normal.
That's the only time Franklin has ever given me such a look--I mean the photo where we went in the bathroom to dry him off. If looks could kill . . .
DeleteFunny! Although a wet dog is sad no matter what.
ReplyDeleteThe amount of rain that storm dumped was scary. We were fortunate not to flood or lose power, but Matthew did a lot of flood damage in our area.
Major rain! Loads! Plenty after a dry summer. We should be fine for months now.
DeleteGreat that you are all safe and sound!
ReplyDeleteThank you. Everybody's happy. The weather is ideal today.
DeleteAwww, I'm a sucker for sad dog faces. Mine also give me that look when it's miserable outside and they have to go out. But hey, if they want to stay in so bad, learn to use a toilet like the rest of us, I say.
ReplyDeleteGlad you and yours made it out okay!
I wish they would use the toilet, but I suppose that because he's the man of the castle, Franklin would want to stand up to pee and his aim would be bad.
DeleteIf Rick takes the Metaphor Suite, is the Analogy Annex still available?
ReplyDeleteIt is indeed. It's a little more expensive, but I'm sure you'll enjoy your stay.
DeleteThe hurricane came way too close for comfort to me, too. I also lost power for about 12 hours. My cats were all hiding in my room during the storm, the poor lil scaredy cats. lol
ReplyDeleteOur animals have it rough during storms. At least the kitties were in your room and not stuck outside.
DeleteI'm glad that you, favorite Young Man, Franklin, and John Cusack are safe and warm.
ReplyDeleteStay safe and warm, dearie.
Love.
It was beautiful today--so much cooler than October usually is.
DeleteWell, I'm so glad you are safe. I always feel for the dogs in these horrible weather conditions. Ours don't want to go out in rain, snow, or anything that inconveniences them in the least. I can't even imagine what we would be dealing with in a hurricane. Again, I'm so thankful you are safe and finally have power!
ReplyDeleteThank you. Everyone has been so kind and demonstrated such concern for us. I'm touched, and not by Donald Trump.
DeleteThe weathermen were so disappointed I could hear them crying in Tampa. They built it up so badly that even OUR gas stations ran out of gas due to all the snowbirds waiting til the last minute to hit the highway and we're just ten miles from the gulf.
ReplyDeleteI got the impression that people in the evacuation zones here did not wait till the last minute to leave, but there are always some people who think they can "ride it out" no matter how dangerous it is. When our power went out, Matthew was sixty or seventy miles away from us. We are very fortunate that he didn't continue on that path. The weather forecasters on TV do love a good storm, don't they? I suppose it helps their ratings.
DeleteI have never experienced a hurricane and hope I never do
ReplyDeleteI hope you don't, either.
DeleteI love that picture of Franklin, and I'm relieved you didn't feel the full force of Matthew. Wow. There was some F-ing alliteration in that sentence. I would love to visit Lake Junebug. Sign me up.
ReplyDelete-andi
You get a suite with a lake view of Phillie's Done Hooters puts in a new deck for me.
