It's time to announce the winner in my September 1 Battle of the Bands.
The song is Summertime. The contenders are Janis Joplin and Billie Holiday.
At first the two were neck and neck. At one point, they were tied. Then Billie pulled ahead to whip Janis's butt.
Billie Holiday 15
Janis Joplin
Gosh, Janis's vote resembles the way math nerds write 78, but I assure you, Billie won. Janis had seven votes. I crossed out the seven when I gave her my vote (she suffered from low self-esteem and I wanted to help), so now she has eight to Billie Holiday's fifteen.
Although Billie won, I request that Janis sing us out because I want to write a post one of these days about Billie and a famous song for which she was was known.
Thanks for listening and voting. I'll have another battle on September 15.
Infinities of love,
Janie Junebug
The guy in the short-sleeved white dress shirt with the skinny black tie is a younger version of our fearless leader, Mr. McCarthy.
I think this is not her best. Sorry, Janis. I wanted to help you too, but Billie was much easier on the ears. I'm sure there's something you're good at.

That's not her best rendition of Take A Piece of My You Know What, but I love the Dancing McCarthy.
DeleteI love Janis and am sorry she lost, but, like my battle, at least the opponent was formidable. Looking forward to your post about Billy!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Debbie the Doglady!
DeleteWow, I have to say I'm really surprised that Janis didn't win that one!! Waah...
ReplyDeleteLove her!
Have you ever seen the play "Love, Janis"?? It's spectacular...
Michele at Angels Bark
No, I haven't seen it. I keep hearing rumors about a Janis movie starring Amy Adams.
DeleteDifferent times. You could bring part of the audience up on stage and dance with them. Love it! (Not that I agree with the lyrics, but I do love the song.)
ReplyDeleteSame here. When we saw Bon Jovi, these thingies came out of the stage on either side so he could walk out into the audience and people actually touched him. We were up way too high for me to grab Jon.
DeleteWondering what Billie Holiday song you're going to post about. For some reason, "Strange Fruit" occurred to me.
ReplyDeletehmmmmmm . . .
DeleteWow, who knew McCarthy had such epic white dad dancing skills? Surely not I.
ReplyDeleteI'm not surprised in the least.
DeleteMay be I will check out the contest on Sept 15.
ReplyDeleteI have missed reading so many blogs. I have not commented much either. Work and commuting and then coming home and getting dinner ready, simply do not leave much time for me to read or write. I think about so many things but at the end of the day sleep is all I can think of. Hopefully, I will be able to cut my hours as the Social Security Dept. is not going to pay my monthly benefits for a few months. They want some money back from me now that I am working as I started taking my benefits at the age of sixty two. Why am I telling this to you?? So that you think twice before taking the benefits at sixty two instead of the age you are suppose to take at. I did not know that I was allowed to only earn a limited amount of money. Oh well. At least I will slow down, work less and enjoy some reading specially blogs like yours.
I appreciate the information and I'm sorry about your problems.
DeleteBillie would have gotten my vote too, even though I love Janis.
ReplyDeleteBillie and Janis thank you for liking both of them.
DeleteHey Janie,
ReplyDeleteI like both of those singers. With that, Janie, will you buy me a Mercedes Benz? Thanking you in advance.
Gary
No. My friends all drive Porsches, and you are my friend.
DeleteLOVE JANIE ~
ReplyDeleteYou know, I didn't move too bad for a chubby guy with "the White man's overbite". I was no match for Robert Barone, but still...
You may be interested to know that last Sunday I took a drive up to legendary Virginia City, Nevada. It's just about 30 minutes South of me and up the mountain.
Back in the late '60s, VA City became quite a hippie hangout and apparently for some time the Red Dog Saloon was a favorite spot of Big Brother & The Holding Company. Janis sang in there on several occasions, and some of the other big names from that day -- such as Jefferson Airplane, etc. -- also performed at the Red Dog.
Here are a couple photos for your enjoyment:

Thanks for the links. That sounds like fun. Tomorrow I'm going to get in my car to visit Brian Wilson.
DeleteInteresting.
DeleteTomorrow, we TRTers (of which your pal Doc Cherdo is a member) are going to watch the biopic about Brian Wilson titled 'LOVE AND MERCY'. Crazy minds weird-out alike.

I've watched that movie twice--the second time with my son. We like it.
DeleteI like them both, but Billie gets my vote.
ReplyDeleteI counted you in Billie's column, never fear.
DeleteA worthy battle between two musical greats!
ReplyDeleteI've heard that Janis was an amazing performer, and when she took the stage, she took the stage. It makes me wonder how to two would measure up in live performances.
ReplyDeleteI read some about Billie. Her live performances seem to have been legendary until later in her life when drug abuse took its toll on her.
DeleteI live in fear of telling you I've never been a Janice fan because you just may cut out a little piece of my heart yeah, baby.
ReplyDeleteNow, Scott Joplin? I'm all over that.

I'll buy you a Mercedes Benz. Your friends all drive Porsches.
DeleteGosh I miss another one, but I would have voted for Billie.
ReplyDeleteIt has been such a strange week.
cheers, parsnip and thehamish
Same here. I'm ready for bed.
