CYBER WHAT? MONDAY

Gentle Readers . . . and Maxwell,

So, who went shopping on Black Friday? I can't wait to hear about it.

As for me, I believe in the joy of Cyber Monday. Today's question is the following:

How much Christmas shopping do you do online and how much do you do in person? Or, do you simply say "the hell with it"?

I have reached my goal of doing 100 percent of my shopping online. But this year, I didn't even wait for Cyber Monday. I started watching for interesting Christmas presents a couple of months ago. I've gotten some great ideas from Groupon.

If you haven't heard of it yet, Groupon offers deals on jewelry, dining, clothes, toys -- all sorts of stuff. And it's partly customized for the area in which you live. I've gotten local restaurant deals from them a couple of times, including $20 worth of food for $10. For a restaurant groupon, you make the purchase from groupon and then print out a coupon type thingy and take it to the restaurant with you. Other purchases are usually online orders. Pick out what you want, and it arrives in the mail.

I have yet to be disappointed in a groupon purchase. Go to groupon.com to sign up for groupon deliveries. They send you emails with daily deals.

I also love shopping with Amazon.com. Did you know that you can buy an Amazon gift card for as little as 15 cents? Who gives a 15 cent gift card? I ask you.

Probably Dr. X.

The Grinch is much skinnier -- and nicer --
than Dr. X, whose heart has not grown to the size of
a real human being's.

Amazon also has an app now that allows you to put items from other sites on your Amazon wish list. If any of you would like to give me a present from my wish list, all you have to do is use the wish list search box and put in my email address, which is dumpedfirstwife@gmail.com, and you'll see what I want for Christmas.

Knock yourself out shoppin' for me. You'd better believe I'll say thank you.

Now, tell me, please, about your shopping habits:

How much Christmas shopping do you do online and how much do you do in person? Or, do you simply say "the hell with it"?

I really wanna know what you're up to. And I hope you had a nice Thanksgiving. I did. I sat on the deck and read a book and then Elvis Aaron Schwarz came by and I heated up some turkey and veggies that had been delivered by the Schwan's man, Craig. Craig is my Schwan's man. If you want to order from Schwan's at schwans.com, then you'll get your own Schwan's man for Christmas.

And I hope your Schwan's man looks like Elvis Aaron Schwarz.

I want Elvis Aaron Schwarz for Christmas. Oh, hell yes.

Infinities of love,

Janie Junebug

Please note that nobody paid me nothin' to say I buy stuff from these businesses. I actually buy from them and really and truly like them.

I wish somebody would pay me, though. If you want to pay me, please let me know.

  1. I worked on Friday, so did no shopping, although I did a little bit today.

I'd say I do about half and half. I like to go to little specialty shops to get cool things for a couple of my girlfriends (we always have Christmas eve brunch together...they're like family to me) and little bits of things here and there. But you can't beat Amazon for niece and nephew presents! (and pet presents, too ;) I haven't ever bought a gift from Groupon, but I've definitely used their restaurant deals!

    1. Aw, that's lovely -- having friends who are family. I love my blogosphere family. We can't get together, but someone might get a Christmas present.

  2. You're hilarious like always! I have done about 0 shopping on black Friday. I loathe the idea of fighting a bunch of morons fro some made in china crap. I do most of my shopping online too, it's so much easier and less stressful. Hey, check out my last post, I made my first vlog. Send my best regards to Elvis Aaron Schwartz :)

    1. I don't think I've ever gone shopping on Black Friday. I'll let Elvis Aaron Schwarz know that a beautiful Italian woman is interested in him. And I'll be over to see your vlog.

  3. I'm glad you had a good Thanksgiving. As for shopping, I do it all in person, which is kinda funny, because I'm pretty sure that when I was born, the 'shopping gene" was left out, or mutated, or something. Thrift store, flea market, and antique store browsing, oh yeah, I like that. Grocery shopping, yeah, I enjoy that, too. (I'm weird.) But traipsing around an overcrowded store in search of the "perfect gift" for everyone? Not so much. Still, I do it, year after year. (And once I FIND that "perfect gift", I'm on top of the world!)

    1. It's really sweet that you'll shop for the perfect gift even though you don't like shopping. My shopping gene has definitely disintegrated. I think I've been in a mall a total of one time in the past year and it was so miserable I'll probably never go back.

  4. No shopping on Black Friday; I was working in the morning and then had family plans in the afternoon. But I did purchase my first Christmas present (I only have to buy for six people so its pretty darn easy the shopping I have to do) Saturday through Wal-Mart online at cyber Monday prices with free delivery. Can't beat that!

Honestly this year I think I'll be doing a lot of online shopping.

I like Schwann's. I used to order a lot from them when we lived elsewhere. So far none have come here where we live now and I haven't ventured out to look for them, but I liked all the things we got from them!

sounds like you had a relaxful Thanksgiving day

    betty

  6. Hi Janie .. thankfully I have little to do and this year will be getting some blogger's books and will do some via the space out there and a little ... probably very little from shops - but I do like supporting the local shops. I'll be getting a few copies of the film Searching for Sugarman - that I posted about earlier this month - something different.

I used to go to the sales in London - but never rushed to be first .. and that was when I was in my late teens - when I was let loose to travel to London with my pocket money and get back safely on the train ... those were the days. I go to London now - and turn round almost before I get there ... just such a pain!!

    Cheers .. Hilary

    1. I think I'd need a squadron of guards around me -- kind of like the Queen (after all, I am the Queen of Grammar) -- to be able to venture into London alone. Or, since I've never been there, I might throw caution to the wind and tell London to watch out cuz here I come! I do think it's nice to support local shops. When I go out to eat, it's usually here in my neighborhood. We also have a jewelry store nearby . . . a dangerous place.

    1. I hope you start to feel the spirit of Christmas. I know it's difficult to start over in a new place. I've done it so many times and it's never gotten easier.

  9. Now that I know it's possible, I might give a $0.15 gift card, not tell the person how much is on it, then delight and giggle when they go to redeem it. My family has all blessedly agreed that we won't exchange gifts and give the gift of a stress-free holiday season.

  12. I'm so glad we don't have black friday over here. Last year we were too poor for gifts but this year we are only slightly less poor so we will be buying the nephews some great inexpensive toys from http://www.melissaanddoug.com which I recently discovered. Usually we do Amazon and even if we decide to buy something through melissaanddoug, we will check Amazon first to make sure we can't get it for a cheaper price through Amazon. And we use the US Amazon so then it can ship directly to our family in the States and we don't have to pay extra to ship from Ireland!

  13. Dear Janie, I do a lot of shopping with Amazon--just bought two cat beds and toner for the Hewlett Packard printer. Also books and CDs. For Christmas I buy many books from Amazon for all the children in my life--great-great nieces and nephews and the children of a friend. However, I also do a fair amount of shopping at Macy's (because of the coupons in the Sunday paper). In addition, I go to Target or K-Mart and buy a number of gift certificates. So my shopping is varied. BUT, I do all of this early because being in crowds for someone as claustrophobic as I am is just too stressful. Peace.

    1. I am a Macy's lover. They have some amazing sales. We don't have a Macy's here in Jacksonville, but Favorite Young Man has taken me to the one in Daytona a few times. I bought some $86 Martha Stewart sheets on clearance for $8. They're so nice. I don't do crowds well. Neither do The Hurricane and Elvis Aaron Schwarz. It's too overwhelming.

  14. I never go out on Black Friday. My daughter begs and begs, but I just can't do it! I went out today, on Black Monday. (I used to cyber buy, but not anymore. I end up spending too much when I do that!)

    1. It's interesting that you spend too much shopping online because I spend too much if I shop in person. I impulse buy if I'm in a store.

  15. I.LOVE.AMAZON!!!! Favorite place to shop...especially since I get the Amazon Prime for my Kindle Fire and most items ship free...and in two days! Yay me! I do most of my holiday and gift shopping on-line these days. Hope you had a fantastic Thanksgiving. I'm slow on catching up on blogs, so I hope to read more of yours in the next day or so.

  16. I'm getting into the Amazon shopping spirit, however, I like going to stores in the hustle and bustle of everything holiday and make a purchase.

Thanks for all the information you provided.
